First of all, Zoology is NOT an easy class. The amount of information is comperable to trying to memorize the textbook. The textbook is automatically billed to your student account on TopNet, but you will never use it, other than for the LearnSmart assignments he assigns throughout the semester. As for Dr. Grubbs, personally I like him. He's a good guy, and I dont know what his stutter has to do with anything... You can still hear him perfectly. He clearly has a passion for what he teaches, and he has a HUGE amount of knowledge on... well... everything. However, the drawback to taking him is that his tests are not easy. They are well made, and they are designed for you to be tested thoroughly. The powerpoints, posted online, are all you will need for the class, and the test comes from them. You will need to know the information well. Personally, I went to half the classes and came out with a B. The lectures didn't help me beacuse he read from the slides. Overall, Ive taken him for 3 classes now, and I have done well and enjoyed all of them.

Dr. Grubbs is the worst professor I have ever had.. I would not recommend him to anyone! He constantly goes off on rants in class about stuff that will never be on the tests. It doesn't matter how long you study for his tests it's impossible to get a A because he puts questions on there that were never covered in notes or in class. I have even memorized all the power point slides and only got a 82 on the exam. Grubbs doesn't prepare you for exams one bit.. nice guy but a terrible teacher..

Dr. Grubbs is a nice guy. Unfortunately he is not a good proffesor, I am an A occasional B student, and studied for every test 2 weeks in advance just to receive a B on them. He puts things on the exam that are not on the notes and I honestly have no idea how to get an A even with the extra credit he gives on exams. If you are wanting an A I would not take him, he is a likeable guy, but that is about it. Oh and if you decide to take notes off of the power points ( I recommend it) they are pretty excessive and he goes into detail about certain things.
Good luck

Dr. Grubbs is a great instructor. He knows his biology extremely well. His powerpoints are all you need don't buy the book. You must study for his exams though. (50 questions on Scantron) I could have studied a bit harder and received an A. He gives Bonus points but are of an obscure topic. Either from some weird comment in class (thus more reason to attend) or from Current events. He is very funny and makes class go by fast. I would highly recommend taking any COURSE that he teaches. I also had him for Biol 122/123 and he expands in more detail from that class. He makes learning Biol fun!!!

Dr. Grubbs is extremely knowledgeable about biology and phylogenics. He tends to talk over your head quite a bit and almost expects you to have a vocabulary as extensive as his. His powerpoints are lengthy and in depth. I took this over winter term and it just about killed me. I made an A but I studied my butt off for it. He promised study guides that never came and the tests covered ALOT of material. The lab was more lecture than anything but the labs we did counted as the cumulative participation grade. Again, the tests were in depth and extensive. All the lecture tests were tough multiple choice and the lab tests were mostly fill n the blank and essay. At the end of the term he was bumping up points every which way I guess because a lot of people had trouble passing.

Grubbs would be a great professor if you were just listing to his wide knowledge of information. But if you have to take exams, he does not prep you for them and the amount of information given (not to mention his periodic off topic info - that WILL be on the exam) is a ton of information to remember!! Like I said he is a great professor that knows a wealth of information just does not know how to prep his students for the exam and assumes everyone has a PhD in the field. Would suggest taking another professor!!

Grubbs actually taught the class during Winter (3 week) semester. VERY HARD!! His quizzes and exams are very difficult and the way he words his questions you are scratching your head to find out what exactly he is wanting. Just beware if Grubbs is teaching the lab you may want to switch to someone else. He does not prep you for the exams and promised to give study guides but never did. Anything discussed in class as well as all the material in the Lab maual is up for grabs on the exams. SO STUDY EVERYTHING!!

Grubbs has PowerPoint but don't be fooled. You need to be there because he talks in class and will go off PowerPoint and the information written on the board will be on the exams. Not a difficult class but you HAVE TO STUDY. He definately knows his subject material, but its hard to figure out what will be on the exam.

Dr. Grubbs makes things way more complicated than they should be. I had taken this lab before and never had to go into as much detail as he did. He gave way too many notes at the beginning of LAB! Labs should be doing things, not note taking. Most of the labs were pretty pointless because he didn't have us turn anything in or do anything really, besides look at a couple of slides. Whenever we did collect data, we never interpreted the results. None of us really understood what we were supposed to be doing most of the time. His quizzes are never on a regular basis and you never knew when you were going to have one. They were all essay/fill in the blank and sometimes over random, unimportant details in the manual that you wouldn't think to study. He also promised us a study guide on our final and never sent it. We all waited on our inboxes the night before and the day of, and it never came. I'm not sure if it was just because he hadn't taught a lab in a very long time or if it was his teaching skills that made it so bad. I haven't had him in lecture but judging by his other reviews, I think it might be his teaching.

