Prof. Rutledge is widely liked by his pupils, so I feel I should speak up for the minority. I did not find the course inordinately difficult, and the workload, I believe, was extremely fair, but be warned...His opinion is the right one, and if you intend to explore the subject matter in any direction that does not coincide with his views, you will get nowhere. I ask a lot of questions, and thrive on intellectual discussion of literature, but this is not to be found in this course. If you are OK with this (as many apparently are) you will be fine, if not, you will be frustrated, but will still do well if you work. I would not describe him as a bad professor, but I would say he is a bit of a dictator.
