Dr. Weston is very scatterbrained. She knows her content, and you'll learn a lot, but it is hard to listen to her argue with herself about the meaning of a poem. All of our grades were in one month, so none of us knew our grades when finals rolled around. She gives super hard reading quizzes with questions that come out of nowhere (she'll probably lose them though, so you'll get full credit on some of them). It's not worth the stress.

Dr. Weston is a super nice lady, but her class is super boring. All we did was discuss the readings every single class. It's a joke, but about a 1/5th of your grade is participation --- basically, coming to class. If you don't skip a lot you should do fine, but good luck making yourself go to the most pointless class ever.

She is LITERALLY the most boring teacher in the world. She sits in front of class and tries to lead class discussions by rambling about nothing. She's easy to take, as long as you read the novels and stay awake in class. She grades very easy as well. .

Dr. Weston really is a literary genius; however, that genius can sometimes come across as insanity. She seems a little scatterbrained and jumps around in class discussions. You discuss literature in general, criticism types, read Dracula, write a paper over Dracula, read Life of Pi, write a paper over it, and give two presentations. You don't get a lot out of it, but not completely unnecessary. She's really nice and always willing to help, but her sweet exterior hides the fact that she's a pretty tough grader on papers.

Basically, if you want to be lulled to sleep for a good hour or so, take this class. It's not hard, and if you've taken upper-division English classes you'll be fine. But you learn absolutely nothing. The emphasis is on theories -- and I'm almost done with the semester and still have no real idea on what the heck we're really learning. She goes back and forth on what she agrees with, making it difficult to really know what she wants.

I had this as an online class. Weston is an ok teacher but far from the best. You do three small papers and a 10 page research paper. All your papers have to be over your major. You must remember to constantly check blackboard. There are dicussion board prompts which are easy and pointless. You get a participation grade for those as well as for reviewing 3 other peoples papers everytime the rough drafts are due. She is a pretty picky grader which sucks. I got an 80 on a paper simply because she re-worded a few sentences. Not a hard class by any means but don't expect to be handed an A either.

My complaint isn't about the class or the reading but the professor. She rarely if ever answers back on emails and waits until the night before to post readings on blackboard, preventing you from getting an early start on anything. Also, she doesn't say anything definite in the class. It is as if she is too scared to make a stand on any point, no matter how insignificant. The class only consisted of reading and discussion so it was pretty easy but not at all enlightening or enjoyable.

It is true that Dr. Weston is soft-spoken. It is also true that since the classes are so focused on discussion and not lecture that they can seem a bit rambling. But Dr. Weston is such an open-minded, intelligent, likeable person; she has awesome insight.
You will have a hard time taking notes, but just crack open your anthology and write in the margins. Don't be afraid to write in your book! Well, if you want to resell them then don't write in the book. But you will be able to use your books and notes on the finals. I'm digressing.
I think Dr. Weston is great. And I was not the only person who really liked this class. She does take a while with the papers. True. But she gives great comments on our papers. Did I mention how stinking smart she is? And nice? And the reading load isn't bad.
This is not a hard class. And you might make some friends along the way. And you just might come away with a new appreciation for British literature -- I know that I kind of like some of British poetry, which is saying something.
You might or might not like her, but you should. Just don't freak out that this is not a lecture class, or that you spend a great deal of time on old poetry, or that you can't always hear what she says. Here's my three-point plan for your success:
1. Enjoy the discussions and add to them and make fun of people like me who say dumb things.
2. Expand your mind with the poetry. I'm not a poet, but I did two papers on old poems which I found to be quite groovy.
3. Sit up front to hear her -- or turn up your hearing aid. It's so worth it.
Basically, Merry Christmas. Give her a chance, don't listen to the negatives, and just soak it all up like a sponge on the white cliffs of Dover. Yah baby!

Dr. Weston is one of the most intellectual professors on this campus. She has a way with words and cute, klutzy mannerisms. She respects what you have to say and doesn't judge. An awesome teacher.

I only say this course is moderate because you do have to remember to check blackboard often. Dr. Weston is probably a better teacher at a distance. She takes a while to grade things and I have had a hard time getting her to return my messages regarding the class. So, as long as you don't ask her when she will have papers graded and have no problems with the blackboard system, the class is cake.

I've been here three years now, and Weston's class was, quite possibly, the greatest waste of time I've encountered so far. Everything is centered around class discussion, and as a result, the students all speculate a great deal, but learn absolutely nothing.
Avoid this instructor if it's remotely possible.

Doesn't involve the whole class in discussion. Is hard to hear. Not much info on what the exam will be like, Terriable reading material. Seems like a nice person, just doesn't reply to emails. Didn't like her teaching style.

This was by far the most useless class that I have taken yet. I learned nothing about writing and it was a waste of time going to class. She tries to lead class discussions but no one talks because no one understands what she is rambling on and on about. She is super boring and talks so soft and monotoned that its hard to stay awake. The only good thing I can say about this class is that she graded easy. There were only 3 3-page papers to write and an 8 page reasearch paper. No other grades so you have to do well on those papers. She's a really sweet lady but very boring.

This course was worthless. I learned nothing. It did not give a good overview of British literature since it was highly concentrated with Poetry. Weston's teaching style needs some work, and the subject matter needs to be more in depth rather than just sitting there discussion a tone of a poem. On top of that, we spent almost a month reading a book by Ishiguro written in 2005, and it was absolutely worthless! No benefit to the literature world. I learned nothing, and got nothing valuable out of this class. I would not recomend her even if you wanted an "easy" grade. I even heard one student refer to sitting through this class as "purgatory." A true waste of time and money!

Take her for this class. She is not the most interesting teacher, but the class in very easy. She is not a hard grader and she will help you if you ask. You have discussions and write papers. Highly Recommend!

Dr. Weston is one of the worst teachers I have had. The class is dreadfully boring and I don't learn anything. She doesn't teach. The class mainly consists of class discussion.
