Absolutely LOVE Mrs. Elder! She is by far one of my favorite Professors! The people who gave her bad evaluations or said they hated her were probably just mad that they didn't work as hard as they should have. If you do bad in her class then you obviously didn't try on anything and there is no use in blaming her for your mistakes. She is very entertaining and very much like a high schol teahcer. We only gave three speeches and one paper in her class. She offers extra credit and the final is actually extra credit. COMM is a required class so your best bet for an easy, engaging, and educational class is to take her! I would recommend her to everyone! It's not hard just do your work and try! She is so silly and friendly, wish all professors were like her!

This class is definitely an easy A. She's exuberant, happy, and easy to get off-task. Her tests and quizzes are sporadic and their format is random. Some have a few multiple choices and fill the in the blank, others are take home essay, it really varies. But the content is easy, you take little notes, and as long as you show up, it's a pretty decent class.
Only complaint is I feel like I didn't learn as much as I wanted to in the class.

Mrs. Elder was an amazing teacher. We had two tests the entire semester, and they were take home. There was no final. She has a wonderful personality and is very bubbly. You had to do 3 speeches, and were allowed to use note cards, she doesnt grade your speeches very hard. Thank god. I would recommend her to anyone!

Dr. Elder is a very nice woman who is always open to helping her students out any way she can. She can usually be contacted easily via email or phone if you need to ask her something. Also she is easy to find in her office in office hours. She has a unique way of teaching, she doesn't just pull up a powerpoint and read the slides to the class like most teachers do. She actually teaches and tries to get you to understand the material. She is funny and always makes things interesting. She was my favorite teacher this semester, I definitely recommend taking her class.

Ms. elder is very nice but dont expect to really learn that much in this course. The material presented is more facts and theorie that YOU must memorize for the tests than actuall voice coaching. I am amazed my advisor(s) recommended this course. Yes, I have an accent but there's no way that one course could get rid of it

This class was very fun. Mrs. Elder is a wonderful teacher and tries to make class fun. The course teaches you how to speak correctly and pronounce words right. The final is composed of 25 words that the class choses as their word of the day, and all you have to do one at a time in the hall a week before finals is pronounce the word right. So the class makes its final. Fun class and fun teacher. Highly recommended. Only down side, you HAVE to go to class, she deducts 10 points every time you miss.

Unless you really need an 'A', I wouldn't recommend taking this class. For the most part, it was an absolute and complete waste of time. I took this class because it was recommended to me and I thought it would help me with public speaking and with my accent. It didn't help me at all-although it did raise my overall gpa just a bit! Ms. Elder is very nice and if you do take this class she'll work with you in any and all ways possible.

Mrs. Elder really makes it easy for students to feel comfortable while in her class. The tests are super easy and maybe 25 questions. They come straight out of the book and she tells you before hand what she wants you to know. As far as the speeches go - it really depends on the effort you put into information and not so much the actual speaking. Attendance is a must and it works out well because everyone ends up knowing each other by the end of the semester. That in turn helps you become more comfortable with speaking. This was a fun class that I really enjoyed going to. She's the best professor I've had so far at WKU and would recommend taking any of her classes.

Charlotte is a WONDERFUL instructor. She is very understanding and makes the class extremely comfortable. She will tell you that this will probably be your favorite class that semester. She will also tell you that you wo't realize that until closer to the end of the semester. She was totally right! We all became VERY close and I am not one to do that. If you read the material & take notes in class, & study for about an hour, you will do fine. She doesn't grade too hard on the speeches, but she grades easier towards the end of the semester. I would take her again in a heartbeat!

THE CLASS CONSIST OF NOTES, AND PARTICIPATION IN VOICE EXCERCISES DURING CLASS. ALSO, THERE ARE ONLY 2 TESTS.
THEY ARE ESSAY FORMAT AND EASY. JUST TAKE GOOD NOTES AND READ THE BOOK WELL. ALSO, THERE ARE PLENTY OF CHANCES TO GET GOOD GRADES THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER W/ PEER EVALUTIONS, ASSESSMENTS, AND THE FINAL GRADE OF AN EXIT INTERVIEW/NOTEBOOK OF WHAT YOU'VE LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER.
ALSO, YOU WILL LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WAY [YOU] TALK:>

It was Mrs. Elders first semester teaching the course and on top of that she was pregnant. You miss a lot of days from class because of these appointments you have with her to test your vocal quality. This is the best class I have taken at WKU! This has been the first semester she's taught 247, but it was excellent. The final isn't really a final, it's just an exit interview, but it's not a big deal, we didn't have to prepare for it. The tests aren't essay, just some fill in the blank and short answer. The book will help you out, but the tests are mostly from her notes. We did one assessment presentation and evaluated 4 speakers over the semester. I learned ALOT in this class and hated for it to end. Charlotte is fantastic, as an instructor and as a person! She's so easy to talk to about anything and she's always willing to help you out. Highly recommended!

Charlotte is fabulous. She understands how uncomfortable some people are with public speaking and does everything she can to create a relaxed, unintimidating atmosphere in the classroom. Two speeches, one group presentation, but they're not difficult and Charlotte explains in detail what she expects for each. She gives a take-home final that involves the textbook but you wont need it before then. Two tests, not stressful at all. Charlotte is extremely pleasant, easy to listen to, knowledgable and approachable.

This course's difficulty came from the class itself - public speaking, but Charlotte made it WONDERFUL! She is an awesome teacher and such a cool woman. You will learn a lot about life, college, and the business world and how to succeed. I used my text book maybe three times the whole semester, the most when doing to open book final. I would have shared with someone in another class if I would have know sooner. The daily class is note taking, but it isn't boring. The tests were mostly short answer and were easy as long as you took good notes and studied them. I never used my book to study and there were only two reading assignments, both in class, so again - didn't use the book that much. Charlotte is amazing and will make you fall in love with communications courses of all types.

