Terrible teacher. She spent two thirds of the class talking about Downton Abbey, the Kentucky Derby or her trip to South Carolina and one third of the class actually teaching. The class was completely chaos, she always had to change the dates of when stuff was due because she got so behind talking about off topic stuff. She had us do three papers, two of which were ridiculously long. The way she presents is confusing as well. She skipped over large portions of British History because she needed to catch up and because she is an awful teacher. I feel cheated out of tuition money and knowledge. Avoid this professor!

The class overall is fairly tough, it's about the way a college class should be in college. She is a very nice and funny professor. You must attend every class or you will miss something, but she makes the class a little interesting even if you dont really like history. I loved this class and would recommend it!!

I have had Dr. Carraco for two classes before this, and I must say she is one of the best overall teachers I have ever had. She is very kind, funny, and knows a lot about her subjects. She provides a lot of interesting tidbits that most other teachers would ignore. She grades fairly and returns papers and tests in a quick and timely manner to better benefit her students.

You must filter out erraneous information.
Sometimes, the 1st 1/2 hour was spent talking about how our day was.
Other times, the last 1/2 hour, we got out early.
Books aren't required if you take great notes, but they may help you for your test. Teach yourself the 20th Century!!!!
No homework, but there are three papers to write.

RUN AWAY!!!
Dr. Crowe-Carraco is a lovely woman, and she'd be great for, say, an afternoon lecture, but you do NOT want to get stuck in her class. When I took the final, I knew of two grades, the first test and a map quiz (out of three tests, two map quizzes, two papers, and five short papers on events I had to attend). She trails off in the middle of lectures, and you have little to no idea what or how to study for her tests - she'll give a vague idea of possible essay questions, but many of the shorter questions weren't even covered in the PASS sessions.
I got an A by the grace of God and working my butt off, but it was way more difficult than it should have been. Her disorganisation (and her tendency to make unintentional slightly racist, homophobic, or otherwise inappropriate remarks) made this class a very frustrating experience.

Dr. Crowe-Carrico is a great person but her classes tend to lack by way of information. I would say it was a 50-50 chance that you would actually have a lecture. A number of times she would go off on tangents rather then focus on the class. It was not unusual to walk out of class with only 2 lines of notes. Out of the 2 exams and 3 papers we did in the class, we only got one exam back. No idea how I did in the class. The professor is extremely disorganized. The best way to take this class is to buy the books and read them. And unfortunately her Georgia Civil War tour was not on the exam =(

This class was difficult. There were three papers that you had to do which were absolutely horrible. The first is 3 pages long, the second is 6, and the third is 12. The first half of the semester wasn't SO bad. The second half sucked! There were so many more notes taken during the second half of the year. I had about 50 pages of handwritten notes. We had no study guide for the final. You had to try to memorize everything you took down. I barely made it through. There is only a midterm and a final. She has "identification" questions and essays on the final. Hard hard class.

As I read before taking this course, the multiple choice on exams was diabolical. I actually studied the index of the textbook for the final and still missed some. Essays are fairly designed, instructor usually gives strong hints of what she will be asking before exam.
Reading level is very heavy. 3 texts plus 75-125 extra pp per week. Take during am otherwise light semester so far as reading goes!

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! I don't care what any of the other people wrote, this is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is VERY disorganized and she just talks about anything; some of the things she says don't ever pertain to the topic that we are talking about. Her test are really hard, and if you have questions about anything she is a smart aleck in her responses. I don't know who would ever like this teacher, and if I had to do it all over again I would never pick her as my teacher. Her class is the first class that I have ever hated and dreaded even thinking about. Please do yourself a favor and don't take Mrs. Carraco!!

This lady is hilarious. The class was so easy. The first test I studied like crazy for and got a B after that she lost our second test and just added ten points to our first test. Then the third she lost completely and just threw it out. Then the final she said if we came to class she would give us a B. It might have just been my class don't take my word that she will do it for yours. But we were always on her good side and some how managed to talk her into everything. If you think history is boring (and it is) she is the one to take if you want to make it interesting. I would recomend her.

This class was a very interesting class. You have a midterm and a final. The midterm was over the first half of our textbook and the last half was the final. You had a few papers you had to complete which I suggest getting started early on. I stopped taking notes early because they never helped me. It was better just reading the book by myself and studying it b/c all the info was straight from it. Dr. Crowe Carraco was very interesting and funny. She even invited our class to lunch at her house on the last day of class. One bad thing is that we never once got one single paper back graded. We turned a couple of things in in September and she hadn't graded them until December. No one ever knew what they made on anything. One of my friends took the class and never went and she made a B. Over half the class came but it was worth going.

