I took this course as a web class in the Winter Term and I highly recommend the class and the professor to anyone. The only people that I found that wouldn't have made a good grade in the class are people that don't do the work like they should. She wanted us to have our quizzes from the readings submitted by 10am each day, and our activities done by 6pm, and our discussion boards done by 9pm. I usually did my readings and my quiz the night before so I could sleep in the next day. This is not a hard class at all to at least scrape by with a B in... The final was harder than I thought it would be, but I still got an A in the class and there were 3 extra credit opportunities the whole class, including one opportunity on the final itself.

Okay.. .this course is nothing but reading books written by different cultural writers. There are no test... Just 2 main papers and discussion questions about the book you are reading. Fun class.. you learn a lot about different religions and culture groups. Dr. Olmstead is a cool lady too... pretty laid back about stuff.. but kinda opinionnated. Nice lady though.. Highly recommend.

This course was so difficult. There is a 750-word reading journal due EVERY week, a poem explication due, two 7-page essays due, and full-fledged discussion EVERY class period. You get participation points based on how much you talk in class. You also have to pick two days in the semester to offer discussion questions for the class, then write a 2-3 page response to your own questions to turn in. She is very demanding on her grading scale. It is very hard to keep up, and she doesn't offer a whole lot of flexibility. It felt like a graduate course, really.

This class was very hard. I took it is as a WEB course in the May term and I also worked part time. (Thank goodness not full time!) I did homework when I woke up (to watch the 2 hour lectures and take the quizzes b/f I had to be at work), went to work and still worked on homework (activities and discussion board), then came home and worked on homework again. While struggling to keep an A, but I only managed a B. You will have to wrok extremely hard in this class. Activities take a while to do, but aren't that hard, and the discussion boards are not that difficult. I would not reccomend her!!! Trust me take someone else! This is the only evaluation I have ever written b/c I really reccomend not taking her.

I took this class as a Jan. term so I was expecting tons of work. I work full time and was able to complete my assignments on time. I could tell that Ms. Olmstead put a lot of work into this class and she did a great job. There is a lot of reading, and a daily quiz, but overall it was great to have a class over in two weeks that wasn't that hard. And the final is cumulative, but she gives you a study guide and it's not hard. I would recommend her to anyone.

This is a great class and a great teacher. There is lots of reading, but it is good material. Two big papers that are your mid term and final. She keeps in contact with you if need be. Highly recommend any class she teaches!!

Jane is wonderful! We read about 10 books--some autobiographies, some scholarly stuff, some fiction--all were really pertinent and engaging. The class sat around a table and discussed the readings. Tests are essay, 50% take home and 50% in class. For the in class section, you can bring in your books and 2 pages of notes/outlines. I loved it--I took the class as an experiment--I'm actually working on an MAE in student affairs--and have decided to add on a certificate in women's studies to my degree plan. I HIGHLY recommend her as an instructor.

Jane Olmsted is a caring professor, she understands the material well and expects her students to do the same. Her dry-wit can be hilarious at times. Take Olmsted if you want a genuinely effective professor.
To all "Christians" whining about course material...Get over yourselves, what right do you have to criticize the views of others?

This teacher actually put me down and told me I was stupid for not believing everything that she made us read. If you are a Christian do not take her.

Olmsted is a horrible teacher. She expects to much out of students who are not English majors. Do not take this class.

This teacher will work you to death. Do not take her unless you do not have a life. She also has a terrible attitude toward students.
Added 01/14/2003
