This is the best Spanish teacher ever. I really recommend him to everybody. I enjoyed his class a lot.
Some issues in the class just because the majority of students is from Kentucky. A bunch of Rednecks and country girls have trouble speaking their own language therefore they do not have any clue how to pronounce any other language. They get mad at the teacher because they cannot even pass a goofy quiz whatsoever.
Wonderful class!

He really wants you to learn Spanish. He tries to break it down where you can understand it. He does everything he can so you will succeed. He is an extremely nice guy and good teacher. He likes to engage the class in Spanish conversation. His quizzes and tests are all online in class and are kind of difficult. You also have homework on myspanishlab.com but it isn't hard and you have as many attempts as you want. Overall it is very little studying or out of class work.

I had a Summer class for 3 weeks from 8:00 to 11:15..the worst part was he wanted you to talk alot in class. the exams were posted on blackboard for you to take at home..the homework was on myspanishlab.com and you get as many attempts as you want so you can always get a 100. I kind of put off taking Spanish but with this teacher it really wasnt that bad going to class was the hardest part. The quizzes were in class in the computer lab but you knew you were going to take them with plenty of notice. There was extra credit available too..after class we went to eat at a mexican resturant and ordered in Spanish hes pretty laid back and wants his students to do well.

This is class was very easy. You literally have no homework or anything. You just come to class and listen to him talk but he is very entertaining and funny. I loved this class. The tests are pretty simple as long as you look over the material (which is like 5 pages of material a time). We had 2 quizzes and 2 tests, one being the final. I HIGHLY recommend this teacher.

Mr. Maestre's class was pretty dang hard and I didn't learn anything but if your just trying to get the credit out of the way take him. Trust me the tests and quizes are incredibly hard but one I used a partner and the other I got caught cheating but I was allowed to keep on taking the test. I think he sympathises with all his students and gives everybody a 100 on the cultural report which along with doing the homework is the only way I passed the class. I failed two quizes got a D on the midterm and failed the final big time but still passed with a C. So don't stress too much about the class it'll work out in your favor

Mr Maestre is a wonderful teacher. You will learn a great deal of Spanish but if you are a student shopping for courses do not take him. You will need to study hard to make a decent grade. You will not get an easy grade just for being in class everyday. He is fair with everybody regardless of what other students say. HE IS NOT EASY TALK INTO THINGS. He just give everyone equal opportunities to improve his grades BUT YOU NEED TO DO A LOT WORK in his class.
I highly recommend Mr. Maestre.

Mr. Maestre is a wonderful teacher. He is very good at teaching. The majority of students just want to get an easy A. They just complain about everything. They do not like to do homework. They do not like to take quizzes etc. They just want to get participation points because they show up for class everyday and extra credit for attending lectures , conferences or campus activities. You don't get anything out those things . You will need to study hard and you will get a decent grade. He will help you regardless of what people say. If you really want to learn Spanish take Mr Maestre. You will learn a lot of stuff.
I highly recommend Mr. Maestre

Maestre is an hilarious teacher and easily talked into things (he let us work with a partner on our final) :) He mainly talks in Spanish but he's very good about talking slowly so his students are able to understand. He makes everyone repeat back to him in Spanish and that was a great way to help us learn. All his tests and homework are online. He is great to take for Spanish...even if you don't remember much from high school!

I would take his class...espically if you are not good at speaking spanish at all.

Mr Maestre is the best Spanish teacher I ever had. Contrary to what other students say he has a very good command of the English language. He is not a native speaker of English but he can communicate in English with people very well. He is so passionate about teaching. He explains everything so that every single student understands. He does not continue until he is sure that everybody got it. He help his students to get a good grade. His quizzes and tests are well constructed. Anybody can answer them without any problem. He treats everybody with respect and he is fair with everybody. He is willing to help anytime you need him. Some students do not like to do work in class or take test or quizzes. They just want and easy A. Most of them take foreign language class because they need 3 credits for Gen Ed, That's all.
They do not know the importance of learning a foreign language. They believe that the ONLY language spoken in the world is English. They do not even know that there are more people out there that speak a difference language. On the other hand the majority of the class just wanted him to give extra credit. He gave us a lot of opportunities to get a good grade but they just wanted to get one without making any effort. He helps students but you have to work in class and do your work. Overall Mr. Maestre is an asset to the university.. I wish I had many teachers like him in the future.
Thanks Mr. Maestre for a very enjoyable and fun class!

This class was difficult for me because I haven't had spanish in over 2 years. All of his tests and quizzes are on the computer, the very first week there he gives a HUGE review quiz, which i failed! He doesn't give you enough time to refresh your memory. I hardly studied and still got a B. You have two tests, your midterm and final and chapter quizzes. You have to do this online Spanish Homework called Quia. At the end of the semester you have to do a presentation, which he grades easily.

