If you want an A, get ready to work. Trafton requires the book, but I never read it. If you take good notes of her lectures, you won't need it either. That being said, be prepared to take rigorous notes. Her powerpoints are long, and what she says is important for the test. The major grades are three exams and two essays, so every grade counts. Write down basically everything she says and regurgitate on the Essay Exam and you should be fine.

If possible take another teacher. Trafton grades extremely hard, you will not get an A. I wrote and average of 6-7 pages for the essay tests and never got above an 88. She also tries to treat you like you are in high school by wasting time discussing things that everyone clearly knows.

Trafton is one of the hardest graders that I have ever seen. During the entire semester, I only saw 4 people get an A on any assignment. The class itself is not difficult, and I actually found the material very interesting. My only problem with her was the way that she graded. I was always the last one to finish my tests, and still never made an A, always an 89, even when quoting the textbook verbatim. The book is not necessary, you won't have any pop quizzes, and the best way to study for her tests is to look up all the terms on Wikipedia. I would only take this class if you're an English major that can write papers flawlessly, as she will be sure to point out any errors on it.

Dr. Trafton, is very sweet, nice, and is a great teacher. She makes history sound like a story, which was very helpful for me to understand. In this class, you take three map locations quizzes, which are over the European countries. She gives you 10 locations and if you study you will make 100% each time. There are three test, which are all essay. There are three parts of the test: 2- 20 point essays, and one 50 point essay. If you study very hard then you'll be fine. Also you have to write two primary analysis, which are alright. This class may seem boring, but overall it was a good class. I would advise you to take Dr. Trafton for History!

Prof Trafton's class was the class i dreaded going to more than any other one. its just a plain lecture class, but if someone talks about history for more than an hour, its going to be aweful. she gets really into it, attempting to make it interesting by putting it kinda in like story mode and such. You cant sleep, or mess with anything else but your pen and paper, or she will call you out. The exams are hard to study for because she gives you 4 study guides with atleast 20 things on each, but on the test, theres only three questions you have to answer, thoroughly. This class sucked

Mrs. Trafton is a wonderful teacher, but her class is very difficult. Your only grades are 3 exams and 2 Primary Source Analysis's. She grades pretty difficult. I have never received a B in a history/social studies class until her class. But her class was very enjoyable, be prepared to take 2-4 pages of notes per class. She allows up to 6 absences per semester. If your ready for a challenge then take Mrs. Trafton.

The class is only difficult because all of the exams are essay. You get 20 pt multi choice/ fill in the black which are usually things she re stresses on how to spell or specific names she constantly repeast. The essays are a 20 pt usually a minor but very important topic, the 50 pt is a choice of 2 major event in the time period like French Revoltion, etc.
She requires that you write a primary source analysis, which I highly recommend starting as soon as you get the documents and the keeping showing her your citations that way you dont get counted off.
The class is long, but her personality makes teh time fly by so fast!! :)

Ms. Trafton is a very nice lady who likes to keep up with the times, so to speak. Everyday when you walk into class, she would be playing music and it would vary from rap to country. She is very funny and she likes to talk. All of her notes are done through powerpoint, which is nice. Personally, I would read the chapters only because her tests are nothing but essays and it helps to have more information between her notes and the text. I recommend her and Ms. Trafton is willing to help you if you have any concerns.

Mrs. Trafton is an excellent teacher. U.E. is not hard, and i would recommend it for anyone who wats to learn about the university. We met at Java City, and DUC, and I learned things about the library I never knew. She doesn't give exams, but rather small quizzes over each topic. We had to buy Freakonomics, and read 3 chapters and quiz over each. Not hard, but boring. Overall, the class was easy, but only counts as 2 credit hours. Every freshman should consider taking it. Its a small class, and its an easy 2 credits.

Mrs. Trafton is a delightful lady who really loves to teach about history. The material is sketchy at times, but I suspect that this is mostly because the course calls for 5000 years of history while meeting only a few times a week. Studying notes will prove to help you on three exams. She loves visitors, so stop by multiple times and gab--she's fun to talk to and greatly enjoys the company.

All university experience courses seem to be pretty easy. This is no exception, though there are a few high school-like homework assignments that are hard in a twenty-minute-pain-I'd-rather-be-outside kind of way instead of a grueling, hours of work kind of way. Mrs. Trafton is an incredibly nice lady and a stellar instructor to take this type of course with. She's kind of like an awkward second mother...

DON"T TAKE HER CLASS! Mrs Trafton is a wonderful woman but a horrible professor! she gives pages and pages of notes everyday you come to class then she gives u a current event assignment that is Fu*&en hard! You have to find 5 articles then write a 6 pages narration about all 5 of them and then you have a map that goes with them. You also have map tests that are confusing. I guess if you study you will do fine but I suggest that you drink a case of red bull before you go into her class because she will talk the whole hour and twenty minutes and it will put you to sleep.

