This is a very interesting course, but certainly not easy. There is lots of math and algebra. If you've had Econ 206 you shouldn't have a problem. Dr. Howsen is willing to help if you do.
There are only two tests. Instead of a final, the last two weeks are used for group presentations. He assigns the groups in alphabetical order and gives each group a chapter from a mangement book to base their presentation on. It was easy to do. With only two tests and the presentation, there aren't many opportunities to earn points. He does offer extra credit, usually without warning and sometimes for just being there.
If you are interested in the interplay of management and economics, I highly recommend the class.

Like every econ class, come every day and take notes. All the tests are over the notes. There are only two tests and one presentation however that total 100 points. So you have to do well on everything to get an A. It's not that hard though and there are a few opportunities to get extra credit which helps. Mr. Howsen is a great teacher who is always willing to help during and outside of class and he really enjoys class and it is quite fun. Personally I loved the topics we covered so even though I took it as a 3 hour, one night a week class, I always looked forward to it.

I aboslutely loved Dr. Howsen. Many of the students complain about how the questions on the test were nothing like what we went over in class but it isn't true. Before every test he would reserve a day so he could review and students could ask any questions they might have. He also let us have a folder where we could write all of our formulas on it. I would definatly take him again

Awesome teacher and awesome guy. Very interesting class. If people say its a lot of math they are not lying but its not anything advanced. You can learn all the math you need for this class in about 20 seconds. I highly reccomend Dr. Howsen to anybody.

I'm not going to lie, this is probably the hardest course I've had at WKU. Not because the material is overly difficult, but because you must attend every class, and that's tough for me. If you attend every meeting, you will do fine in this class. Take good notes, and the tests are pretty much 6-10 problems/essays that you have to solve and work out. It's nothing you don't go over in class though, and the book is pretty much not needed.

Dr. Howsen is very knowledgeable in teaching Econ, but isn't great about communicating it efficiently to all of his students. Granted this class is made to be difficult and upper division, but Dr. Howsen moves quickly through the material and doesn't like to go over the same problem twice. Attendance is not mandatory, homework is rarely given, no quizzes and DO NOT buy the book. It's of no help and you can look off the person beside you when he rarely uses it in class. There are group presentations, with 3 to a group, the last two weeks of class teaching from material he gives you. Grades consist of 2 exams and the presentation. I HIGHLY recommend you find a study group. This is that class that if you miss one day you might have well missed a week you are so behind. Nice guy, but expects a lot.

This class is only difficult because you go MWF and you must attend to get all the notes. If you slack off in this class you will get behind by only missing two class periods. The book is a waste of money so don't buy it, Howsen teachs from his own outline which makes it hard to look things up. If you can take good note and remember everything you will do fine in this class. The final, is a presentation so do good on it if you have done bad on the other two test.

I took this class having knowledge with trig and calculus...this was by far the hardest class i have ever taken at wku....the teacher knew his material but got a boner over stats.....he did not relate the material to students very well, he would just assume that you knew it before u joined the class....my advice is, take another teacher as he is a douche bag and wont even let you keep your tests so you can study for the final....

This course has a lot of math and problem solving. Attendance is important so that you do not miss important examples. Tests are much like the examples he gives in class. Dr. Howsen himself is a very friendly and likeable man.

Have you ever seen one of those scenes in a comedy where the students are scribbling notes so fast that smoke is coming off their paper and it sounds like the teacher is speaking gibberish? I think they got that idea from Dr. Howsen's class. Not only does he cover material at the speed of light, but he says "and you get what?" and "and this is what?" and "now we do what?" over and over again until everyone is looking around at each other and saying "what?" Yeah, that is really what it is like. I actually felt dumber just by trying to listen to him.

I took economics 150 the most basic class with Dr. Howsen and did not do so well, I am now retaking economics 150 with another professor and I am making a b in there. To me when your grade is actually raised by two letters than the professor is the problem.

This class has scarred me for life! I felt like Dr. Howsen knew his stuff, but it was like he knew so much that he couldn't explain it very well. I don't feel like I came out of that class knowing very much about Statistics. I think Dr. Howsen needs to make sure that his students understand the basics of his class before rushing through so much material.

Day one I realized I was in trouble. He started talking "review" topics way over all our heads. Probably one of the hardest courses I've taken, but also the most rewarding. I learned about as much in this class as any I've taken. Great professor, and he's more than fair with his grading.

What a joke! Class started out good but went downhill from there. I am sure if you ask, he'll be willing to show you his diplomas in his office. Bad grades are the students fault because he has been here for a long time... if you don't believe it, just ask him - he will be very happy to tell you!!! When it comes to extra help, he is not very willing.
