If you are looking for a teacher who will grade fairly and reward you for perfect attendance, I suggest you take Combs for ENG 200. I did not have to take the final because I went to every class meeting. There is alot of material and reading to do, but little to no notes needed. Pay attention and read what she wants you to and the class is a breeze. You also watch alot of films after what you already read, and at times that can be boring.. But the papers you write really arent that bad and sometimes she will let you redo them. Overall, she gives you extra points for showing up and I would reccomend her to anyone.

Take Anna Combs!!! She has been one of my favorite professors so far. She kind of a Nazi when it comes to doing reference work but thats about the only difficulty. You will have to give a 5 minute presentation during the last few weeks of class but don't sweat it. Its easy, she dosent pay attention, and nobody else cares. I recommend her for a relativly easy A.

Anna Combs is pretty much a crazy old lady. If you do absolutely EVERYTHING that comes out of her mouth, you should do well in this course. Also, know that she hates our generation and if you argue with her about it she will not like you. She often forgets what she says is due and when she says its due. This course can be frustrating because she forgets what she has told us and sometimes expects things from us that she has not explained. The writing assignments are easy if you do them in the exact format she tells you to do them in... she does not grade on content at all... only format. This class is a lot of work but like I said, if you can tolerate her crazy personality and the fact that she forgets everything, you should do fine if you put in the work and do things the way she tells you too!

This is the worst class I have ever taken, all because of Combs. She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Here are a few examples of what she does.
1. She NEVER follows the syllabus, also she told us to get 4 books and we only use one.
2. She will only give us 20 minutes in class time to write a two page essay.
3. One day in class she gave us a vocabulary quiz with words that we hadn't studied on it. When we told her that she didn't tell us those words she told us to take it anyway.
4. She assigns LOTS of homework then gives you a check mark for doing it, or doesn't even take it up.
She is a horrible professor, she's old and picks favorites. DO NOT TAKE HER.

Professor Combs class is essential, its an easy A. You do a few writing projects over the course of the semester and 1 project and 1 research paper which is your final. You have to do all the assigned papers or otherwise she will fail you. Class attendance is mandatory but for our class that met once a week she rarely kept us there the entire time. Shes gonna make her class seem like the english class from hell, but rest assured its cake. I wrote all my papers an hour before each class and walked out with an A and i know im not that great of a writer.
NOTE: She will choose favorites in her classes so keep that in mind.

At first, I thought Mrs.Comb's class was going to be fun and interesting....and it is, but she is crazy. If you ask a question she will act like you are dumb. She puts you on the spot a lot, and we had to watch the most boring movies. I took a night class and we had a paper due pretty much every night. I would recommend another teacher!!

I absolutely LOVED Mrs. Combs class. She was so hilarious and made the class so much fun. As in all English 300 classes your final is your research paper but she helped every student along the course of the semester to make sure we all did very well. This was by far my favorite class during the semester, I would DEFINATELY recommend her!

This is course was fairly easy for me and others, but only for those who knew most of what she taught already. The biggest problem I think people have is that she is VERY conservative and contradicts a lot of what she says. If you can fight back and defend yourself, she'll like you and you'll probably receive an A so long as you do your work.

I liked this class a lot and found it to be very easy but i did take it during the so too. Teachers are generally more laid back in the summer. You have quizzes over readings that are assigned in class. Other than that the only thing you have to do is write papers. I dont know if i would take her during the semester because I dont know if she would be that laid back. However if you need to finish up that gen ed and wanna take a summer class then take her.

This IS an English 300 course. Its a lot of work, and it is not meant to be easy. It helps when the teacher is actually ORGANIZED though. All of our major writing assignments are crammed into the last month, and she acts like its our fault that she can't plan the semester any better than that. She also assigned a paper 1 week late (on the week it was actually due) and she acted as if though we'd had the entire week to work on it when we didn't have a clue about what she really wanted from the assignment. She also makes the course seem like its the only thing we have to do in the world. English is not the only class I have to worry about. On a brighter note, she is an extremely intelligent person and likes to get to know her students. Take her if you have a serious interest in improving your writing and you don't mind some chaos. She is a very nice person, and I'm sure if she were better in her organizational skills and planning the course would be much more tolerable.

Anna Combs is honestly the worst professors I've had at Western. She doesn't teach the material, then grades harshly over minor details that don't mean anything. She doesn't communicate with her students who have questions, and the classes are boring as she just rambles about whatever comes to mind. I still have no clue what I got on my final paper, which is worth 30% of the final grade, but it obviously wasn't good because I got a C out of nowhere. Stay away from her if possible, for your own sake.

Do not take Combs! This class should not be that difficult. She does not explain anything about the papers, and rips them apart. She fights with students who think differently than her. She is so unorganized and gets off the topic, but still expects you to know exactly what she wants. I do NOT recommend her. There are much better english 300 teachers.

