Ok...if you're looking for an easy gen ed class...run away. There is absolutely no structure in teaching this class. Dr. Keeling and Dr. Dizgun are great professors, but it is very difficult to study for this course. There's a good study guide they give you, but there are a few essay questions on the test and if you don't write EXACTLY what they want, you don't do all that well. If you say for example: "they went downstairs." their response would be: why? which way? in which building? what time? what was the weather outside? ETC. If you like a challenging class and you're actually doing Latin American Studies as a minor, this class is great. Just beware.

this is a very challenging course. him and dr. dizgun are good professors, but the tests are very difficult. only take this course if you are good at note taking and you attend every class. i enjoyed it, i just felt it was too difficult for a level 200 course.

The class was split up between three sections, but mostly is a tag-team between Dr. Keeling and Dr. Dizgun. Overall this class was enjoyable--especially if you're up for a good quick reference to something like Monty Python that not many people are going to catch. It must be said, however, that this is a difficult class, especially if you're not a history person. The main thing is just read, write, and listen. I would definately take another course from either of these teachers--they really know their stuff.

Very arrogant :( This isn't Harvard... classes this demanding should be reserved for earning your doctorate or for graduate students. Don't take this class for a Gen-Ed requirement. I understand that all classes should be challenging in order to gain anything from it... but THIS is almost ridiculous. I was taking 15 hours at the time-- BIG MISTAKE-- should have taken 6 hours w/ this one...

I took this class to fill a Gen Ed requirement......BIG MISTAKE! This class is lower level, and it is treated as if it is a 700 level if there was such a thing. Dr. Keeling will not try to help, and I tried to contact him regarding my grade and got a nasty response. I tried to retake the class, and stayed up all night long studying my ass off for the first test and failed it, oh, and by the way, I am a 3.5 to 4.0 student. PLEASE do not take this class!!

Dr. Keeling, who do you think you are? You think that just because you have traveled lots of different places and you have a Ph.D. you know more than your students! Don't you know that we are soooo much smarter than you will ever be? I can't believe Dr. Keeling made me actually take notes and read! I haven't had to do that since elementary school. I am paying for this degree, well the government is anyway, which means I should get what I paid for... a good grade. If you are expecting a good grade without learning the class material, you'd better not take this class. Dr. Keeling is a slave driver -- so is that other funny looking professor, John Dizgun. He expects hard work too. And the real kicker is that they are both damn foreigners! Keeling is from England (some strange country in Latin America) and Dizgun is from Canada (I think it is next to Iraq).

Has this guy ever heard of the phrase, "Hey teacher, leave us kids alone!" You need to go grab a cigar at any ole tobacco store to fly high because we're never going to die and we will make it if we try because they are going to love us!

3.5 GPA student, will likely make a low C high D in this course. Way too hard to 200 level, only take this course if you know Latin America like the back of your hand, have a semester filled with NOTHING, or have no life. Not recommended.

This class was more difficult than I thought it would be. He gives a study guide for each test and that helps a little, but on the essays you are just unsure about what he wants becaus they are so broad. The first two tests were essay, and the final was multiple choice. The final was much easier than the first two tests.

Dr. Keeling is a very intelligent professor. He has experience with all of the regions he discusses which gives him great credibility, versus other teachers who don't seem to have the real-life knowledge needed to successfully teach students. Unfotunately, his class was very difficult considering that it was an entry level course. I earned my first C in this course(my first grade below a B in 5 semesters/80 hours), missing 0 classes, and turning in all but one extra-credit opportunity. It is the first course I have actually enjoyed and worked hard in and still struggled through. I must restate that this course is taught more closely to that of a three or four hundred level course, and would be weary if you are concerned with your GPA.

I absolutely hated this class. This guy was a complete jerk to me. He singled me out to yell at me on two occasions. Once was for looking at my watch. It was extremely embarrassing and uncalled for. This class was hard for me b/c I was not interested in it at all. I found it hard to follow his lectures. All you do is take notes. There are 3 parts of this course and a diff. guy teaches it each time. Keeling was the jerk though. It seemed like an upperlevel class and he acted like you should be a genius when it comes to Latin America. I would not tell anyone to take this class b/c it was miserable.

Dr. Keeling is an excellent professor. His lectures are VERY important if you want to do well on the tests, but reading the book is the only way to ensure a good grade. He gives out study guides for tests, which aren't that difficult. Overall, I think it's an awesome class, and I am exceedingly glad that he taught my course.

The course is taught between three different professors, but my focus is on Dr. Keeling. He is the worst professor I have had thus far in college. Just glancing, the course seems fairly easy, with only multiple choice tests and all...but the amount of information you are expected to know is an overkill. You will have 10 question worksheets that will take a good two to three hours to complete...and then you find out at the end of the course they are only worth half of the credit you thought. I would never recommend this course to anyone. Dr. Keeling is a difficult man himself who is set in his ways and refuses to listen to reason. One extra credit assigment is given, a lecture, and if you are like myself (I had to work that day) he refuses to give an alternate assigment. He refused to meet with me to discuss my grade and was overall apathetic...a disgrace to teaching.

This course was split up between three different professors. One does the history part, another does the political part, and the third one does the cultural part. The class isn't too hard, just come to class every time or you'll miss something. But the tests are all multiple choice, not too hard if you study a little.

If you are looking for a challenging course to fulfill Category E Gen Ed I would highly recommend this class. I learned a great deal of information and Dr. Keeling is one of the best professors at WKU. However, it is not all easy. Be sure to do the reading and pay close attention to lectures- then it's easy. Great chances for extra credit!

I found this class to be very poor. Dr. Keeling is an awesome guy as well as Dr. Salisbury. However, UNLESS YOU LOVE HISTORY and GOVT. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It is too difficult for a 200 level class. I found this class to be more challenging and boring than statistics. Seriously, only take this if you take extremely good notes and attend EVERY class.

This class really is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Yes there is ALOT of math involved but if you go to class and get the formulas and don't put your projects off to the last minute, it really IS NOT THAT BAD!!! Dr Keeling is also very helpful and willing to meet outside of class to help you grasp the concepts, only if you don't procrastinate and wait until the day before a project is due to ask for help!

I have 4 weeks left in this class. So far i've made a 78 on the first test, a 88 on the second test, and good homework grades, and i've done extra credit. So i have a mid B average with another test to go. The class isnt that difficult, you just have to come every day!!. TAKE GOOOOOD notes. Make sure you write everything he says down...EVERYTHING! All of the questions will come from the notes. In the first section with Salisbury as the instructor, make sure you know the AUTHORS of the articles, and know about all of the generals he discusses!!! The second section with Keeling is easier. There are quite a few notes, but it is geography stuff, so if you pay attention and go over your notes, you will do well. We just started the final section, and it seems easy so far. JUst make sure you go over your notes or you won't do well at all.

This class is actually taught by three different instructors. The first section of the class is over Spanish and Latin American History, the second section is geography, and the third portion is over culture and government. The set up of the class makes the semester seem to go by faster.
Dr. Keeling is a very comical man, although his actual lectures are kind of boring. He does give you 60 points for attendence and 40 for turning in the homework assignments (out of 500 possible points). I would recommend this class ONLY to fill a general education requirement.

Dr. Keeling is one of the funniest teachers I have ever had. He has a lot of experience, having traveled around the world and can relate to particular subjects. He also is Austrailian, which I thought was cool... take the class- lots of fun!!! He really cares about his students. I got an F because I stopped going to class after a few weeks due to illness.

Not as hard as it sounds. If you attend class every time, then you will do well. Keeling is very willing to help with the projects outside of class time.
