Additional Comments
Dr. Antony can come across as a bit scattered and distant but he is a nice guy and this is his area of interest, making him rather knowledgeable. To some he may seem a bit dry but if you have interest in this area of study it will prove interesting. The subject matter is China and Japan, more so than any other Asian nations. The difficulty of this course is in the low moderate range. There is a group presentation which counts as a part of particiaption grade; most groups tended to go a bit long but probably got decent grades. 50% of the grade is from two tests with 5 of 6 ID's and 1 essay, both form a study guide he hands out. He does not grade the tests very hard. His lectures are often enough for the tests; most of the time you dont need the main textbook. Smaller books are read too, but they are just discussed and often you dont have to read them closely. The other 25% is from a 5 page book report. The pick-a-prof stats say he has a 2.44 overall GPA in his classes, but for 461 it jumps to 2.85, with about 75% getting an A or a B.
I spent some time with Dr. Antony at a social gathering; he might not seem to be the hippest guy but he still is nice. This is a fairly good way to fulfill the world area category for history.