Dr. Crowe is definitely one of the most "interesting" professors I've had so far at WKU. She's a really funny lady and tells stories to make class interesting, but it is hard to follow what she's talking about. I quit taking notes in her class in the middle of the semester because when I wrote down what she said, it made absolutely no sense! To do good on her tests, read the chapters out of the book, and go to the peer assisted study session. It is definitely worth your time.
Overall, Dr. Crowe's class was pretty easy. She is a very easy grader. I've heard she's one of the easier history professors at Western. If I had it to do over again, I would still probably take her class.

Dr. Carraco is a terrible teacher!! The class should be very easy, but when she assigns grades she just makes something up. She loses everything (papers, tests, etc.) and hardly ever comes to class herself. At the beginning of the semester I really enjoyed her class and thought she was funny. But by the end of the semester I didn't like her at all. She can be very hateful at times. I would recommend taking any other teacher besides her!!

Dr. Crowe is a funny woman and keeps class interesting...however class never really starts until about 15 minutes before it is supposed to be over. You spend most of the time talking about whatever is on her mind. Her matching on her tests are IMPOSSIBLE to do...ask anybody who has taken her. In Kentucky history there is a lot of writing to do, and every week you are required to read 75 pages from a different book each week, and write a page review about it. It sucks. People told me ot take her becuase she is easy but she is frustrating. You never get any of your work back and you never know what your grade is...I would not take her again.

First of all, Dr. Carraco's class is one of the most entertaining classes avaliable at Western. Attendance isn't required, but in order to pass the class, you have to come and pay attention to the lectures. Even though the textbook isn't required, it will help you discuss in depth the essay questions on the final. She doesn't give too much notes. This should be 200 level. It is easy, if you do your assignments and turn them in on time. Also if she loses anything you turn in, she gives you an A for that assignment. Each semester I have had her, she has lost at least one assignment.

Dr. Crowe-Carraco, a.k.a "Triple C", is a wonderful lady. She is so funny in class and it's actually pretty interesting to listen to her lectures. The projects are somewhat of a pain, but you do learn a lot about KY's history, so I guess it was worth it. They are just really time consuming! The tests aren't TOO bad. The matching part of the test is pretty much impossible...but the essays aren't too bad b/c she forewarns you about what you will be asked on the test. She doesn't tell you anything about the matching part though and I swear I had never even heard of some of those terms she had on the test! You really do learn a LOT about the history of KY, so it's well worth your time and money. :o)

She is extremely knowledgeable in her subject area. Sometimes she isn't as clear on directions as she could be, but she means well. She gives paper extensions like it's nothing, the whole class basically told her the day before a big paper was due that only a handful of us had it done, and she was like ah turn it in sometime next week. The course is hard, but its upper level, and it's supposed to be more difficult. She will help you.

I'm confused by the evaluations others have posted for Dr. Carraco. Although I heartily agree that she is a very nice and entertaining person I have to say she is also one of the worst professors at Western.
Dr. Carraco is so scatterbrained, flighty, and easily distracted that she seems to be almost senile. She never responds to emails, loses papers, does not return assignments, and most class periods are spent discussing completely random topics which often have nothing to do with either Kentucky or History. Of over twenty assignments that our class turned in she returned only one, which had major mistakes on the grading and provided zero feedback (which is a big deal on essay tests). She asked questions on each test about information that was covered after the test.
I feel like I've learned nothing from the course and I know many other students in my class who feel the same way. Although I like Dr. Carraco she is an embarassment to the University. I feel like she wasted my time and money.

Dr. Carraco is a real character. She does a really good job for the most part keeping you interested, but don't expect for it to always be exciting...It's history. You do some group work, and some skits and things which are fun. The tests are not too bad if you listen in class and study your notes and the book. She also gives quizzes over a supplementary book called Aspects. The quizzes are fill in the blank. From the horror stories I've heard about Western Civ, I'm glad I was in Dr. Carraco's class.

Dr. Crowe-Carrico, despite the fact that Seniors are notoriously overwhelmed anyway decided that more work should be accomplished by already-over extended students. She then decided that students, who normally and unfailingly, make A's here did not deserve such status in her class. Together with Dr. James Baker, they have formed a coalition to destroy the most promising students' careers before they even get off the ground. This sounds like sour grapes to me and I often wonder who will be the next student to pay for their personal failures.