On the exam he places extra credit on what he talked about in class, its not on the powerpoints, also he curves the tests. The tests came straight from the powerpoint, study those you can pass easily. You text book isn't really required because he teaches from the powerpoints. Which he posts on blackboard.

Dr. Grubbs did a great job of making the class intresting because the material is rather boring. The test were always 40 multiple choice questions word for word from our notes. There was usually 4 or 5 extra credit questions on each test. He would randomly mention the extra credit information on fridays, when only half the class would come.
There are no other grades besides the test in this class, but he understands that. He always curves the grades so that the average is 75. I believe with the extra credit and curve, I ended up with an 110 in the class.
I would highly recommend taking him!

Grubbs is pretty good. He reads throwing in extra little things that will be on the test. He gets mad when ppl sleep in class so just don't go if your gonna sleep. Ask for extra credit he gave our class a lot of opportunites for it and I def would have got a B but the Xtra Credit allowed me to get an A. Study for the test. REad over the slides and basically memorize them to do well on the test.

Zoology has the potential to be very difficult, mostly because there is so much information that goes into class. This information can be overwhelming, but Grubbs helps with this. He realizes that this course is required for Bio majors, and realizes that 2/3 of the stuff we learn in this class we'll never have to call upon again. Therefore, Grubbs streamlines his lectures and material, cutting away unnecessary crap that he feels you don't need, and teaches you what you need to know. His lectures are compelling enough to keep you awake, usually, and his tests aren't too extremely difficult as long as you actually put forth effort into studying. If you don't, they can come back to bite you. Otherwise, his class is enjoyable and not too difficult.

He is extremely enthusiastic about every class that he takes. He actually makes you think. I'm a biology major and absolutely enjoyed his class. You don't require the textbook except for pictures. His tests are straight from his power point slides on blackboard. But, you have to study enough to get an A in this class. Definitely not very easy. This class is for those who want to enjoy Biology as life itself than as a subject. His impact is so strong that i wanted to visit Burgess Shale Fauna during my vacation! I recommend him.

Grubbs is decent at giving lectures. The problem is, the guy's a complete tool. He makes his tests as hard as he possibly can given the material covered. He seems to try to stump you or trip you up on the tests instead of testing to see if you understand the material. Don't look to him for help either, he won't give it. Also, he conveniently waited until the lecture class was over before grading our lab finals. Do you think its because he made a math mistake writing it and didn't want to have to explain to everybody why their grades were messed up and its his fault. Ugh. I'm just glad this class which I should have enjoyed is over.

This class was extremely boring, but that wasn't Grubbs' fault. He actually loves biology, but even he knows the material is boring. The key to this class was listening to him lecture. He expanded on the notes from PowerPoint, and it was often on the tests. There were four multiple choice tests, and they were not that difficult. The books were a TOTAL waste of money, though--it's more important to listen to what he says. He's an ok teacher overall.

scott grubb's class is sometimes interesting, but there are a lot of notes to take, sometimes 4-5pgs. per class. the notes are on power point, which makes it easier, but he likes to lecture a lot when you take notes and sometimes when taking notes he will change the subject to something irrelevant to the lecture. i didn't use my book, but sometimes he puts things on the tests that are in the book (usually charts and such). the tests are purely multiple choice questions from the lecture, so if you skip class a lot, you are screwed. some questions on the tests may come straight from the lecture and the answers cannot be found in the notes so pay careful attention to what he says. other than that, the class is okay.

Dr. Grubbs is by far one of the if not the best professor I've ever had. He knows his stuff, he's not hesitant to help, and he cares. Yes, there may be lots of notes, but what do you expect when you only have a few months and so much material to learn. The class isn't easy, but it's not difficult either. Just like any other class, if you study, you will do alright. I don't understand why people would evaluate him as a poor teacher, I have never seen or heard evidence of it.

This course is not difficult, but there is a lot of material. Dr. Grubbs is a great person, but is very disorganized in his thinking. His notes jump around A LOT, and he skips from one topic to another and then back again without any clear train of thought. You will need to study, and go to class. He uses power-point, but his notes are not on-line, so you need to write. He will curve the tests if necessary. He is a fair teacher, but you will work in his class. Don't expect an easy A.

He just changed his tests to all multiple choice this year, he may change them back for the spring semester. You learn a lot, and you do not need the book. All of his notes are on the overhead and that is where his test questions will come from. He is an easy to understand teacher, no tricks.

Prof. Grubbs uses PowerPoint to give notes, which is good because you have a chance to write everything down. He really elaborates on the important points, which if you pay attention, tells you what you need to study for tests. His 4 tests are all multiple choice, and usually has an extra-credit question. He really knows what he's talking about and seems more than willing to help out in any way he can. The final is not cumulative.
