Dr. Bretz seems like a genuinely nice guy, however I don't think that translates into his teaching. He seems to know a lot about it but doesn't convey it very well. Has got an odd sense of humor and is slightly boring. The book will help you more with the labs than he does. I didn't even listen to his lectures in his class, I just followed along in the book.

This is hands down the easiest class that I have had at WKU. Attendance is not required; he doesn't really teach, he just sits at his desk while you do the projects yourself by looking at the book. You have to be there for labs and tests, but otherwise you can do the lessons from home. Ridiculously easy A if you have just a little bit of computer experience.

Take this class if you want an easy elective. Dr. Bretz is cool, and the tests are cake. The practice problems are used word for word on the tests, which makes it easy to study. And the work is pretty easy if you have basic computer knowledge. I got 100% on the tests just by going through the practice problems until i got them all right (took about 20 minutes). Take this class for an easy A.

Dr. Bretz is a nice guy, although, having known how to create and design webpages for years, I am unsure that Bretz really knows a lot about webpage design. The class is self-paced and usually there is a lab due each week and a quiz. The labs are easy, they are outlined step-by-step in the textbook. Just follow the directions and do what he asks. The quizzes and tests are easy if you just read the chapter questions that he posts on ecourses. Simply memorize the answers, because they are the exact questions that will be on your quiz/test. Attendance is only required when there is a quiz or a test, or to turn in a lab (unless you email it to him). Very easy class, I recommend him. I wish all of the CIS professors would post the quiz/test questions for us to know ahead of time =)

I found this class very fun. You mainly got to learn how to create websites by using Dreamweaver. The book for the class shows you step by step how to create a website and is very easy to understand. The exams are super easy. They come straight from the study guides that he gives you. So as long as you look over the study guides a few times you'll get an A. The quizes on almost every Friday are either assignments from the book which shows you exactly how to do it or they are from questions that he posts on blackboard. Dr. B is also very understanding and grades fairly. I would recommend this class to anyone who is interested in learning how to create websites.

Really thought Dr. Bretz was a nice guy and was helpful to students' problems, at least in my dealings with him. Pretty much an independent class. Still, the class was also interesting and one of my easiest this semester. Pretty much everything is done in class. The practice quizzes he puts out are almost verbatim like the lab grades, which are mostly short quizzes, and tests. If you just look over the right answers you can get a pretty good grade. Not sure about extra credit, but there are chances to redo stuff. Developing the pages can actually be fun. The main issue to address is the rather strict grading: just make sure to have a good test/quiz average because the total points for the class do not matter. Generally, your lowest average of the componets is your final grade. It is possible to be suprised by your final grade. Be careful about this. But, CIS minor or not, a nice class.

I did not like this teacher. The class is set up with like 6 or 7 tests over windows programs. You learn how to work with the programs by taking quizzes and lessons on the computer. The teacher does nothing. If you need help, don't ask him. He acted like he was too good to even stand there. I got A's on all the test and then there are 2 projects that you have to do in order to get an A or a B in the class. The first one I did and I got an A on it. The second one I didn't understand how to do so well and he refused to offer any advice. It was really hard. I still did it and completed all the requirements. He gave me a zero on it and said that it was done incorrectly. I followed all of his instructions and it didn't work. I got a B in the class because of it. All those A's and because I didn't do the last one to suit I got marked down a whole letter grade. I asked him why and he wanted me to "come see him in his office alone and talk about it face to face, instead of through e-mail" yeah right asshole! My friend took the class the next semester and copied all my work and got an A. I was pissed.

This class sucked! You have 6 tests and they are all easy, then you have to do these 2 projects at the end of the semester and they are horrible, If you do not do a perfect job on them you will not get credit. I have a 98.6 going in to the projects and ended up with a C in the course.

Fridays are a required day to come. We have lab quizzes. I had him before and really didn't care for him. I had to take him for this class. He was the only one teaching. He is nice otherwise. Me and him just didn't get a long to well.

The tests you take are all on the computer. If you have time to copy the review questions and find the answers to the questions in your book, you will do fine. But the review questions are numerous and the tests are normally over three chapters. Dr. Bretz stays at his computer for the entire class while you take the tests and do the work modules for class. You are very much on your own in this class but don't procrastinate your modules and study for your tests and you will do fine.

Show up for class for the tests (two chances on each) and enough times to complete nine activities on the computer. Pretty easy stuff. Tests have nothing to do with what you've done in class - Test material comes from the book (which is online). Average a 75 on all of your tests, complete all of your modules on time, and you'll get an easy A in the class!
