She is by far the best math professor I have had. I would recommend her to anyone. If you have any trouble in her class she is always there to help, if you make the effort to ask her. Cell phones are a NO NO in her class she will mark off your TEST if she catches you. I would have made a A/B but I missed some of her classes before the 1st test.

This was a very hard course, but Dr. Dunkum is a good professor. At times she can come off as rude, but she has a great sense of humor and makes the class fun. There were four homework assignments throughout the year that play into your grades a lot. The rest of the grades is tests.

She is the most amazing mathematics professor at WKU. She is funny, generous, and fair. If I had studied for the tests, I would have made a b. I studied well for the weekly quizzes, and made a perfect score on them most weeks.

Dr. Dunkum is a good teacher that cares about your grade. She doesn't want anyone to fail and isn't the type of teacher that tries to make things any harder than necessary. You have a quiz on most Fridays and there are 3 exams and the final. She assigns homework, but does not take it up. However, doing the homework is beneficial to your grade. She also makes class interesting by joking around; she's not uptight at all. I would suggest taking Dr. Dunkum! :)

This is easy material if you understand math.
She taught a MWF course with Fri being the recitation day. I liked it because I didn't really want more than one recitation day (or even one at all). She prefers to move around rather than teaching from a fixed spot, like in an IVS classroom.
I am thankful to have such a wonderful teacher and look forward to future classes with her.

Dr. Dunkum is by far the best mathematics professor in the department at Western. If you are a science major and need calc I or just a math major in general, her class is the one to take. She cracks jokes like nobody's business and...she's just an awesome teacher. She really cares about her students and at the same time teaches the material effectively!

I LOVED Dr. Dunkum!!! She is very understanding and an awesome professor. She doesn't make you feel stupid and no question goes unanswered. I was very nervous about this class after hearing from other students who took other teachers but she is the ONLY one I would take for this class. She uses your basic math skills from high school and teaches you unique ways to instruct your future students! Highly recommended!

About the professor:
Molly Dunkum is possibly one of the greatest math teachers I have ever had in my entire life. Not only is she the shining star of the pitiful math department at WKU, she is a shining star in the realm of higher education. Dr. Dunkum is not a professor, she is a real person with a real personality. While most math professors act as if they are mechanically motivated to teach, Dr. Dunkum adds personality, wit, style, and an addictive brand of humor to the course. This lady had the entire class constantly laughing and enjoying themselves as she presented the complicated math material. In all honesty, it felt like you were not learning from a professor, but from another student who happened to be teaching the class. Dr. Dunkum is one of us; she is on the side of the students and it shows. All students love her, and you will too. Molly is an incredible individual!
She is always available for office hours (I visited her about three times during the semester) and will respond to an e-mail within 10 minutes of sending out a question. She goes out of her way to help students!
Her class is not filled with fun and games. She does teach and does have high expectations for students. She covers a section per class meeting, and gives at least one to two quizzes per week. She does not give study guides out for her exams either. Her exams come straight from the homework, but she does require that you know mathematic definitions, theorems, and proofs. Problem solving is highly emphasized, but upper level mathematics is required from this course. Quizzes are 20% of the course and exams (3 plus a final) count as the other 80%.
About the course:
Linear Algebra has no calculus. You will specifically cover content regarding how to work with matrices in order to solve problems. You will cover vector spaces, subspaces, matrix algebra, determinants, inverse matrices, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and linear transformations. The material is very abstract, but the math is nothing compared to Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus, and Differential Equations. It is a refreshing class and a very enjoyable one. The proofs are not too difficult and the textbook used for the course is exceptional.
I would recommend taking the course and this professor. She is an AMERICAN woman who will show you what it is like to be an effective teacher.

I have Dr. Dunkum for 211 and 212 and she is great. She is so helpful and wants all of her students to pass. She will do just about anything so that you will pass if you show effort throughout the semester. She is the best math teacher for these classes. This class is hard, but she is very helpful and explains things very well. Take her if you can.

I think Dr. Dunkum really wants you to learn and to do well in her class. I am not really that great when it comes to math, so the C does not reflect her! I feel that 212 is somewhat easier than 211 BUT it is still a lot to remember and you will have to memorize a lot of formulas...so don't slack off about learning those. She knows her material and will spend forever working with you if you go to her office with problems. I would take Dr. Dunkum if I ever needed another math class.

Molly Dunkum is a great Algebra teacher. She really takes her time with the notes and if the class doesn't understand a topic, she will slow down and take her time to make sure everyone understands. She is always available to help if you need any additional help outside class. She gives about 13 in class quizzes but most you can work in groups or use your notes, and she only takes your top 10 grades. In class she gives the notes on the board and then lets you out when you are done, so we got out early almost every day. The homework is on Math XL online and there isn't any reason you shouldn't get a 100% on all those because you can have it help you show you how to get the answers. She is a great teacher and I highly recommend her!
