Additional Comments |
This course is amazingly interesting and accessible to everyone. I'm very glad I took it. As for Professor Aubrey, I went back and forth between loving her and hating her. Aubrey really feels passionately about the topics and Folk Studies in general. She wants to get people to think and look at their views and why they have those views. It is clear that she is knowledgeable also. The readings are well selected and effective. Class discussions and activities were slightly lacking, equally due to students and professor. Professor Aubrey has a hard time understanding the student's point of view. When students don't understand what she is saying, she can be a bit abrasive. She sometimes can't see past her perspective. This shows in the construction of her tests and quizzes. I've decided that Aubrey has a lot of potential, but still has her share of kinks to work out. At times I got annoyed, but in the end, I feel that she was moderately effective. Those who want to learn, who want to apply themselves will get by fine. Those that want to merely get by or have to struggle might want to think a while before taking the course with Professor Aubrey. Give her a few semesters and she'll improve.
