I loved this class! Mrs. Davis was very helpful and prepared many in-class activities for us. The course was more intense because I took it over winter term, but this did allow me to focus more on the course work. She does assign reading assignments which are helpful, so I do recommend getting a textbook. She does speak in spanish during most of the class but this does help you pick up on spanish faster, so don't let that freak you out the first day. Also, she does have some listening portions on the tests where you have to answer questions in writing that she asks the entire class. She gives you many opportunities to practice your spanish speaking abilities, so by the time you do the interview portion of the final, you'll do fine. You do have to write a few paragraphs in spanish, but there are plenty of resources for you to be able to do this successfully. She is very kind and will help you if you need it, so I don't understand why people say she was mean. If you can't take criticism of the way you speak spanish or don't want to be able to speak spanish any better, then you may want to consider someone else because she will offer corrections over your word choice or how you pronounce things. If you truly want to get better, then she does a wonderful job at telling you what you need to work on. Overall, it was a very enjoyable class with a wonderful professor.

Professor Davis is a very sweet and understanding woman. Attendance is extremely important with her, as it caused my grade to drop from an A to a C. The content is not that difficult either, and even the tricky parts she goes over very well. If you ever need help on anything, go see her during office hours and she will work one-on-one with you until you get it. In the end, I would recommend her to anyone.

Professor Davis is a nice a nice-enough woman and a good teacher. She will teach you the language if you're willing to learn, although towards the end she throws many verb forms at you so its difficult to keep them seperate. I would take Professor Davis again if I had the oppertunity.

Sra. Davis is an incredible teacher who actually knows how to teach! She makes class fun and makes sure everyone understands completely before moving on. She truly cares about her students and works hard to make sure we succeed. I took her as a bi-term so there was a lot of work but thats what a bi-term is. Anyone taking a 200-level class should take her!

She is a great professor! She speaks clearly and makes sure you understand before moving on. She doesn random things to make class interesting and you could only do bad if you did not put effort into the class. I took the bi-term so naturally there is homework every night. I have recommended Sra. Davis to many people, she is a great teacher and is great for 201!

Mrs. Davis is very fluent in spanish and makes the class fun but be prepared to do a lot of outside work. You have homework everynight and assignments that are due every Monday that are very time consuming. I love spanish so this class was fun for me but very stressful at times. The book is definetly needed.

Profesora Davis is the B-E-S-T professor I have ever had in any department! She is really fun (and stages funny, yet real life-applicable situations). She also has a hilarious sense of humor and plays around. She also looks like a twenty-something model, yet she's been teaching at western for over 10 years... you do the math. If you're taking Spanish 201/202, take her as a bi-term.

Her class is challenging, but not too hard. She makes it really fun and is very helpful. You get to work in groups a lot. You have to write a few papers, but they only have to be 1-2 pages and she helps you. You have to pick one activity to do once a week for an hour outside of class that involves Spanish. Most of us played Spanish Scrabble together and we had to take a picture of the board when we were done. It turned out to be really fun and we learned a lot of new vocab. Take her class, she is awesome and you will learn a lot!

Okay, I know that everyone dreads taking Spanish or any other foreign language for that matter. But whatever you do, do NOT take Susann Davis! I was told by numerous people that Davis was the professor to take...boy were they WRONG! Sure, you should take Mrs. Davis is you plan on learning every little detail about the Spanish language in one semester. This woman expects you to know all the details! And she does NOT speak English at all the entire class period. Therefore you can't understand a lot of what she says, so half the time I was busy asking classmates around me what she was talking about. There were 5 tests the whole semester, and the final. Tests are worth 50 points. There are also student engagement activities where you write a paper on a study abroad program and take pictures of spanish influence around the community that you see on a daily basis. Towards the end of the semester, Mrs. Davis seemed like she was lightening up a little and was a little nicer, but there were a few times throughout the semester that I went to her office to ask for help with the homework and she was busy with something or was on the phone and pretty much shut the door in my face. I was extremely relieved with the B that I receieved in the class and I strongly urge you to take another professor if you can. The only people who need to take Susann Davis for Spanish II are the people who are Spanish MAJORS because otherwise you will only understand half the things that come out of her mouth!

Mrs. Davis is an excellent teacher. She is very passionate about her profession. If you are a Spanish major-please take Mrs. Davis from the beginning of your Spanish studies. If you are inexperienced with Spanish at any level-do not take a bi-term. If you do not have a lot of experience with Spanish do not take a bi-term Spanish course. If you feel like you cannot remember much of your high school Spanish-do not take a bi-term course-comprende? One last thing-Mrs. Davis is very charismatic, however, she is a Mrs.

Professor Davis is the best teacher I have had at WKU. She speaks Spanish most of the time. It seems intimidating at first, but it ends up being extremely helpful in helping you learn the language. She's more than willing to translate something if you don't understand it. The tests are easy, and there is one every two weeks or so. If you show up to class and pay attention, there's no reason you shouldn't pass. There is little to no homework. If you have to take a Spanish course, I would definitely recommend Professor Davis- she is an excellent teacher!