I like Mrs. Trafton's class. A lot of people wouldn't like it because you do take a lot of notes, but she is a very interesting person who knows a lot about history. She is willing to help you if you are having trouble, and I found her to be a good teacher. You take three tests. You can get by with a B in the class if you only study your notes. To get an A, you must read the book and provide knowledge from the book in your test. You write one paper in the class, a manuscripts assignment. It's not too bad. You do have to work to get an A, but isn't that what we are at college for? To earn our grades, not have them given them to us.

Mrs. Trafton is a very enthusiastic teacher, sweet lady, and you can tell she is very knowledgable in her field. As far as the class goes, I thought I would never make it through the semester alive. There were 3 total tests (including the final) and a 50 point current events assignment. You take pages upon pages of notes and she gives you no indication of the questions which will be on her essay only tests. So I would only recommend her class to people that enjoy studying their butts off for a B or C.

This class is never really an easy class considering no matter what you are going to have tons of notes. Also, Mrs. Trafton had 3 tests the whole year, with 3 essay questions each. These were fairly difficult as she expects you to know a lot, however it is much easier if you study hard, and if you come to class everyday. She says at the beginning of the year if you come to every class, and your grade is close to borderline she will bump you up, which I am sure she did for me. Nice lady.

Unless you are a history major steer clear of Trafton. I took AP US History and AP European History in high school and still had trouble in her class getting a B. Every class period you write constant notes for the entire time, she never cancels class, or stops early. We didn't cover the last 60 years in class and were still expected to know it for the test. The only girl that did good in her class was some stupid geek who typed her notes on a laptop. I am not a slacker, my GPA is a 3.8, w/ 90 hrs. complete. Trust me stay away from this teacher.

You do need to take a lot of note -- even though you can read from books. But from times to times--her notes is way more understandable and not so confuse. She know her stuff very well and make this class fun. Extra credit will be given during the test -- not a lot. Don't count on it. If you are looking for any prof. who will tell you exactly on the test, this is it. If she mention something more than 3 times or write it down on the board BIG --- it is definately on the test. Go to class -- that's all its matter I'm sure.

Okay, so as you see I do have this class marked as difficult. I'm not going to lie that the class is hard. BUT, all you have to do is take the overkill of notes, memorize them and then jot them down on the essay questions of the test that you are asked. Mrs. Trafton seems to think she is an English teacher when she is grading the essays (which is all her test consists of) and grades grammar harder than the information itself. She takes off points if you do not word a sentence exactly as she would, and lord forbid you leave out the word and. She has a current events assignment that she plays up to be easy. Well it took me about 6 hours total to do mine, and I still got a low B because of the wording of my sentences. She comes off as a nice lady, but makes up for it when she slaughters your essays. Mrs. Trafton gave a good lecture every day she taught. Depending on how many notes you took, it was a lot of info to absorb in one class. I took between 2 and 3 pages every time I was in there, and that was front and back. Her tests are straight essay with identification of map locations. 3 essays, 2 worth 20 pts, 1 worth 50 pts, and the map id. was 10 pts. She required one paper and 3 exams in total. She grades hard, but doesn't require exact dates-they just boost your grade. She cares about her students and is helpful if you need it and ask for it. Good teacher, tough class, but passable.

Her tests are very hard, considering most people have an average of 15 pages of notes and just 3 essays on each test. Ms. Trafton is a pretty nice lady... I guess. She is really snappy in class and her tests are hard. You take 40 some odd pages of notes and the test is made up of 3 essays. You have no clue what the essays are going to be so studying is awful. When you get the test back you realize how picky she is, I wrote 2 1/2 pages on one question and still points were taken off becuase I forgot the word "and" in the sentence or something. You only have 3 tests in this class, so if you don't do good on one then you are a gonner. She gives you study guides that are pretty much every single thing she says in class, so they don't help very much. We also has a current events assignment that isn't too bad, and may help your grade but not even enought to really count. I usually love history classes, but this is one I could barely stay awake in. While she gives your choices on what to write about, she expects ALOT from you. She grades pretty tough. Also, we had to do a manuscripts assignment. We had to go to the KY building to the Manuscripts room, and read letters from soldiers that they wrote to their families, and then write a paper on it. It's not fun, you spend about 5 hours in the library reading letters, and you can't copy them and take them home. So it SUCKS!

Dr. Trafon is a wonderful teacher to have. She gives out lecture notes over the course which makes studying for finals easy. Though, she is very particular over what she wants you to know from her. On her exams she has 2 short answers and the third question is long essay form. Plus, you have several choices over the questions and whatnot. She's a cool lady though. :)

Ms. Trafton is an awesome lady!!! She is a very kind person who gets really really excited about history. She is one of those people who will go the extra mile just to help you out. Plus the material is interesting you begin at Mesopotamia and go to the Birth of Christianity. Some days the material was boring but most days you were glad you came to class. Attendance is required but she will reward you. The text is mandatory and if you read it you'll probably get better grades on her exams which are all essays. Also she gives only three exams. So each one counts. There is also a current events project which is fairly simple and a lot of FUN!

