The quantity of notes really just depends on you as an individual. I personally took a lot of notes, but not what I'd call overkill. Others might disagree.
The tests are pretty straightforward and so long as you've taken good notes, you should have no problem acing them.
A lot of people complain about her accent, and while sometimes it is a little difficult to understand her, it really isn't that bad. She really loves what she teaches and you can tell! Wonderful class, I really learned a lot.

This class was interesting. Kumi is pretty funny because her english isn't always perfect. Most of the material covered was common sense really. The grade was over 3 tests and 2 papers. Tests aren't too rough because she gives a study guide, everything is on it. The big project is interacting with foreign students and applying theories learned. Not the most exciting class but it was pretty interesting.

Dr. Ishii is from Japan so she can be a little hard to understand. Overall she is very effective though. The downfall of this class is that there are SOO many group projects you will want to scream. It's very hard to meet with groups to get these done and requires a ton of out of class work. I wouldn't recommend taking this for a gen. ed. which is what I did. If you have to take this class Dr. Ishii is great though.

Dr. Ishii is a very nice women. She expects a lot out of you and as the semester goes on it gets pretty intense. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. At first it's really slow and you don't have much to do but then there are events and projects flying from everywhere. She is a reasonable women and the class will be very small so if you all feel like the work load is getting to intense just talk to her in a reasonable manner and she'll try to help you. This class is a lot of work for a lower level class. She will immerse you in cultures.

Dr. Ishii is great. Sometimes she can be hard to understand but she is really sweet and makes the class as interesting as possible. She basically gave us the test as a study guide and made the class really easy to understand. I strongly recommend taking her for this course.

OK... Teachers...please stop writing reviews of your own class. Now that that is out of the way... this class is very easy. In fact, it is a joke. This class is about teaching unfair stereotypes and over generalized concepts that, at times, seem out dated and incorrect. Very sweet lady, but she has no clue whats going on.

Dr. Ishii is one of the sweetest teachers I have ever had. She truly wants you to be involved in communication with internationals. She is enjoyable and you can completely understand her. Just make sure you particpate in class and at least pretend to try hard. This was one of the funniest classes I have ever had.

She is a good teacher and I would reccommend her. There are a few projects in this class that are sort of timeconsuming, but it is a class that you come out of knowing that you really learned something.

The material this class covers is very interesting. She is a very sweet lady, open for suggestions, and always willing to help. But the material is basically common sense and I never studied or did homework. There are a couple of short papers to write that are mostly personal opinion, and if I recall the final is submitting a paper. I did always show up for class because participation counts. I learned alot and it was fun. Take this instructor!

Kumi Ishi is terrible. fist of all she is terrible with english and it is very hard to understand her and she penalizes you for not participating in class even though you dont understand her. 2nd her grading is so stupid. She only has 100 total points in the entire class. 3 tests worth 20 points, a final project worth 10 and some partcipation and a film analysis. i didnt get any lower than a 16 on the tests and i got a C in the class. If you are trying to get a A or B then dont take her because her grading is so stupid.

This is an enlightening and helpful course. Dr. Ishii is kind, helpful and fair, and beyond attending class and looking over notes for exams (which aren't difficult), little is required to do well in the course.

Class was mainly taught by those taking it. There is a ton of reading, and a few papers. Didn't really get much out of it, but the projects were pretty interesting.

Dr. Ishii is actually a very good teacher for this course. She brings a ton of knowledge from her personal life to the table when teaching the class. She is from Japan and so she connects a lot of her past experiences with the course. The course does require two papers and three exams, but nothing you can't handle. Dr. Ishii seems like a very caring individual that enjoys being in America and teaching at Western. Take her class and study a few days before the exams and you will do fine. By the way, there is no problem with understanding Dr. Ishii once the class has met a couple sessions. She speaks slow and clearly. Good luck.
