Attendance is mandatory, but it is a public speaking class, so attendance is probably going to be mandatory in all of them. She has a good way of putting people's minds at ease. I was super super anxious about having to take a public speaking class and she makes it relaxed and fun. She gives plenty of prep time before the 1st speech. And she does some activities to get you more comfortable with the class before you have to give a speech. There are 3 speeches, but the 3rd one you do with a team instead of on your own. And the first 2 are 4-6 minutes. She lets you pick your topics. As long as you come to class, have an open mind, and are willing to participate, you'll do fine.

I was so scared to take public speaking and did NOT want to talk in front of the class. She makes it so relaxing and you dont think anything of it. She's extremely nice, always answers questions clearly and in a timeful manner. If I had to take another public speaking class I'd DEF take her again!! Really enjoyed her class.

I liked mcclanahan! good professor and makes speech class as easy as she can for students. you only have 3 speeches, on topics of ur choice relating to business. she's understanding in that people are nervous so she doesn't grade to harsh. I really liked her and would recommend her to anyone that is nervous about public speaking. I was terrified to even walk into the room on the first day of class, but it's really not at all bad. There are two exams multiple choice, one being the final. and she does post a study guide

I love her! She is so sweet! It is basically just her giving powerpoint notes the whole time. She puts them online before hand so you dont have to write them all down. The tests are basically common sense. You give three speeches throughout the semester. Don't just read from the notecards, and just try to be relaxed giving your speech. Make sure it fits the time requirements and it'll be a high grade.

McClanahan is a wonderful teacher who makes taking a public speaking class so much easier than I imagined it would be. She posts all the powerpoints prior to class, and the tests come almost straight from the powerpoints. She offers great, detailed feedback for each speech to help improve on the next one. If given the option, take Mrs. McClanahan. She is wonderful!

This class is pretty easy. She is passionate about her subject which makes the class much easier. We only had to give 3 speeches and i got A's or B's on all of them. Obey her rules for dress code on speech day and other little rules she has. The tests are easy if you pay attention in class and read over your notes before the test. This is definately a good teacher to take. Oh and the notes are online.

Professor McClanahan is by far the most caring professor I've had and ever will have! She goes out of her way to make sure that everyone is successful in her class. No matter how nervous you are speaking in front of a group of people, she will make you feel comfortable. She gets to know each student well and really invests time and attention to every single one that walks into the classroom. Her tests are not difficult and she tells you exactly what she is looking for in your speeches when grading them. She is sweet and funny, but also is very professional. Professor McClanahan understands that we are college students with busy schedules and she works with you. She quickly gains respect from everyone that has her in class. This class is so enjoyable and I learned so much and I know it was because I had such an amazing professor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't take McClanahan for Comm 161, you're crazy!!!!!!!!!!!

She is a great teacher and very personable. All of her lectures are on PowerPoint and she puts it online if you like to print it off before class. She does count attendance points, so don't use the online PowerPoints as an excuse to skip class.
You will only be required to give 2 speeches (one informative and one persuasive) and one group project.
The class is easy and reminiscent of high school. If you did well then, this class will be a breeze

Overall an easy class. You must give 2 speeches, one group presentation. Their are 2 tests and a final which is not Cumulative, test are multiple choice and some fill in the blank. Teacher puts all notes on power points which are available on blackboard. Attendance is required and you can only have 3 unexcused absences. Some of the speeches I felt like McClanahan graded more on whom she liked more in the class then on the content and quality of the speech.

I dreaded this class for a long time, however it was actually my favorite class this semester. Prof. McClanahan just graduated so she knows how much work students are doing in all their other classes and that public speaking is not their number one priority, so she makes the class very easy. I thought she graded somewhat picky on our speeches (I got counted off for not looking at every single person in the room). She cancelled class six times and if we were happy with our grades, we could skip the final (she was pregnant at the time so that might have had some reason for her being so nice and cancelling class so often). All the notes are on blackboard, so you never have to take any. She gives you the test questions almost exactly the day before the final and extra credit if you participate that day and give her the answers from your notes. She makes this class very very easy and takes all pressure away for your speech. Awesome professor!!

There is not many individual speeches, so that is a plus. There is one group speech that is easy if you get good group members. The test are extremly easy if you listen to the review she does the day before the test. I passed easily with an A and I played games with my computer EVERYDAY. She critiques your speech thouroughly so make sure u prepare. And about notes, they are all on blackboard so you dont have to take any.

Mrs. McClanahan was an excellent teacher. She was always prepared for class and had her power points available on Blackboard to print out. She prepared the class very well for speeches, and never graded too hard on them. Her tests do involve some short answer questions, but they come straight from her power points. Very effective class, bc she makes everyone so comfortable with eachother.

I really enjoyed her as a teacher. She is very helpful and a lot of fun! I learned a lot about my speaking ability and i really liked the class. She grades very fairly and gives GREAT extra credit opportunities. Don't let the test trick you though, you have to study for them and some of the questions come from the book, that she DOESN'T go over. I messed up on my first test beucase i didn't study enough, but over all it is a pretty good class and i would recommend her!!!

I loved Mrs. McClanahan! She really was one of the nicest professors I had my first year in college. Her class wasn't hard, she wasnt too strict and she made BP Speaking fun. Her tests werent too hard, in fact she would post the notes on Blackboard so you could print them out. All you would have to do is come to class and at least listen to her speak at first, then you could go back to your computer and print off the notes and study for the tests, which were never that hard. You only have to give 2 speeches, one informational and the other persuasive, and then at the end of the semester you got into small groups and gave a presentation on just about anything you wanted. It was that easy, and if you have or take her for a class then you have nothing to worry about!

She gets really strict about the presentations, but those really aren't that hard. If you participate in class, it's a LOT easier, and she gives extra-credit reviews before each test.

Not only did we have a good time in class with Ms. McClanahan b/c she makes it fun, but she is very effective as a teacher. This class was not bad. I had a lot of anxiety about this course going in because I really don't like speaking in front of people. Theres only about 20 other students in the class and you get to know them well so it takes away from the anxiety. We had to do an informative and persuasive speech on our own and then a group business presentation at the end of the semester. She gives really good powerpoints that are available online so you don't have to take notes and you can just listen. She is a really nice and caring person and i really enjoyed this class.

Miss McClanahan is a part-time professor. She is just like the students, always joking around and having fun. She let's you skip out on the final if you are happy with your grades on the other 2 tests. You only have 3 speeches. She makes easy powerpoints for all the chapters. You don't even need the book. The tests are a piece of cake and common sense. I had her night class that was meant to be 3 hours, and we always finished in about 1 hour.
