Dr. McElroy is not arrogant. Never the entire semester did he come across as being so. He isn't difficult to get along with. Sure, his tests aren't easy but this is college - they don't spoonfeed you here. His tests are challenging but not impossible. Use your head and go to class and you shall do fine.

Do not become a lazy college student, allow yourself to APPLY your lecture knowledge! This is exactly what Dr. McElroy will do within his test. They are multiple choice, yet requires you to THINK and APPLY your knowledge. If you want a challenge and want to LEARN, this is the course for you...

To be successful in this class you must apply your knowledge. It it very possible to do well, but you must seek a complete understanding of lecture material. The class was very hard, but doable! DO NOT BE A LAZY COLLEGE STUDENT, TRY IT!

I have to say that I partly agree with all of these bad reviews of Professor McElroy. His tests ARE very very tricky. However, even though he doesnt thoroughly explain everything he talks about, I have to say that I learned more from him than I did from the two biology teachers I had in high school. If you don't like to study or if you dont like a challenge, dont take McElroy.

First of all, I would like to say that I HATE biology! I hated it in high school (although I did manage to pull out an A in high school) and I hate it now! I would even go as far to say that McElroy has probably made me hate it even more!
Professor McElroy doesn't care whether or not you show up for class. He doesn't take attendance or get to know ANY of his students. Also, he has an attitude like he could give one less if his students fail or if his students pass. He won't offer any additional help, and if you email him, don't expect a response because you won't get one.
On the first day of class, he tells everyone that it's pretty pointless to buy the books (which it is, trust me). All of the notes are on the internet for you to print and that's all he goes over during lectures. The tests are all multiple choice; I first thought that they would be pretty easy, but I was very wrong! Most of the questions have more than one correct answer and you're expected to pick the "best" one. What makes me mad is the fact that I didn't miss ANY classes, but my highest test grade was still only a 76% (which is the one test I took when I was sick with strept throat!)
GOOD LUCK! (you'll need it if you have McElroy)

Professor McElroy is a very difficult professor. The tests are all multiple choice and there are only about 33 questions on each. But they are very hard and some of it has nothing to do with the notes or lectures. There are only 4 total tests that make up the grade.

This was the worst class of my freshman year. Not only does he think he is God, but his tests are totally out of this world. You could study for 10 days straight doing nothing else, and still make a bad grade on his tests. Trust me on this one!! He is very intelligent, but the problem is that he cannot teach, he twists everything around so that you can never understand what he is saying, and sometimes actually says that he is lying to you to

This class is BS! The notes are BS! The lectures are BS! The name of the class should be BS! Whether you go to class or not, it does not make any difference because he does not explain anymore than what is on the internet! The notes do not relate to the test at ALL!

very difficult class in my opinion- you study forever and have no idea what is on the tests!! He teaches honors biology even if you are not in the honors program. No lie!!!!! I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. Try to take someone else if possible.

Doug McElroy is the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. I have had 4 straight years of high school biology, but it did nothing to prepare me for this [professor]. He thinks he is God, and don't waste your time arguing with him, it will do you no good. DON'T TAKE MCELROY! (Unless you plan to fail)<HR>Edited for slander.

McElroy is a very smart man, yet can't relate to the student population. His tests are ridiculously difficult and have no relation to his notes. When it comes to asking quest. in class he is too arrogant to give you a straight answer. Take my word for it DON'T TAKE MCELROY!

Doug McElroy is probably the worst and hardest teacher I have ever had. He thinks he is God. You study your ass off for an exam and he writes up different exams than what's in the notes. He is really a smart ass when it comes down to it. He gives no bonus, no dropped scores, no curve, only 4 tests. He is probably a really smart guy, but we're college students, Mr. McElroy, not rocket scientists.

McElroy is ok, but don't think you're going to get much out of him. He's an evolutionist, and follows that path of thinking. Never a straight answer....
