Dr. Weigel is awesome, however, he is extremely demanding and this is probably the toughest course I've taken at Western. He does not take attendance, but if you miss a lot of classes, there is no way you can pass this class. There are readings which need to be done before every class which usually range from 40-50 pages each night. He gives a lot of quizzes to make sure that students are keeping up with them as well. There are a ridiculous amount of notes too. I usually took about 5/6 pages each class. Tests are essay and are very tough! He expects you to know EVERYTHING and he gives you absolutely no hints as to what could possibly be on the tests, so to have any chance of making a good grade on the exams, you have to study all of your notes. There were 3 papers in the class as well, the first two were short, only 3-4 pages, and the last one is a 10-12 pg. paper over a Roman author where you have to tell what his writings say about Roman culture, thoughts/beliefs, etc. I liked this course a lot because I was interested in the material, but it is very difficult! Dr. Weigel is really nice, but he demands the absolute best in all of his students, so be prepared to work!
