This guy's very into his subject- and it shows when he lectures, because, make no mistake, this is a LECTURE course, but his enthusiasm for the curriculum makes it easier to pay attention than it would usually be. I found that if you take decent notes, then you'll rarely have to refer to the text (except for hw assignments). If you write three lines on one event or person, then it's important and probably on the test. The tests are essay, but you can pick and choose which question you'd like to answer most of the time.
The guy's pretty funny.

Taught the class like it was a much higher level course. Reading assignments were ridiculously long for each week. Mid-term and final consisted of short answer (half a page) and essays (over one page).
