Dr McGee is a really good professor and extremely knowledgeable in her field. Her classes are a little intimidating when first coming into upper level German classes, but she is extremely understanding about your level of speaking. She talks in German throughout the entire class, but she doesn't expect too much from her students. She gives essays to write, and her tests are designed to test your knowledge on the course through answering questions and writing. She grades very fair and is genuinely concerned with making sure you are getting the most out of her class. If you are serious about continuing in German, I would definitely recommend her; but be prepared to do a lot of preparation for her class!

Dr. McGee is great. She very much wants your participation, which is key to mastering the material. She will call on you by name to ensure you participate. It was obvious that a lot of the students in my class were there to fill a gen ed requirement only and not to really learn anything. So, of course, that will absolutely show up in your grade (big surprise). If do your homework and you actively try to master the material presented in class and you actually study the material on your own, you will do great. Dr. McGee is great to work with as long as you do your part.
You have three exams, two oral interviews, various quizzes (always announced), and a city report to present. If she offers extra credit for doing things outside of class, by all means, take her up on it. You never know when you'll need it. Dr. McGee uses Blackboard, which is great for seeing how you're doing and for seeing how you're doing in relation to the rest of your class. I enjoyed the class.

This class is fairly simple if you can speak German well. If not, you'll have a hard time reading the texts, and they'll take you a while to translate. I didn't understand most of the material in there, but she lets you know what's going to be on the test. There's also a 5 page paper due at the end of the semester.

Dr. McGee is extremely talented and really knows her stuff. She is very passionate about German and it shows in her teaching. The first three weeks of this course consist of review (e.g. colors, numbers, alphabet), so don't be freaked out if you haven't had German since high school and don't remember much. I would recommend this course to anyone.

Dr. McGee's class is hard for the average western student. No doubt that this isn't a breeze course, but honestly i learned so much from this class. if you want to learn german take dr. mcgee, but if it is only a gen ed requirment getting out of the way, take straubel. unfortunatly, if you plan on majoring in german, you'll pay for taking straubel later.

I know that professor McGee has some pretty good evaluations on this site and i cant figure out why. Her class was horrible. I was fortunate enough to be in the 8 oclock class which was torture. She doesn't explain or teach anything. You basically teach yourself from your book. Attendence is mandatory and she is a b*tch about it. I got really sick and missed about 4 times WITH DOCTOR NOTES and she totally held that against me. I was supposed to have an A and i got a B because of my attendence. She even told me going into the final that I would have an A. Her class is pretty difficult a lot of people got C's. YOu have to really study and do your homework to do well, and attendence is a must. I would take straubel if you can

This class is difficult. If you suck up to the teacher, you may do better in the class then others. There are alot of teachers pets. Tests are very hard. You must be at class or you can not turn in homework or retake quizzes. Homework everyday. Quiz each week.

Western certainly made an excellent choice in bringing Professor McGee to its campus. She is extremely dedicated to her students and their performance in her class and she goes the extra mile to ensure that her students are learning and striving to reach their full potential. Any time a student has a problem, whether personal or academic, Professor McGee is always available to assist. However, she does not tolerate nonsense in her classroom, so be prepared to behave like a college student. High school is over now, ladies and gentlemen!
First and foremost, she is a teacher in the sense that she was called to teach, and there are not enough good things I can say about her. Her methods make students learn and participate actively in class. Definitely take her courses! You'll find that learning German and about Germany isn't nearly as difficult as it may seem.

If you haven't had German before avoid this class. Dr. McGee takes it very seriously and you must attend class in order to turn in homework. You have a small homework assignment every single day. Also Dr. McGee is a smartaleck. But it you can put up with all this, and study several hours before each exam and do the homework you can make an A.

I have no doubt she knows her stuff, or that she cares about her students, but it is a lie that this class is for people with no previous German experience. The first day was taught almost entirely in German, and the text book is the same way. If you truly have little or no knowledge of German, take someone else.

Laura McGee is the greatest professor at Western. I have never had a professor who cared as much for her students well being, success in the course, and success in life. She may be challenging, but she's opened up worlds and oppertunities for me that I never knew existed. People line up at her office to talk, and she's always willing to listen and offer advice. Seriously, she's a canidate for academic sainthood. If you want to improve your german ability, broaden your world view, and engage in thoughtful discussion with a brilliant mind, take Dr. Mcgee.

Dr. McGee is the best. She makes things very easy to learn. She would review with the class right before a quiz and her test were pretty easy if you study some and pay attention in class which is easy to do since she insures that you participate. She doesn't take up homework but will call on you in class so make sure you do it. If you do all your homework she will grade easier on your test, if not good luck getting an A. I strongly recommend that you take her if you are going to take German.
