Chalmers is an interesting teacher. He is really you're stereotypical art Professor who talks about abstraction, wine and cheese. He gives great criticism and is brutally honest but constructive. If you want a teacher to discuss the philosophical side of art Chalmers is great.

The things people say about Chalmers are very true. He is pretty out there most of the time. He rambles on and on for hours on end about everyone's work in class. Work is usually never done with him, but he does understand that and doesn't let that really affect your grade. I had him in Drawing 140 also, and took him again this time for 240. He's a good teacher and his constructive critizisim is usually right on. The "independent projects" are a pain in the ass, so be prepared to come up with your own project, no guidlines what-so-ever for those. I think he's a teacher you should experience once in your life-time, it can't hurt.

In this class we prepared for our portfolio review and practiced building a drawing project from start to finish. Chalmers is a good teacher, but sometimes seems to be in his own world. we only drew one day of the entire semester, which I didn't like. He spent 2.5 hours a day discussing our art, which was very tiriing.

This class was very challenging for me, that may because it was a bi-term course and the material moved very fast. Dr. Chalmers (art dept. head) is a nice teacher, but the material seemed to move a little too fast for me. I could have studied more for the tests (4) since they counted about 75% of total grade. We also had to do 4 papers on art gallery observations which helped pull my grade up. He is a good teacher who you can tell knows a lot about art. Just study for the tests!