I really liked Prof. Trafton. Her lectures were good. She told history in like a story frame to where they were understood, at least by me. She's very excited about teaching, she knows what she is doing and is always prepared. If you don't want to take a hard class, then don't take her, but I do suggest her, because she is really easy-going, friendly, and very helpful. Her tests are all essay and require about 3 days of studying, but in the end, it's not bad at all.

If you want to learn history as taught by someone who is ultra-happy and cheerful (but not annoyingly so), take Trafton. She seems absolutely delighted to be teaching.
You're going to take a lot of notes. Her lectures aren't the most exciting events to ever take place, but they aren't too bad. She expects you to participate every now and then. Attendance counts, and if you miss too much it hurts your grade. However, if you know you're going to miss a class and email her or tell her in advance, she might not hold it against you. And if you leave class early without telling her about it beforehand, she doesn't really like it.
Her test require some effort. Don't worry too much about some of the minor details, focus on the main points -- use a few of the minor details to spice up your answers to the essay questions. My personal approach to the essay questions is to spill your guts and tell all you know, and it works well for me.
Overall, I really like her even if I don't care too much for history. The class requires a moderate amount of effort... not too much to scare you off, but not so little that it's going to be a cakewalk. If you need any help from her, she seems delighted to help (you can call her at home as late as 10pm if you need to).

Mrs. Trafton really seems to enjoy teaching, which makes the class fun. This is a hard course, I went to every single class, took really good notes, and I barely am pulling off a B. The textbook is required, although I never took mine out of the plastic wrap:(... Good luck!

Enough of this crap! The problem with Mrs. Trafton's Freshman Seminar is not the teacher, it's STUDENTS WITH A ROTTEN ATTITUDE. You could tell from the beginning they didn't want to take the course, and you can still tell. A teacher who makes you work? POOR BABY! Why don't you just quit school and get a job? Then you won't have to work! Mrs. Trafton is great. She is the most energetic teacher I have this semester. Would you rather have someone who drones on in a monotone and puts you to sleep? I plan to take Western Civ with Mrs. Trafton. Mrs. T, YOU ROCK!!!!!

Mrs. Trafton takes Freshman Seminar to the extreme! She has always got something for her students to do and is always BEGGING for some feedback. She gives papers to do and essays to write and email assignments AND a journal, which she reads and makes comments on! If you can, avoid her at all costs!

This class is supposed to be somewhat easy, but with Trafton it's not!!!!! I dreaded the class because we always had something to do. There were 4 papers to write, a book to read, textbook reading, quizes on the textbook reading, and a bunch of other stuff that will never help me. If you have to take UC 101, don't take Trafton. She's perky no matter what time of the day it is and she is sarcastic and annoying. Take anyone else!

Mrs. Trafton is an excellent teacher. Where as most western civ teachers have all essay, her tests are made up of 10 map locations, 15 fill in the blank, 15 multiple choice, a short essay and a long essay. Though I said her class requires a book, it doesn't really. She trys to get you to read every day but her tests are pretty much all from her notes. I would have had an A easily in her class but I would always wait until the day before the test to study. She actually enjoys what she teaches and she cares that you do well in her class. Take Paula Trafton

Even though I didn't get a satisfactory grade, I believe that Ms. Trafton is a very good professor. She begins the class by giving out study guides so that we will be able to follow her lecture, which is usually lengthy. However, her exams are rather long, and she doesn't allow a whole lot of extra time after the class if you can't finish. On the class meeting before the exam, she gives the map section of the exam, then on the next meeting, she gives the exam which consists of Fill in the Blank, Multiple Choice, and two essay questions. She generally wants lengthy essays, so be prepared to give them.

This class was terrible. You have to brown nose to get a passing grade. After an exam, go to her office and argue with her, she likes it and will give you a point or two on the test. She really stinks as a teacher. She doesn't like it when students use contractions so don't. She is evil devil spawn. Run far, far away.

She loves history and makes it interesting to learn. She teaches it in a manner that is very understanding. You have three tests which are basically your grade, including a 50pt manuscript assignment. The tests are very straightforward; easy to achieve an A. She will even give you extra points if you miss few or no classes.

Mrs. Trafton is a good teacher, but her tests are very hard. She is very picky about her essays and it is almost im-

I suggest someone look for another professor before signing up for this class, but if all else fails~ just be prepared to study. At least she can be interesting during her lectures, but unfortunatly that is not what you're primarily tested on. Her study guides are just every highlighted term, place, event, and name in the chapter of your book, so be sure to buy one!!!
