Dr. Petersen was a good teacher. He gears the class towards teachers. The books that are required have lots of articles that you may never use again, but the maps will be of good use if you teach 4th grade or, in my case also, if you have children that have not yet reached the 4th grade. The class was sort of hard, but overall a good class.

He is an asshole. He will base your grade not on how well you did, but how well he likes you. As the other evaluations say, he will post the midterm on the overhead, but the midterm that he actually gives you does not match this! Two people can write the exact same answer for a question, and the one he likes will recieve full credit while the other one will not. Also, Heaven forbid you miss a day of class without waking up 2 hours earlier to get to campus and email him first, that is the one sin that will damn you all to hell.

DR. Petersen sure does like the women. If you are a woman you should be in good shape if you come to class and pay attention and turn all assignments in on time. He will flash all the tests on the overhead but, be quick and wirte it down so you can pass the test if not it will be very difficult. The notes that you get in class are kind of worthless for the class but you could use them in the teaching profession after you graduate. If you are a guy good luck bucause he sure likes the girls. There is a book report that is due as well around 15 pages or more. He gives you other assignments for out of class projects as well.

Dr. Petersen has good days and bad! some days you'll love him and some days you won't. His tests are essay but he'll pretty much give you the questions that will be on the exams. There are only two exams - mid-term and final. he has a tendency to ramble so be prepared... he picks favorites and if he likes you, you'll probably get an A.

Dr. Petersen is a very knowledgeable about the geography and history of Kentucky. Do not get upset about the writing requirment, because it is not that bad. The midterm and final are given to you in class so pay attention. The other assignments use tools that every social studies/elementary educator should be familar with. This is an excellent class... Very informative. If you have the opportunity to have class with

Petersen can be an ass, but it's only to get your butt in gear. Keep up with the research, write the papers, and be on time to get an A for the course.
