Dr. Ferrell is a FANTASTIC teacher, he knows the material extremely well and he LOVES to teach it, you will find few professors like him at WKU or anywhere. He makes himself available at all time and answers questions quickly and loves to do so. With that being said this class is simply a tough class, there is no way to make it "easy" and the amount of information can seem overwhelming at times, but take it in stride. The lab practicals are just as tough as the lecture, and if you do not study for the lecture you are up shit creek without a paddle. This being said, during lecture make sure you pay attention to what he SAYS versus what he draws, if you only pay attention to the drawings you may not do so great on the exams; just pay attention to what he says about the pictures and you will do fine. Good luck!

This class was a great learning experience. If you read the assigned readings and study with old exams (which Dr. Ferrell will provide), the class is not terribly hard. It is definitely not an easy A (or B).

This is a tough corse. Don't take this course if your looking for a easy biology elective. It is meant for students seeking careers in the medical field. The test are very difficult, but old test help because he asks similar questions and often time the test is the same format. Dr. Ferrell is a tough professor, but he knows his stuff. He will help you whenever ask outside of class or in lab. You get the grade you deserve, but there is no curve.

Dr. Ferrel is a professory that plays favorites. It is very obvious who he likes and who he doesn't like. His notes are not very clear. The exams do not follow the book or his notes very well. The lab was also very difficult because he would mutilate our speciman that we were dissecting, therefore we could not identify the proper parts on exams. There are not pictures available with the lab manual for you to reference to. Overall, this class was the worst experience of my college career.

Dr. Ferrell shows a clear mastery of the course material, as well as great enthusiam for teaching. He not only explains the course material very clearly, but also has a dynamic teaching style that makes his lectures downright entertaining. All in all, he makes dragging yourself out of bed at 8:00 a.m. actually seem worth while. If you take comparative anatomy with Dr. Ferrell you will find it to be a very challenging course, but if you are willing to put in the work you will also find it very rewarding. Be willing and prepared to spend additional time in the lab outside of the scheduled lab periods. Dr. Ferrell is also very willing a able to provide help outside of class. I highly recomend this class.

What can I say? Awesome class, and even better professor. Dr. Ferrell loves to teach this stuff, and it comes out in every lecture. This class is really a medical or dental school prep course, and it seems to be a great one.
I'd reccommend it to anyone who's pursuing a professional degree or a career in the health sciences. Just don't expect to get off easy, and there's no curve.

This is a good general biology course. The book is online, but if you really want to do well in this class, you will probably print the whole thing out. He's a great and helpful teacher. He is interested in what he is teaching, and is patient. Dr. Ferrell is very easy to get along with and is always available when you need him. My advice, though you don't have to go to class, go for the lectures, you will do better on the tests.

Make sure that you go to class. He counts off 5 points of your final grade for every miss. That is how I made a "B". Don't stay in class for very long. Recommended for Biology majors.
