Additional Comments |
Dr. Carey is a nice person and is available outside class. However, she isn't a great teacher. She did not seem well prepared for most classes and had difficulty answering some of the questions raised by students.
Although not required, it did help to attend class and take notes. However, it was necessary to read the textbook. The three exams consisted of multiple choice questions and some math problems. The questions came primarily from the textbook publisher and some were not covered in the lectures. Dr. Carey did make it clear before the tests that we were responsible for all material whether covered in class or not. There were also homework assignments that consisted of a few problems from the text. She offered some extra credit opportunities on the exams. Graduate students had to write a paper and present it to the class to get graduate credit.
If you were willing to do some work on your own, especially reading the textbook, the class wasn't too bad. Unlike some classes and professors, you couldn't get the majority of the course by just attending the lectures. Although not a terrible experience, I would choose a different professor before taking another of Dr. Carey's courses.
