I hate public speaking but this class was fun. I feel like I improved greatly on my public speaking skills throughout the semester. Professor Gish comes up with fun cheesy ways to help you out but it works! Class is always pretty interesting and I had no trouble going first thing in the morning. Every class you miss is 2 pts taken off your total attendance grade out of 60 points. She does give extra credit if attendance is low. 4 speeches total including a group speech. She doesn't grade too hard either and understands not everyone is a great public speaker. I highly recommend her for your speech credit! You will get better even if you hate public speaking like me!

Gish is awesome! She explains everything into great detail, so you know what your doing. We had threespeeches plus a group speech. Grading is not harsh, as long as you improve you will be fine. Take her!

For anyone who needs COMM 161, take Mrs. Gish! This class was easy, every now and then the work would pile up a little bit, but I enjoyed her and the class so much, it really did not bother me. Mrs. Gish is super nice, and it almost kind of motherly in a way. She is very fair in her grading and always made sure we were always informed on what was happending in class. Also things were always graded in a timly manner. For the class, we had a few homework and in class assingments, but they were always easy and never took more than a few minutes. In class, most days are lectures with powerpoint. These notes are helpful and are about up coming presentations or tests. We also hadd one multiple choice exam in the semester, plus the final (which isn't really a test and it kind of a surprise, so i'll let you wait and see what it is). The big thing in this class is presentations. You have 2 individual presentations, and informative and presuasive and 1 group presentation that is a mixure of informative and presuasive. This class was great and I would recommend it to anyone!

Taking my first semester in college as a freshman I was very worried that I would get overloaded with homework and have really hard classes. Mrs. Gish is very fun and entertaining as a teacher. There is little to no homework besides the speeches. She gives 3 speeches and one group presentation. All the speeches have to be a business related topic, but it is fairly easy. Overall my favorite class so far and I would recommend her to anyone. Unless you completely don't listen to her or do the speech preparation then you should receive an A.

Mrs. Gish is an AWESOME professor. COMM 161 shouldn't be a hard class and she makes it so. For the semester I had her (Fall 2011) she gave two exams, the first is about five weeks in or so (and its easy, straight of her notes and a little from the book) and the second is the final. Then we had three big speeches. The first two are by yourself and the last is a big group project you end up presenting. The speeches are just a little time consuming the write and practice, but in the end its worth it. We had maybe 3 random homework assingments, but they took maybe five minutes to do. In the end she is great and I would recommend her to anyone who wants to get public speaking over with and get and easy 'A'!

Mrs. Gish is a great teacher! She tries to make things interesting and is fair when grading the speeches. You only have to give 3 individual speeches (a short get to know you speech, a informative, and a persuasive). You also have to do a group speech, and you only have 2 tests the whole semester. TAKE THIS CLASS

Professor Gish is really annoying. I would advise any student who wants to have an enjoyable public speaking course DO NOT TAKE HER. She appears to have little of a life seeing that she always talks forever in class. Even on the day of our final exam she talked for 15 minutes cutting into our time. She expects you to be excellent at public speaking even if you are a shy person. She offers no extra credit and does not reapply to emails.

Mrs. Gish's class uses the book only the first 2-3 weeks, so I wouldn't recommend getting it. There are only two (maybe 3) tests given, and they are in the first few weeks, straight from the notes. Powerpoints are on blackboard. 3 speeches are required, she grades very nicely. As long as you improve on each speech you will be fine. The final is an outline, very simple. She is very nice and funny, would recommend her to anyone!

I LOVED Mrs. Gish!! She's so sweet, but she's not a pushover. You only have 3 presentations total...the first being informative, 2nd persuasive, then a group persuasive speech. She takes attendance every class. We didn't use the book very often, but it came in useful when writing speeches. There are only 2 tests, and they are super easy. I made a 98 on the first. TAKE GISH!

Mrs. Gish is a wonderful instructor, you are lucky if you have this class! This may be her last year teaching this class, which saddens myself. Her class was very well put together, she always had a smile awaiting you every class. Make sure to either print out or write down the ppt's that she uses in class and to look at the pictures in the txtbook! Those are on the tests! If you are not comfy with public speaking....you will be by the time you are done with her class! She makes learning fun and interesting.

Mrs. Gish is an extremely nice woman. She is very helpful and even cancelled the Communications Theorem paper at the end of the semester. You have 3 speeches which she is very leanent on and 3 exams. Attendance is taken, and she usually let us out of class 15-25 minutes early. I would recommend her to anybody who wants to get this class out of the way.

Mrs. Gish is a tough grader and on speeches she takes off for stupid things. She assigns alot and doesn't care. She acts nice but is really picky on everything. She will give 5 pop quizzes throughout the semester. I have heard their are better teachers. I would suggest someone else.

This class is awesome. Definitely my favorite class so far in college. Dr. Gish is an incredible teacher and she makes class a lot of fun. You learn so much in her class about speaking and she creates a comfortable atmosphere so you aren't afraid to give speeches. She can grade a little difficult but as long as you are making a good effort, coming to class, and paying attention, you should get an A. If I could take this class again I would.

I gave her a sad face because i was tired of all the green. she's one badass teacher. Your lucky if you get this class before it fills up. Most people hate public speaking more than anything, but she purposely gives a bunch of group activities to get you to know your class and you feel like you would be giving a speech to your mom and dad when you have to give a presentation. Great Teacher!

Mrs. Gish is the best teacher in the dept. If you need to take a public speaking course, by all means, take her! She is not only nice and helpful. but will work with you until you understand what you need to. By the way, you only have to do three speaches instead of about six like you do in regular public speaking courses (informative, persuasive, and group). This class is a breeze.

You only give two presentations by yourself. The third is a group presentation. I loved my group and I had a great time. The exams (3) are easy. The third exam is your final exam and covers only about 4 chapters... Mrs. Gish is easy, nice, and enjoys what she does. I truly recommend her as an instructor. :D

Mrs. Gish is a great instructor! She was my favorite instructor this semester, and her class was my favorite class. You can tell that she really cares about the students and is passionate about teaching. Her goal is to make you feel more relaxed about public speaking, and I can personally say she achieved that goal. Communication 145 or 161 is a gen. ed requirement. Take Comm 161 under Mrs. Gish! You'll be glad you did!

Ms. Gish was a good teacher. She tells you what is expected of you. On speeches and group projects she does not grade harsh and it is very easy to get an A in her class. Notes are easy to take and she gives examples. The only work that has to be done in this class is two speeches and preparation for a group speech. Overall she was a good teacher and easy.

As far as public speaking classes go, I doubt there is a better one. Mrs. Gish is an absolute joy to be around. She's happy, energetic, and you can tell she really cares about you. I got to know everyone in that class in some way and it made the class so much more fun. The presentation aren't strictly graded as long as you include the simple things she is looking for. She really tries to make you more comfortable with speaking in front of others. The group projects are a blast because of the creativity involved in them. AND, if you have an A at the end of the semester you don't have to take the final.

This was by far the best class I took this semester, and I credit that to Stacey. She was a good teacher, and very generous. The tests were very easy, and everything is very simple to understand. There are three presentations that must be delivered, 2 in which you fly solo, and one with a group. She grades the presentations very leniently. It would be almost impossible to fail this course. Also, she makes everyone in class get to know eachother, so you are that much less nervous about presenting. Its a good, fun, easy class that I would be very happy to suggest to anyone.
