Dr. Raja is great! He really knows what he is talking about and tries to make a few jokes and makes things relatable to your everyday life. The first 2 weeks I couldnt understand a word he said, but after a little adjustment and sitting in the front of the room I can now understand everything he says. Dont be afraid to take him because English isnt his first language, because I grew as a person by learning how to understand his accent. The class is easy as long as you do your take home quizzes and homework. A TIP to get in an A in the class... study your homework after he grades it (your test will be pretty much exactly the same problems)

Dr. Raja is a great teacher. Chemistry isn't usually an easy class for anyone but he makes class interesting and really enjoys the subject. If you miss anything or have any problems he will try to help you in any way possible. At first I did not like this class because it was a little overwhelming at first. But after the first test things slowed down and I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. Also if you have an A at the end of the semester you don't have to take the final.

The semester that Raja taught me was his first time at Western. He has previously taught somewhere else but was used to teaching upper level classes. My class did get off to a rough start but Raja helped us all the way through the course. I have never had a teacher that made himself so avaliable and willing to help his students. Not only could meet almost anytime is his office he also had an optional study session every monday night to help you with the chapter from the previous week before he gave us the quiz over that chapter. You are not going to find many professors that will spend that much extra time on you. I did find the first test complicated but it is the same in any class because you don't know what to expect. He also give a homework packet before each test which is almost exactly like the test; the packet is 80% of the test is what he will say but it is even more. Also you get extra credit on the test, usually around 10 pts. You will have a weekly quiz worth 10 pts. but you have a possible of 12 pts. which makes it alot easier. If you can understand the quizzes and the homework you will have absolutly no problem on the test. Don't be afraid to ask questions! If you don't know something don't quit asking until you understand.
No his first language is not english but you can understand what he is saying. You will have to try in this class but it is not impossible.

Rajalingam Dakshinamurthy is hands down the worst teacher I have had here at WKU. Really, you can't even call him a teacher, unless someone reading off of a slide is considered a "teacher." Even though I got a D in the class I could still teach the students the material better than he does. The classes are mandatory but completely worthless because you can't understand a word the man says. He talks way too fast and never works out any of the problems. He expects you to know every detail about each chapter. Granted, it is very important that you learn all the details of a class, but you have to teach yourself all of the material because he is such a sorry "teacher." This class is mandatory for all Ag majors and it really says something that we started off with 60 students but ended up with less than 25! I wouldn't wish this teacher on anyone and Western should truly think about hiring a professor that can actually speak the English language!!
