While Dr. Likes had great knowledge of the subject, this did not hide the fact that he is a major tool.

I'm strangely motivated, but I truly believe that Dr. Likes is a great teacher. The assigments were a breeze, as long as you didn't put them off till the last minute. He gives you the basic layout of the class the 1st day. He's experienced, and even has the anchor moustache.

First off, never EVER miss one of his classes. It clearly states on his syllabus that if you miss one class without an excuse, two points are deducted off of your final grade. Never miss class on Fridays, even if you have an excuse, because he WONT let you make up any of his weekly "current events" quizzes. No matter what the excuse.
He's very pompous, and full of himself. He had a bad habit of choose favorties, and enjoyed flirting with his female students. I mean come on...what girl wants to be taught by a professor who was recently caught up for sleeping with a 365 student? Let's be serious. That's the reason he's no longer head of the journalism department. Save yourself, and save your virginity.

Terry is a nice guy and he knows a lot about what he does, however when the time comes for you to take this class and you don't knwo anything about the avid-find a buddy who does...or work it out together. I'm telling you, you need to go in the lab and mess around b/c you don't learn how to use hardly any of it in class. Everyone else knows how to use the cameras and avid if they're involved in the newscast, but if you don't then you have to teach yourself. I did enjoy Terry and this class--it's time consuming so be aware!

I don't see what everyone else is talking about. Maybe it was because I took him for a Winter Term class that I saw a different teacher. Dr. Likes was very helpful when asked, and presented himself to generally care and answered all of my questions very thoroughly and timely. The only reason I didn't recieve an A is because I jacked around and didn't study for the final and waited till the last minute to do the final assignment.

Okay...Where to start...
...If you are completely in love with Broadcasting or Dr. Likes, you will enjoy this class. I personally couldn't be happier the class is over. After taking his class I dropped the major completely and switched to somthing else. It is not only Dr. Likes, but everyone in the BCOM department thinks they are the only people on campus, and they don't understand we are students who can't participate on the Newscast or radio station 24/7. WE HAVE OTHER CLASSES AND ABLIGATIONS! Dr. Likes constantly told our class that "if you don't completely love broadcasting you should get out." He also tried to tell us that we weren't students, and he treated us like we were his employees. This was not a fun class to take, and most people I know agree. (With a few exceptions --females who would flirt with him seem to do fine. Hmm...interesting...?) I managed to get a B in his class, but for the entire semester you feel like you are going to fail...Or quit. The class doesn't make you feel like you accomplished anything, and some of his comments just make you feel like your hard work was worthless. It was difficult to ask him questions about our work or projects, and he would just look at you and say "you should already know how to do that." We would go over something once, and then he would expect us to know exactly how to do it. I don't feel like this class was good at all. I hope this review helps...and I hope you have a better experience in his class than the rest of us.

This was a very difficult class. Terry talks alot about his life and doesn't care about any students unless you flirt with him. I have lost all respect for him. He only thinks about himself and what his wife and him have accomplish. He wont even set done and help you with anything. Some students had to go to other professors to get help and improve on what was marked wrong by him. He says he doesn't have time to help. Now, if broadcasting is the only thing you have time for and you don't have a life or other classes then don't expect him to help you. Their were students in the class that kissed up and flerted with him and got A's and even though I tried extremely hard and didn't fliert I got a lower grade. I'm just trying to prepare you for this uncaring man who only thinks about himself, because I know you will have to have him. If you have to take him, do your best thats all you can do, because he dosen't care, he expects everyone to be robots for broadcasting...and its impossible to be good enough for him. But, in reality hes only a teacher and there are other people in the world who want us to succedd and help us improve. So don't let him get you down.

This class is required so get over it. You're going to have to kiss up in real life anyway so this is just good practice. I don't really remember what I learned specifically because it's been beaten into since the first step into the broadcast program. The wording on the tests are tricky. I did enjoy my radio shifts however.

I hated this class. It was hell to sit though. First of all, he loves to talk about his "adventures in broadcasting". It is pure hell to anybody who doesn't love to kiss a** . The only reason that I got an A was because he tecnically couldn't give me anything else...I know how to write. Beware, the non-roadie. If you don't "love love love" broadcasting, then this is not the class for you. I know its required, but good god. Field trips are taken to various places such as 93.3 and Insight. Lots of videos are watched on commercials and the "history of broadcasting". Don't get the book if you have a friend in the class. Some exercises are done out of it, but the majority of class work is assignments that he pulled out of his butt. He grades kind of harshly, but if you can really write, you should get through. Bring a game boy and sit in the back of class. All he talks about is himself and his "lovely" wife as well as his former students (he credits himself for their success) and his connections in the "business". Good luck.

Nobody loves Terry Likes as much as himself! This class is bogus. Here's the deal... if you think the only two cities in the nation are Louisville and Indianapolis, you will do fine. That's all he talks about. It's a broadcast news class and he rarely mentions New York or Chicago... what the hell?! I would have changed my major after this class but I was too close to graduation... screw it!
