Although attendance isn't mandatory, you definitely shouldn't miss a class. There is a lot of current events that are discussed or other random things she feels like talking about. These things will show up on the exams, so you don't want to be caught off guard. She also asks a lot of questions from the book, some of which we never went over, so definitely read the chapters before each exam.
Overall, I liked Carey. She is a nice person and wants everyone to succeed. However, she can be confusing when she goes over problems because sometimes it seems like she doesn't even understand them. The class was usually interesting when we were discussing various current events, but when she lectured over the book, it was a downright snoozefest. Painfully boring.
