Additional Comments
Dr. Amaral is awesome! Many assume that he would be hard to understand, because of his dialect but that is not the case at all! He's got a great sense of humor. I work third shift and then go to class, so it would be very easy for me to fall asleep, but he keeps you entertained and interested in the material. He posts all of his lecture notes online so that you may view them via your computer in class or you can print them off to bring to class. He sticks to his powerpoints for test questions so the book is needed for your lab more than anything. He does not take attendance, but you do have "Clicker" questions each class. They total about a hundred throughout the semester and he drops 1/5 of them so you are able to miss 2-3 days without any penalty. You really need your notes though, because ALL clicker questions come from his notes and are printed clearly. All you have to do is read the particular slide and select the correct answer. Now onto the important stuff...his exams. There are four exams and a Cumulative final. The four lecture exams are held online and you can take them from any computer, whether on campus or at home. The even more wonderful part? Dr. Amaral believes that you learn from repetition, so you are allowed to retake the exam as many times as you like in a 3 day time period. He encourages you to take the exam and write down the questions because each exam will be 1/4 of the cumulative final. He continues to encourage you to take the exams until you make a perfect 100. As for the final, it is a 100 point scantron exam and it is held in the actual classroom. Many people recommend Dr. Mason for this course. I have him currently as my lab instructor. I love Dr. Mason as well, but he grades very harshly. If you want to guarantee yourself an "A" in your lecture, I would take Dr. Amaral.