If you are wanting the easiest professor for spanish, Eder is definitely the man to take.
All of the quizzes, tests, and homework is ALL done online.
The quizzes and tests are done in the computer lab.
And they are all pretty easy.
There is a final project you have to do with a project at the end of the semester over a spanish speaking country. He gave every single person in the class a 100% on the project. Which boosted most everyone's grade to an A.
If you just need a class to fill a Gen-Ed requirement, take this one.
He is a really cute man, he sings and dances in class. He is so funny. :)))

I loved this class. Maestre is amazing! He is from Columbia, he has an accent, but it is pretty easy to understand him. The book is necessary, and you have to register on the quia.com website, which is a big quiz website. It is difficult at first, the website is completely in spanish, and you are allowed to retake the test if needed (he only takes the highest score). Mid way in the class you start watching Sol y Viento, which coincides with the book. Sol y Viento is a spanish soap opera, he makes you watch it, then sometimes he hands you a worksheet about the episode you watched. Sol y Viento is boring at first, but it gets interesting. There are only 2 tests (mid-term and final), and in between you take quizzes. At the end of the semester he assigns you a project you must do with a partner. It is worth 40% of your grade. He gives you a spanish speaking country, and you and your parttner make a powerpoint presentation about the country. You have to speak in spanish, but you can have your information on the powerpoint ( you can just read it off of it). He grades pretty easy on it. Over all, his class was awesome! I was told to take his for spanish, and I'm glad I did!

Professor Maestre was great. He was really funny and would help you undrstand what he was trying to say by using gestures. The quizzes were really hard, and I never scored well, but his class is weighted, so even though you do bad on the quizzes, you can still get a good grade. You have to do a presentation that is 20% of your grade, but he gave almost everybody a 100 in our class. He truly wants to help and he really cares. I HIGHLY reccommend him!

He is a VERY nice man, but he cannot teach. We actually had to correct him quite a bit throughout the semester. If you are putting forth an effort and develop a relationship w/ him, he will really help you out. I thought I was going to get an "A", but somehow I ended up with a "B". Disappointed, but oh well. He definitely goes the extra mile to help his students and wants them to do very well. He is hard to understand at times, but for the most pasrt is ok. The power point presentation is an easy "A"!!!

He is really patient with his students which speaks wonders when learning a new language. He also gives you plenty opportunities to do well in his class other than the exams and quizzes. Go to class, study hard for the exams and quizzes and take your project seriously and the class should be no trouble. Talk to him if you have any questions, he wants to help you. Great class and teacher!

I really don't like giving poor evaluations, but I really didn't have a choice where maestre is concerned. I'm not saying that maestre is the devil or anything. He's a nice guy. He just CAN'T TEACH!!! He doesn't know english very well, so if you need to ask him a question in english, he can't understand you or give you an answer back. Even when he can understand you, he doesn't listen! On the final, the grade that could have either made or broken my grade, he put questions about things we hadn't covered. When the entire class tried to point this out to him, he refused to believe that he was wrong and left the material on there. He even told us not to get angry about it, like we were stupid or something! Luckily, I had studied everything else really well in the textbook (not his notes...they're useless) and was able to get a good grade on the final. Personally, I wouldn't take this professor...that's just my opinion though.

This course is extremely easy, but Sr. Maestre is a terrible teacher. He does not speak English very well and he does not know what he's talking about most of the time. You will probably miss a few questions on his tests because he doesn't know how to write the english portion of the questions he is asking. There is a power point presentation you have to complete at the end of the semester, but don't worry it's a joke. If you know how to work power point, you'll be fine.

Quia is kind of redundant but it is helpful. You must buy Quia seperately or it comes with the book. It does count for a grade! There are only 2 tests so it's wise to do good on quizzes and quia. I swear this man used to be in theatre as a mime. He would be a great partner in charades. I honestly learned nothing in this class, but I had fun in the process. He is funny, and if you're a girl, laugh at his jokes. He likes the attention and in the end will give you a shit ton of extra credit points. He makes you read stupid conversations with people in front of the class...but instead of using it as a constructive teaching method, I think he just enjoys watching really country people try to speak spanish. If you're in this class for the credit, take him. If you actually want to learn something, take someone else. I liked him alot as a person, but now that I think about it, I can't say anything more in spanish than I could the first day of class.

Senior Maestre is a very funny guy... for a 4 yr. old. He dances around in class, makes noises that are neither english nor spanish, and loves to watch the girls laugh.
With mandatory attendance I dreaded going to this class with as easy as it was. Everyday it was the same thing. You are greeted and asked of your current mood at the beginning of class, he writes the date on the board, and then continues to go over material in spanish only hardley ever returning to the board.
I understand that the more you are exposed to the language- you are likely to pick up on it faster and easier. However with no english basis to go off of it's hard to pick out certain spanish words in his sentances that are blurted out a thousand words a second. I found it very difficult remembering what Mr. Maestre went over in class because he rarely wrote on the board or explained in english ( which he knows little of ). The homework that he did give out was not once reviewed over in the next class which means if you did it all wrong, you never knew your mistakes and continued to build off your own incorrectness.
Over six times I asked for extra credit at the end of class and he continuously put me off until the next class period until finally I just assumed he was too busy with his english classes at south campus.
For someone who already has tooken a few spanish classes and knows the language pretty good, I recommend him to be very easy. For those just wanting to get the required credits look elsewhere or you'll find yourself in extra tutoring sessions or trying to learn the language out of a book.
Do not take me the wrong way, he seems to be a very good person but I cannot stress enough how he does not understand how to teach and break the language barrier for people with little to no experience in a foreign study. All semester I was looking for some type of connection. I had bits and pieces of words and rules but never a solid foundation to build off of. Besides a few phrases I got nothing from his class but pages of notes I never looked back at.

This class was centered around the medical field which I and most of my classmates were unaware of. However, Maestre was a good teacher except that the language barrier can become a problem at times. It was not him all the time though. In fact most of the time it was the stupid people in the class that could not keep their mouths shut even when they had no idea what was going on. I would reccommend him if you at least halfway understood Spanish in high school because as a teacher he is an easy grader.