Alright, this class... no, this teacher sucks. I don't mean to be plebian about it or so blunt, but that's how it has to be said. The class itself is easy as hell; there isn't a lot of work, only three speeches and about two short papers including the final (takehome this year, that's why I consider it more of a paper), mainly it is notes and Elders whining in a fishing-for-support/self-loathing way. Believe me, Elders, I don't care if the class was required, I'm not turned off a class because of that -- teachers that don't understand humor, decent writing, and logic in all its forms are what get me angry. I think that, this is what I've heard from people, Elders decides when she first meets a student that person is restricted to one grade and one grade only. Do you look like a "B" person? Well, guess what, you get a "B." Been in a car accident? horribly disfigured to the point of fugliness? Sorry, you get an "F"... maybe a "D" if she has sympathy. IF. I apparently looked like a B-C person throughout the entire year. After the final, somehow, I wasn't even that. Get this too, I did the final spectacularly -- bells, whistles, tambourines, you name the percussion instrument and it was there. All the questions were answered to their fullest, grammer was great, and I even threw in a few metaphors and jokes just to make sure that she wouldn't get bored reading 150 of the same gobbledygook. I was wrong. Don't do anything remotely entertaining or thought-provoking for this class, it will only confuse and befuddle the teacher. And what people don't understand, they destroy. Like a helpless troglodyte under the bitch-hammer, my grade was squashed. Just do the work to the T, turn in all the outlines, and don't be creative.

This class was most definitely one of my favorites. She's really laid back, easy to talk to, and even though she may go off on a tangent says everything in class that will ever be on a test. As long as you take notes, there really won't be any reason for you to have to read anything out of the book. She keeps class interesting as well, I never felt the need to sleep through it. Her tests aren't exactly easy, they require you to at least look over your notes and understand the topics in your own words because most of the points come from short answer. The final was a take home so it was easy, and she did offer a few extra credit opportunities. You have two presentations to do on your own and one as a group. She gives you an outline and as long as you follow it you'll do fine. I would recomend her to anyone and would take another one of her classes in a heartbeat.

Mrs. Elder is no nonsense. She is very nice, but she won't put up with excuses, which she will explain the first day of class. What I mean is, you have to contact her before class to let her know that you won't be in class and why and it has to be a good excuse, (not going shopping, or something stupid like that.) She taught me how to put a speech together. You have to give 4 speeches, each grow in point value, some times she will allow you to give make up speeches, if time allows, if not, then you don't get to give that one. Her tests are mostly fill in the blank, some short answer, and little essays; they don't have to be that long. You will get to know everyone in your class and become friends with them. I looked forward to that class every TR, because it was laid back and fun.

I really liked her, but she graded harder than you think.

Heres the scoop. At first, she seems nice and everything, but when it comes to grades, she grades hard. Extremely hard. I failed one speech and got high d's low c's on everything else, and I am seriously a good student. I have a 3.5 GPA. I was hoping for a C knowing I would at least get a D, and she gave me a B. I think if you try in there, and she likes you, and your attendance is good, she will cut you some slack, take her if you have to, but try not to if you can.

I would suggest taking this teacher for such a horrible class. No one likes getting up in front of the class and speaking, but she makes the class enjoyable..she lets out early almost all of the time. She's very young, so she can relate to students and she grades very easy. Take Elder if you want an easy communication experience.

Mrs. Elder was a great teacher! She made public speaking fun and interesting. She was not so easy that you didn't have to study though. Her tests can be tricky--she wants you to apply the information she gives you in class. If you study the notes and pay attention in class though, this is a fun and easy A!

Charlotte was AWESOME!! She has been my favorite professor so far. I learned so much about speaking in her class. Your exams and final are take home and if you bring them in early she will look over them and help you out anywhere she sees problems. Since this class, I have become completely comfortable speaking in front of people.

Charlotte is the best professor I have had so far. She is just enough laid-back and she really cares about her students. She is very helpful. I hated public speaking, but after I had her I love it.

Mrs. Elder is a very laid back and personable teacher. She realizes that most students take this course as a gen ed requirement and therefore does not expect you to be a hardcore comm person. She does expect you to put forth effort into your speeches and OUTLINES! Her midterm and final are easy (take home - 10 essay questions) and the speeches are open topics. The class was not at all uncomfortable and you come away a little more knowledgable about public composure and speech.

Professor Elder is very young and she knows her stuff. However, she does not grade easily. You have to do the work if you want to have good results. Do not take this class if you don't want to put the effort into it.

Mrs. Elder is what you would call an okay teacher. She is real laid back at times but can be really moody.Yet she still creates a friendly enviroment in her class. But she does grade on speeches real tough. A class you'll have to work at to get an A

Mrs. Elder is a really nice lady and a good teacher, but that doesn't mean that her class is easy. You take a lot of notes everyday, but she makes it interesting. She is very passionate about what she teaches and she is very laid back. Her exams are all essay, but at least the midterm was take-home and open book. We do a fair amount of work in groups. Just hope that you get in a good group. Some major projects include 2 speeches you have to give to the whole class, a "group problem-solving discussion" in front of the class, and an informative group presentation in front of the class. She grades all of the above pretty roughly if you know what I mean. But you do learn a lot in her class and it would be pretty hard to get below a "B" or "C" if you came to class everyday, participated in all the group activities, spent a lot of time on the midterm exam, and gave 2 decent speeches.
