Not an easy class. I went into it thinking it would be an easy A, but it took a lot of effort. 3 tests that are hard. Every answer looks correct. Connect online assignments due for every chapter before the test. Random pop quizzes. End of the class paragraph papers every day. I had it at 8 am, so it was a challenge to make it every day, but Spiller made is somewhat entertaining. I enjoyed his smart-alec personality. If I took the class again, I would do the connect assignments as I went along and not right before the tests, as well as take better notes.

Favorite teacher so far. He makes class fun with his smartass comments and picking on students. He makes everything applicable and doesnt waste time on information that you will never need to know. Show up to class and participate and do the small amount of work he gives you and a B should be the lowest grade possible.

This guy is funny and loves being a smartass with his students. Pretty cool class. Interesting topics and he makes it really interesting. The debate portion of the class was awesome, very practical. Midterm is really tough but final is easier.

He provides power points for all of his lectures and chapters. There are easy quizzes to do over every chapter before class. These points will really help! There are 3 exams including the final (around 30 - 35 multiple choice and 4-5 essays). All the essays come from the study guide! There is an individual paper that almost everyone makes a 100 on as long as you follow directions and a team project that isn't bad at all. He's young and very nice. He explains topics with real world examples. He would be the guy to take!

Dr. Spiller is hard to get a handle on. He is vague about what he wants on some of the assignments. Some professors do that and it seems nothing you do is right. With Dr. Spiller I finally figured out he wants to leave some things up to the students to decide. He will give parameters and certain things he wants covered on some of the assignments. If you cover those, you will do fine.
The success of the group project depends on your group. I didn't know anybody and just teamed with other people around me. I ended up doing most of the work. The one good thing about the group work is that everyone confidentially evaluates themself and the others in their group at the end of the semester and that is used to weight the group grade.
There are only two tests. This semester he had everyone take an essay (really just short answer) exam for the mid-term. For the final he offered the option of multiple choice or essay. The essay tests were difficult, but he seemed to be lenient in his grading. If you hit the main points he asked for, you got credit. He also gave partial credit on each question. The biggest problem is that there are only two tests and they cover a lot of material.
You do have to read a chapter before the first class of each week and take an online quiz. Even with an open book, some of the quiz questions can be tricky. There is also an individual paper and the group project. Throughout the semester there will be some small group assigments usually given on Wednesday and due on Friday. There wasn't much to them. A few times he gave a pop quiz, sometimes done by the individual and sometimes by the group. He also requires a minute paper at the end of each class. You just have to write a couple of sentences about what you learned or ask a question. It's mainly just for him to track attendance.
There were parts of the class I certainly did not like. However, as the class went on it seemed to get better. Also, as I got to know Dr. Spiller better and understand what he expected, I liked him better. This wasn't the best or worst class I have taken. If you are like me and his class is the only one that fits into your schedule, it's not bad.

What a horrible teacher. He is rude and judgmental and attendance is a must! If you can take a different teacher for this class, DONT TAKE Shane Spiller!

Tests are hard, class is fun. I felt he really cared about us learning the stuff. Some complain about his attendance policy, but I figured it out, you had to miss more than half of his classes before you lost a letter grade - that is much better than most! You have to have the book, do quizzes on chapters before he even talks about it in class, do a paper. Esssays are way easy if you study.

This is a good class. I learned a lot but by the end of the semester, I was definitely ready for it to be over. Ther eare 2 papers. One individual and one group. Both are very easy and he doesn't grade hard if you follow the directions. He says that attendance is not mandatory, but there is a participation grade this is highly affected by your attendace. He has all of the powerpoints on blackboard and if your study them you wil do well on the MC part of the exam. He also gives 10-12 essays out about a week before the exam and atleast 4-6 of them wll be on the exam, so if you learn them all, you will do fine. There are chapter quizzes on blackboard before you go over the chapter in class. The questions are straight out of the book, so you really need the book to do well on the quizzes. Good class. Good teacher. Just hope he doesn't pick you to be the butt of all of his jokes, like he did me. He sarcasm can get very old...

I got more out of this course than anything else I have had in the business school. I compared notes with my best friend (who had Schell) - they did nothing - which seems great - but she learned nothing. This course was easy if you kept up, and the lectures were fun and informative.

I had a friend who took this course at the same time I did, but with a different professor. My friend did a third of the work that I had to do and got an a, funny thing was he actually learned something, while I was just bored to tears on a daily basis. I carry around a 3.5-4.0 every semester and this class was a nightmare. Take any teacher but Spiller.
