Ms. Staynings is a stickler for attendance and punctuality. There are readings from both the textbook and a supplemental package of photocopies which you purchase at Staples. Summaries of readings are due at almost every class (three exceptions). You must be present at class to turn in the summary, or you receive a zero. She drops two summaries, so don't miss more than twice. There are also interesting outside assignments such as going to an international grocery store and writing about it, and interviewing someone from a different cultural group than yourself and writing about it. While this sounds like a lot of reading, writing and experiencing, it is actually very eye-opening and fun. Be prepared to discuss in class. Some of the material might be perceived as controversial, but not to an aware member of 21st century society.
