Don't be scared by the other evals here Glenn Prince is a great teacher who is very qualified and passionate about what he teaches. Many of the complaints about his favortism are unfounded, he may lean towards his debaters but that is only because he knows them ANY AND EVERY teacher tends to migrate towards students they have previously had in the class room. As for the slyabus changes, in the semester that I took his course this change was made due to and overwhelming request from the students to no longer do debates because they didn't like them. The material can be tough at times but Mr. Prince told the class that his door is always open to them as he is in his office almost constantly. The work is not that tough.. the papers are based on your opinion about current events so if you have a brain and an opinion you should be fine. He gives you lots of days off and he is a nice and funny guy. Take the class and apply yourself just a bit and you should be fine.

This message is from a GOOD student. A student who makes A's and is currently making an A in Professor Prince's class. Please, take my words with consideration in mind:
Prince is horrible at his job. His ego is bigger than he is. He talks more about himself than the subject matter. Also, he wears really tight clothes that are too small for him about every class session. No one is impressed. No one cares about the debate team, well except for Glenn and his cronies. For a debate instructor he doesn't make sense most of the time and he has a bit of a lisp. I heard they were going to fire him after this year. May the students of WKU hope and pray.

I love Glenn!!! Even though he is the debate coach for wku you, I loved the class. I hate giving speeches but he actually tries to give you speeches that you might actually some day have to give. I failed the last speech because i was just a few seconds short but i still recieved a B in the class so I was happy.

Glen is a great guy if you are willing to try hard and ask lots of questions. I was not on the debate team, and completely up front about the fact that I have no desire to do debate. But, I did a ton of research, worked well with my partner for the debates, and both of us tried hard.
Sometimes he is witchy in class. He does not tolerate "dumb" questions well, nor does he tolerate rudeness-like walking into class in the middle of someone's debate. And yes, sometimes he does completely lose you during lectures when he goes into debate jargon mode. However, he is willing to stop and explain himself, if a student is willing to ask. He does talk fast, apparently this is a quality of all debate people (if you actually watch a real debate, it is completely crazy the way they talk).
I think the keys to getting a good grade in this class are to do your research, take notes, and talk to him about things you don't understand. The people in my class who were on the debate team either had to debate each other, or could not debate us, just because they would have kicked our butts. When he (rarely) made a witchy comment about one of my questions, I just treated him the same, and he was okay with that.
I would not recommend taking this course just for the hello it, because it is very stressful and there is a lot of work involved. But if you have to take it, he is the only teacher for it at this time, so you are better off to find out how to treat him and get on with it.

Glenn is a great teacher. Pay attention and ASK questions. There is a lot of material he presents that may seem confusing at first and its better to clear up any misunderstanding immediately. (He uses debate jargon and I would get lost sometimes.) He is an understanding teacher if you do ask. But his patience will run out if you make up excuses. He knows every excuse in the book.
The textbook is 'required,' but I never used it because I took extremely good notes. I would recommend buying though. The final is a debate round. Its cumulative because you have to utilize all the information you've learned over the semester. It isn't too difficult if you pay attention and watch the tournament rounds he may give for extra credit.
He's also pretty open to office hours. All you have to do is write your name on his sheet.
We had an amazing class. And not all of us were on the team. Yet Glenn's amazing lectures made sure we had fun.

OK SO HE HAS ALOT OF BAD EVALUATIONS...BUT I REALLY LIKE HIM AND I'M NOT EVEN ON THE DEBATE TEAM...YOU DO HAVE TO WRITE THREE SPEECHES...BUT I HAVE HIS EIGHT O'CLOCK CLASS AND HE IS ONE OF THE ONLY TEACHERS THAT IS ENTERTAINING ENOUGH TO KEEP ME AWAKE...ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SHOW UP, WRITE THE NOTES AND LISTEN AND YOU'LL DO GOOD

Glenn Prince is a great proff. Realistically, a lot of people don't like him, but that's generally because they just don't get it. Lax admission requirements lead to mental midgets in all of our classrooms. Those mental midgets aren't going to like glenn. If you're a moron, don't take mr. prince. he's one of the most qualified people to teach debate in the whole country (if not the world). I wish he taught more courses so that I could take him again.

Arrogant and uninterested. This guy is NOT into teaching. He's what gives teachers a bad name. He should prolly stick to his debate team that he talks on and on about. Apparently if you are not on this debate team...you are stupid and will never meet his requirements that he has on his syllabus that makes no sense at all. Hes the only one that teaches this, which is crap. I don't want to tell you that this class is hopeless, but I will tell you that it sucks real bad. Bad teacher, bad book, bad grader, bad class. Also he talks so fast you can't understand him.

This course is bull. you have to take it if you are an english major and prince is the only one who teaches it. not only did he change our syllabus with 5 weeks left, but he made 98% of our other work moot. too bad though since he's the only one to teach it. i would say take someone else, but you can't. oh if you want a good grade join the debate team, he shows favoritism to them. that's probably the only way you'll get a decent grade in the class.

***This professor is absolutely insane, please, even if this course is required, do not take this course. Take it somewhere else and transfer it in.***
The good news is that you don't have to worry about showing up to class because he doesn't show up anyway. The bad news is, you have no chance of getting an "A" in the course unless you want to join the debate team and become a social dweeb.
First off, we started this semester doing debates (per the original syllabus) and then halfway through the course, he handed out a brand new syllabus (no debates on this one) even though over half of the class had either already done their debate or done the work for it. His original syllabus said nothing about his ability to change it at any time, but he did. Which, since the syllabus is a contract for the course, technically breaks his end of the original agreement and makes the entire class completely pointless. Thank you, Glenn Prince for taking my money and wiping your ass with it.
Moving on, the tests are impossible--even if you go exactly by the syllabus. One of the questions asked for a diagram of topicality, which is something we had covered in depth, but not in diagram form. So, if you didn't draw dumb little boxes around the parts of topicality, you missed half the points. The entire time I'm answering this question, I'm staring at the word "diagram" and thinking WTF? And, after the exam, I found out that the rest of the class was thinking the exact same thing.
And oh yeah, if he hands out a schedule, saying that certain days there will be no class, don't count on it. He's not doing you a favor by any means, because on one of the days that he had originally decided to cancel class, he decided to have it anyway, and made that the day to cover the Tuilman Model, which was 30% of the mid-term exam. So, anyone who had already made plans for that day inevitably had to figure it out for themselves.
What's more, on a few of the days that he missed, other people from the debate world came in and graded the debates that were given that day--which is completely unfair to the people that had to give them infront of him. He's a much harder grader than the other people he had come in; in retrospect, he should have had them record the debates so that it would be fair for everyone.
Oh, yeah, and he thinks that the problem with education in the United States is that teacher's have "been idiots for way too long." That's a quote, wrote that one down. Oh, and Be-Verbs are stupid and no one should ever use them, apparently. Although, I'd like to see Glenn Prince try to write progressively without one.

It's obvious that he knows tons about debate (he is a WKU debate coach and former competitor) but sometimes he doesn't relate this in-depth knowledge well to people who know nothing about debate. MAKE SURE YOU MEET YOUR TIME LIMITS ON YOUR DEBATES. He's a very likeable guy but this class caused me lots of stress. There is a ton of research that goes into preparing for your debate and you have to meet with your partner multiple times. Also, he is a very tough grader so make sure you know what you're doing before you turn in assignments. Lots of times he'll let you turn it in early to make sure it's correct before turning it in for a grade. I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone unless you have to have it for your major: otherwise it will only add unnecessary stress to your life :)
