Debra Crisp is not only a knowledgeable teacher, but she is very articulate and easy to listen to. She is a tough cookie, but she knows her stuff. If you are a serious student looking to earn your grade and take a lot from a class, she is the professor to take. Also, her lectures and slides are very thorough. The tests and papers are tough, but not impossible.

I tried posting an evaluation earlier but it was never posted. I had her some time ago, but I am still furious with her. Thinking about that semester makes me get angry and cry.
She's irrational, inconsistent, temperamental, immature, mean, and just a horrible person. She cannot teach and does not follow any criteria when grading. Grades are arbitrary, inconsistent, and incredibly unfair. If you make her like you, you may do okay. It doesn't matter how you do on performance evaluations (tests, assignments). She won't necessarily even grade them. And on that note, questions that she creates are ridiculous and confusing, and even when grading tests or quizzes, she's using personal bias, which is also largely dependent on her mood at that minute. In addition to all of this, she lies to students with abandon. It's quite ridiculous. And she truly seems to enjoy making people feel terrible about themselves. Others agree on this.
I regret ever having taken her more than anything.
If you find yourself needing a course that she teaches, defer graduation or change majors. Do not take her.

I really enjoyed Dr. Crisp. I know there are a lot of negative things posted about her, but she is really fun. I took her night class and I thinks he's a little more relaxed in it. She is really tough on her attendance policy though.
There are quite a few writing assignments but they aren't that difficult, mostly just 2 pg. papers.
I don't think Dr. Crisp covered any racial issues in our class. She was very fair and I never felt uncomfortable or discriminated against.
Overall, she is very fair. She might be strict, but the class is enjoyable and there is a lot of discussion to participate in.

Dr. Crisp expects a lot from her students. I think she believes that this is everyone's only class. She is very unclear on what she wants on assignments and tests. She is not very good about returning grades quickly. I really didn't learn anything about adolescents that I haven't learned in other classes. She focuses mainly on racial issues. I would not recommend taking her class unless you have nothing else to do besides write papers, read, and study.

DR. CRISP WAS A GREAT TEACHER BUT THE WORK WAS HARD... SHE WENT OVER ALL THE NOTES AND TALKED TO YOU IN DETAIL TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND. THAT WAS WHAT I LIKED ABOUT HER. BUT, THE TESTS WERE HARD! ESSAYS SHE TOLD YOU WHAT THEY WERE BUT, THE REST OF THE TEST (75% OF IT) WAS STUFF SHE MENTIONED OR DIDNT EVEN MENTION THAT WOULD BE ON THE TEST. I REALLY DIDNT LIKE HER AS A PROF. SO, YOUR CHOICE.

This class is not easy; however, Dr. Crisp is great. She is very helpful. I did not think she focused on race issues at all. I barely remember it being mentioned. There are a lot of writing assignments, but that is to be expected. It is a 400 level class. Do not wait until the last minute. She knows if you do.

I would just like to say that Dr. Crisp is a very tough teacher, but she does know her stuff. And trust me she will come across as one during your first class meeting. But not all classes are supposed to be easy. She has a lot of people from all over the community come in and share their information with her students. There was a lot of writing involved with her course but most of them were simple 2 page reaction papers. I would advise anyone taking her class to start looking for 2 adolescents ASAP for the interview assignment. Otherwise I think she is a great prof.

I find it funny that out of the 4 ratings that were already posted about Dr. Crisp that at least 2 of them mentioned that she focuses on race issues in class. I am not a racist person and I have taken an African American Studies class at WKU. If I wanted to take another one I would have signed up for it, but I signed up for Adolescent Psychology. I do feel that race issues are important but they did not need to be brought up in every lecture. There were also racist comments made toward students in my class which I felt were very uncalled for and should raise the issue of her abiliity to teach. She obviously has a chip on her shoulder and brings it into the classroom. I would not recommend taking her for class because I do not feel like I learned much about adolescents which was the whole reason I took the class. There was also an over-abundance of writing assignments. Even though this was a writing component class there were more writing assignments required than there were in the English 300 class I took. I would not recommend Dr. Crisp as a teacher.

Dr.Crisp was the most racist teacher that i have ever come across. I was once interested in psychology but after having her class i was totally turned off from that department. Her grading is moderate but she asks you to do the most irellevant assignments. And make sure you do your papers from websites that she asks you to otherwise she won't except them. She did that to half of my class. My last day in the class I told her that I despised her as a professor and that I would never recommend to any to take her class. STAY AWAY!!!

If the previous eval thinks the air is clear, they must live in L.A. She is a racially motivated know it all. Any time the previous person wants to match GPAs, let me know. College is probably the only work you have done.

After reading the other responses on this website about Dr. Crisp, I felt I needed to clear the air about her. Yes, Dr. Crisp is a tough professor, but if you go into class prepared to learn, you'll do fine. Most people think that 100 level classes are like high school. Wise up people, this isn't high school, it's college, and it's not supposed to be a cake-walk, so get over it. Her final is not mandatory, however, you can take the final if you would like to drop a lower exam score. I made a D on the first exam, but that was my fault. I ended up with an A in the class. Just a word of advice, if you want to take a class that challenges you to do your best, then take Dr. Crisp, but if you're lazy and think you don't have to work for your grade, well, why are you in college?

I took this as a summer class expecting it to be just a little bit more laid back than normal. I was wrong! You're only allowed 1 (ONE) absence before she starts taking points off of your final grade! Even if you're late (over 5 minutes) she counts that as an absence and deducts points. We spent the entire first week talking about the scientific method...is that psychology??? I've never had a psych class before, so I thought this would be a fun class to take over the summer. I ended up having to withdraw because it was so horrible. She is very racist and insists on staying that way. Whatever you do...don't take this woman for anything!

A total collection of ramblings. This class was more anatomy than psychology. It was announced that three abscences would be given without effecting the grade, then she gave extra credit to students that attended one night just because the numbers were low. My one abscence DID change my potential grade. Also, she should describe the class as racial psychology.

Ms. Crisp fronts as a nice person. Honestly I feel that she is a very prejudice person. I had her for a night class, you stay for the entire time doing nothig but taking notes. She thinks that she is humorous, but really all she is, is a snobby smart-ass. Every student in the class was white. She was the only black person in there. She dwelled for two days on white people being racists. She is too judgemental of a race that she obviously knows nothing about. That woman is prejudice to everyone and everyting but herself!!!

This should not be a very difficult class, especially for those who have had previous studies in psych. I had her for a night class. You'll stay the entire time, and while you're in there, you will take notes, notes, and more notes (excessive overkill is how I would describe it). Her definitions are vastly different than the book's definitions. You need to read the book for the test too, although she failed to tell us that. The tests are very long and require at least 5 essays. She gave a study guide once, but it was worthless. It's a great deal of information to study for.
When you're not taking notes, your likely to be in a group. We did one or two assignments that were reasonable, and two or three that were among the most wasteful I have ever taken part in (my group members agreed).
You may have 3 abscences. But, none after that, even if you have to go to the dr. I had to go to the dr., and next class we had a test (unannounced to me), yet I still had to take it. She also treated me unfairly in response to my disability. I learned more in high school psych. Do you still want to take her for psych?