Mrs. Combs is a very nice lady. A little eccentric perhaps but very personable. She certainly speaks her mind and can get on tangents, but she will work with you if you work with her ( and sometimes if you dont). Format is important on papers, but the papers end up not as bad as you might think going into them. One was cancelled at the end. The in-class work is certainly manageable. A good percentage of her students end up with A's and B's. Good to take for this class.

Professor Combs is among the best I have ever had. Honestly at the beginning of the semester she scared me to the point that I almost dropped her class. However, by the end of the semester i was leaving with an A and a great experience. Don't let her scare you away at the beginning. Lots of papers to be written, but it makes you more comfortable with writing.

This teacher knows everything... I you don't believe me, just ask her... She also has favorite students, and if you're not one of them, it will be hard for you to get an A... Even if you've made A's on the essays. If you are one of her favorites, you'll probably get an A when you really deserve a B. I would definitely avoid taking her this class, unless of course you want a teacher who's always right and will argue until you either shut up or tell her she's right.

This was a great English class. We wrote a lot of papers, but we also had fun. Professor Combs can get attitude, but if you just ignore it, you'll be fine. She tries to scare everyone the first couple of classes and makes you think she's a tough grader, but she's not. As long as you put forth effort, I'm sure you'll get an A in the class. You have to do one presentation, but it's not as big of a deal as she makes it out to be.

The class isn't hard. Probably easier than most other 300 classes. But she thinks it is high school, therefore she requires vocabulary tests. You have to read a lot of dumb stories and have quizzes over them, but they are not hard. Many times, she will give you the answers. But do not take this class if you are the least bit liberal. She hates that. She fought a lot with students who did not believe what she did. And she has to have the last word. If you can keep your mouth shut and make it through the first month without killing her (or she you), then you will be fine. She grades easy on the papers. If you can site things, she loves it and you can make 100s on papers.

Ms. Combs is the most overbearing and difficult person I have ever had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting. Most of the in-class essays we were made to write were throughly picked apart to nothing and any attempt to be creative was quickly shot down. We are also being made to write a research paper in which the topic is not factual, but based on pure opinion. The novel we read for the class was far and away the worst thing I have ever read in my entire life, and any opinion other than "the book was a masterpiece" is quickly knocked out. If you have to take this class, choose this instructor only as a last resort.

There are tons of essays to write but that isn't really the problem unless you hate to write which in that case TOUGH LUCK, because that is mostly what english is. Your bigger problem however will be Mrs. Combs if you take this class. She insults everyones intelligence and seems to be a bitter old woman. I didn't specify my grade only because I have yet to finish this course, but overall the class isn't hard so if you take it your bound to do well, but probably even better if you can get a kinder teacher. She only likes suck ups!! Don't be tardy either because 2 tardys equal an absence and your only allowed 3. Their is an exit exam required for all ENG 100 classes, so in here you have to read a book about rabbits to write this final essay on! I hated it, but she loves it and don't try to tell her any different!

Mrs. Combs is a very nice woman but I seriously think she is insane. For the past 15 years she's been teaching 300 classes and we were her first freshman class. Mrs. Combs did not go easy on us at all. She doesn't teach anything, just assigns papers every other day. The only way I pulled a B is because I worked my butt off and she liked me. She expects everyone to write like they're junior or seniors, I strongly wouldn't recommend taking her as a freshman.

Okay, to be brutally honest, she is not a very good teacher! She's really scatterbrained, and always changed dates and forgot to follow the syllabus-plus she made us read this retarted book about rabbits, and acted like it was the greatest book ever published! Mrs. Combs is a really nice person, but I couldn't understand the university chose to let our parents pay her salary! Oh, and she ends her senetence with prepositions! What kind of an English teacher does that?!?

Mrs. Anna Combs is a very wonderful teacher. She is so silly. She got upset with us at first, because a lot of us were unable to do the MLA format that you are supppose to know as a freshman. Well we didn't learn it. But if you ask her, she takes out the time to help you with your work. The final is your major paper. You have to do a presentation, but it is not as bad as it sounds. I actually had fun doing mine. She would probably be under STAFF, because she teaches elsewhere in the day and could only do night classes. But I would seriously recommend her. I liked her anyway. And we didn't have exams, just papers. (It is an english class).

Mrs. Combs made our ENG 300 class go by so fast with her hilarious and amusing comments. There is a lot of work for the class: 6 essays, several quizzes, research paper, and presentation, but nothing is critically graded. The presentation may sound scary, but it's really not a big deal. Overall, great class! Highly recommend it!

Mrs. Combs is an excellent professor to take. She is VERY funny and not because she cracks jokes or anything, she is just totally herself and it is hilarious. The first day makes many people drop because there are a required 6 essays, 10 quizzes, and a reseach paper as the mandatory final. But do not fret because her bark is way bigger than her bite. Grammer is not a big deal for the essays, just make sure you do the heading EXACTLY like she told you to and also make sure the work cited page is perfect. Content is not as important as the two things aforementioned. All of the essays are on literary writings in the textbook.

Mrs. Combs made this class interesting and as fun as a required english class could be...
Although the material was often dry, she tried to relate it to us, and tell us why it was useful to learn.
