She is a pretty good teacher, however she takes a while to e-mail back and is sometimes unorganized. I recommend printing the slides and taking them to class to add onto rather than write all the notes by hand. Study powerpoint slides for test

Dr. Nancy Rice is a great teacher and such a nice lady! She knows exactly what she is talking about and makes class entertaining. I actually enjoyed going to this class. However, it is a very difficult course which requires studying and the tests are quite hard. But if you study, do the homework on masteringbio.com, and show up to class you should be fine. I definitely recommend Dr. Rice.

Dr. Rice is an excellent professor in class but is hard to relate to out of class. She knows the material very well and uploads all of her powerpoints to Blackboard well before the lectures. Don't follow the powerpoints verbatim because she often uploads a different one than she uses in class. Overall, a interesting class and I learned a lot.

This class is hard. But Dr. Rice is a great teacher and if you take good notes and go through the reading assignments in the text, you will do well in this class. If you aren't willing to work, don't take the class. She can be difficult if you do something to make her mad, but if you show her respect she will return the favor. I would recommend this class because i learned a lot.

Dr. Rice is an alright professor, considering the difficulty of the subject. Molecular Cell Biology is a very detail specific course and Dr. Rice takes advantage of that. You REALLY have to know what you are talking about for her exams because there are roughly 25-30 multiple choice and the rest is short answer. The short answer really test your knowledge by asking you abstract questions over the exam material to the point where it gets ridiculous. She does post practice questions on blackboard along with the notes so that does alleviate some of the difficulty. Overall this is a somewhat difficult class as long as you really study before the exams. She expects you to memorize specific proteins, enzymes, etc...and to know how each of them effect each other during transcription/translation. Also, I bought the book for the class but did not look at it at all, so don't bother buying it....all questions come from the powerpoints that are used in class.

TAKE HER!!!!! She is a great professor! She can explain things very well, her tests come right from the notes and she provides a study guide with 1/2 of the exam questions on it! She also uses a clicker in class which helps out A LOT b/c she can see if the class understands and if the majority does not then she goes over the subject again! I plan to take whatever class she teaches!

Dr. Rice is easily one of the best Biology teachers that the department has. I don't know how the past students could post a bad review but they had to be 1) One of those students who really does nothing to to prepare for any kind of a test or 2) simply lazy and stupid. Her tests are somewhat challenging but if you just put a little effort into studying they will be a piece of cake. Dr. Rice requires every student to turn in a paper in the middle of the semester but it is very easy. She even gives a take home test. I meen what more could someone ask for in an upper level Biology class. I would definately recommend Dr. Rice. She is one of the kindest, most amazing professors that Western has.

she is a nice women sometimes, but dont get one her bad side(dont get up and leave class, make sure your cell phone is off, and if your late to class eaither A. dont go B. go but sit near the door) her tests are hard and the questions are overkill. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE RECEIPTS FROM THE ASSESSMENTS.

Dr. Rice is one of the best professors at Western. She isn't a difficult teacher. She just wants you to apply your knowledge and think. If you don't want to study then don't take this class. If you want to learn something interesting and put some effort into the class, you will enjoy this class.

Dr. Rice is my favorite professor at WKU. She is really good at explaining everything so it makes sense and you understand when you're learning it for the first time in class. I love the application questions she asks during class to make us think and use what we learned previously-they are helpful when learning the new stuff and help you see what kind of questions she will ask on the exam.
I've learned more in this class than most of my other classes and I've heard it helps to take this class before taking the MCAT...I wouldn't know though I'm not pre-med

Dr. Rice is one of my favorite biology profs. All the notes are power point and on blackboard. I recommend printing them out before hand and just filling in details. She presents the class in an easy to learn fashion as compared to most scattered profs. You have to study every detail for her tests, otherwise you'll pay for it on the tests. Something you think to be not important will likely end up being a short essay question on the test.
Her grading is pretty consistent but she really doesn't give partial credit. To get full credit on her essay questions you have to write everything down to the little detail.
One thing I will say about this class is I learned a lot. I learned so much in this class it has helped me in other biology classes as well. I recommend taking this class even if you don't have to, it will help you out tremendously.
Ask questions in class or after because Dr. Rice is very hard to get a hold of even during her office hours.

Dr. Rice does know a lot about Biology. She is a very smart woman who always knows what she is talking about. However, she is not a teacher who wants to know you on a personal level. She does not get to know her students and that is her major flaw. If you are a hard worker you will do fine, but never ask questions. She hates to answer them and it is sometimes embarassing. Overall, I learned a lot, but I really worked hard, and still made a B. This is a very good grade considering my classes average was a 48%...they were retards!

Dr. Rice is an awesome professor that doesn't just stand up there and bore you to death, but she tells you interesting things that are pertinent and applicable to everyday life. She's incredibly smart, and sometimes I think she believes we are all on her level, so she pushes you really hard. But it's only in your best interest. The class is interesting and informative...but I never knew there was so much that went on inside of a cell!

Rice is a very friendly person inside of class. However, her teaching is somewhat understandable, but her tests are not. They are all multiple choice and they do not strictly go along with notes of the class which are mostly extra knowledge and not important, they come from textbook references and other quizzes pertaining to the text. Tests are not returned and the final is cumulative. Homework is given and is easy.

Ok, so I am beginning to think that the honors section of this course is 100X harder than the regular one, judging by the comments. I am a junior with a 3.7 taking this class (yeah, i put it off while i got done with chemistry!) and I can tell you that it was HARD. I get straight A's in all biology classes and this one really tested my patience and willpower! She is EXTREMELY scatterbrained, she comes to class late almost every day, she posts the notes on the internet like 5 minutes before class so you can't get them beforehand, and her tests are RIDICULOUS!! I am going to put her test level difficulty rivaling that of Organic Chemistry. I realize Sahi can be hard to understand, but I would take him if I had to do it over again. P.S. She is a double major in biology and english, so you better know what you are doing for her term paper. Good Luck =)

Dr. Rice is a very nice person, but not that great of a teacher. All of the notes are on powerpoint and she hands them out in class. Her tests are not that bad if you study, but she makes it seem harder then it really is. The term paper put a lot of effort and start early, she grades hard, but is inconsistent among all the papers.
Not a very personable professor but knows what she is talking about. It is hard to ask a question because she either hands you a book or makes you restate the question ten times before she doesn't answer it.
Recommend taking if Sahi is the only other alternative.

This class wasn't bad at all. I really enjoyed it actually. She has all the main points on Powerpoint, and she gives you those at the beginning of class, so all you have to do is fill in. She's always ready to help if you need it, and answers any questions. She makes this class fun.

She's pretty scatterbrained, and sometimes easily confused when it comes to asking questions about the more complicated processes later in the class. She does let you drop you lowest test score and the final is 100pts of new material and 100 pts of cummulative. She has periodic quizes which aren't bad, and her test questionds are a toss up. There are old test floating around to help you out though.

I hated biology before this class. Dr. Rice is really nice and will answer any questions. The tests come straight from the content (all material is online and you can print it all out in the library) and we had a project due at the end consisting of a summary of ten biology articles throughout the semester (easy 100 pts.). The final was really easy... it comes straight from the old tests that you can print out at the end of the semester. You don't have to come to class, but I recommend it b/c its interesting and you are almost guarenteed a good grade (she also gives out extra credit questions/answers in class that will be on the test).

This was Dr. Rice's first semester teaching and at first she started out a little rough. As the semester went on she became more comfortable with the students. She's a very sweet person and I enjoyed her class. She's not too hard and not too difficult. I recommend her, (although right now she's the only one teaching it!)