I was scared to death to take my general education foreign language credit since I had not had foreign language since sophmore year of high school. I was a nervous wreck when I went to the first class of the semester but Professor Davis quickly put my worries aside. I trusted this site and the recommendations people gave to take her and they are all true!
On the first day she made quite a few people nervous by immediately talking in Spanish and doing so for a good deal of the first hour or so of class. A lot of people looked like they might run out of the door but believe me it gets easier from there on out. I think she does that to give the impression that the class will be ultra-difficult and scare a few people away (which succeeded) so do not give into that and stick with it because the next class she spoke in English as she went over the syllabus and explained the material.
Davis loves to use classroom activities to increase learning and they are very effective. You really get to know your classmates in this course unlike other classes where you go and are surrounded by strangers. This creates a fun environment in the class and also helps put people at ease. During these activities Davis stresses that you speak only in Spanish and she monitors this to ensure people are doing what they are supposed to. She also calls on people in class and makes sure people participate during lessons but she NEVER ridicules anyone if they do not know the language.
You also watch a movie throughout the class called Sol y Viento that follows the textbook. It's corny but provides for some funny moments you can joke about with your classmates.
This class is out of 500 points and the grade breakdown goes by the following: you get 50 points for daily participation (which includes attendance) + doing a community engagement activity such as watching a film and detailing Spanish language in Bowling Green + various written work, 50 points for doing work on this online textbook called Quia (you get two tries to do the questions on there and its impossible not to get 100% if you do them all), 50 points from quizzes with your lowest grade being dropped and she tells you when these will be administered, 250 points from tests (you have 5 and they are worth 50 each), and 100 points for the final (25 of which is an oral exam you do with her in the office with a classmate and 75 is regular format).
To get a good grade in here you need to study the textbook very carefully and PAY ATTENTION to the questions Davis asks you during classtime because I GUARANTEE YOU that you are going to see them on the test. Therefore, if she asks you during a particular unit "Cuando es tu cumpleanos" write it in your notes and practice answering it because it will make the oral part of the tests less stressful. Also, create flashcards to know your verbs and the vocab in the chapter. This will broaden your knowledge base for writing on the tests and also help you when you switch from present verb forms to the preterite and the imperfect.
Professor Davis is a very nice lady and a very effective instructor. I learned more in 15 weeks in this class than I did in taking four semesters of Spanish in high school. She's always there when you need help and she likes to make her class fun because she understands how stressed out some people can be about taking a foreign language. Fair warning though, her class fills up fast (and with good reason).
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you need Spanish 102 for general education credit. One of the best teachers I have ever had.

Mrs. Davis is excellent! She taught us in a way that would make class fun and interesting at the same time. I liked having a bunch of little 50 point exams instead of just 3 or 4 big exams throughout the semester. We watched a Spanish movie throughout the semester and answered questions about it on the exams. You will have to do some of the homework assignments on Quia, it is an online program and she gives you two chances to get a perfect score. I loved this class!

I took Mrs. Davis for Spanish 201 and 202 bi-term, so that made it more difficult, but she is a great teacher. She likes to do lots of class group activities and games and gives out candy a lot. You have lots of busy work, but it's tiny activities that only take a few minutes. You have a mandatory online workbook that you do at your own pace as long as you finish each chapter before that chapter test. She uses the first half of the book for 201 and the second half for 202 so it's only one book that you have to buy. There is a test for every chapter and a final. You learn all the tenses, and some very challenging stuff, but she's really helpful if you ever have questions. We also had to do 1 5-minute presentation with a partner in 201. You also have around 3 compositions that you have to write but they never have to be much longer than 1 page long.

However, this class is a foreign language and she expects you to know your vocab and verb forms (that is an absolute must!!!) well. But, her pop quizes are by far more frustrating than Christipher Reeve trying to do the hocky pokey! And thats not to knock Christipher Reeve b/c i know he passed away.. just her pop quizes make me want to have a nervous breakdown. Her test are "muy bien" though b/c she will give you about a weeks notice and shes really helpful by putting printouts on her web page. And another thing... if you are an "introvert" dont take her class b/c she tryes to get eveyone to participate in class. She keeps attendance/participation points, so just showing up is not enough. When I walked in the first day she didn't speak a word of english the first half of class and I almost completely lost the last vestiges of my mind but after that the class was fairly easy but still fun. There is a lot of busy work involved. She is very helpful and before each test she let the class pick a time for a review session outside of classtime. The test were simple and short and came from the notes she posted on her website. She is enthusiastic about the class and sometimes she had to be in on every conversation anybody was having. This made me think she was trying to relive her youth through her students.

Great professor, really interested in subject. She made the subject seem not so boring. However, her style was difficult to learn the language. She would not tell what something was, you had to figure it out by her pointing, acting it out, or context clues. But on the test you had to know exactly what it was. Spent lots of time looking up words in the back of the book, so I knew EXACTLY what it was, not what I THOUGHT she was acting out or pointing to.

If you have never had Spanish b4 it seems to move fast and you'll have to put some work into it, but if you have any history in Spanish at all, it is breeze, although not everyone in the class thought so.
