I personallly didnt like this class. The teacher to me was scatterbrained and half the stuff in the notes wasnt on the tests. He gives you 5 essays that could possibly be on the test beforehand and he'll pick one so you have time to look at them before the test. Other than that you have to take notes yourself, he just gives you a little outline to go by.

Mr Antony is very nice, and he is very into History. Almost all of my friends faild, but he is easy participate in class, take notes, show up for class because after 4 absents he takes points off from your grade, try not to fall asleep because it will be very hard not to, take all NOTES, study the essays all of them, write them out. and study with smart kids. he gave us 10 points extra credit. you dont really need the book.(its usless to get one. explain your essays really well because he grades really hard on those and you should be good. he gives you 5 essays that you study, but you dont know which one is going to be on the test untill you take the test. hes really nice . talk to him after class if you find your self doing bad and he will help you out.

This class was one of my favorites and Dr. Antony is a wonderful professor! If you get the chance, definitely take this class! He's not the "hippest" (as described in another evaluation) he's a good guy, and if you ever have a problem in the class he's very easy to talk to. The only big deal in the class is the group presentation that is worth a big chunk of your final grade, but it's not that bad. He gives a study guide which helps out a lot!!!

Antony is a fabulous teacher. I'm taking him next semester for 460, and expect to enjoy it very much. His lectures are always pertinent to the subject, wether he tests you on the knowledge or not, and it's a great class to learn in, not just vomit rote memorization onto a blue book. Take him if you're serious about the subject, and with a 400 level class, you probably are.

I would not reccommend Prof. Antony as a Western Civ. teacher... This class is very difficult and you do not need a professor that does not make any sense on top of a hard class.. I went to every class and took many pages of notes and still could not get higher than a C on the tests. You will be able to do an extra credit project for 10 extra points... that isn't too bad... His test consists of 25 multiple choice questions (worth 50 points) and one essay (worth 50 points). One week before the test, he will give you 5 possible essays so that you can study them and on the day of the test he will give you one of them. I would definitely suggest getting with other people and studying just because you might get info that you didn't hear during his lecture in class... he will put a powerpoint up on the board but if you don't add your own info from his lecture, you will be screwed on the test... I still have no idea where he comes up with his multiple choice questions and I knew all of the notes and read the chapters in the book....? Hope this helps...

Great teacher. Little bit of a weird accent but overall easy to understand. He gives you 5 essay options about a week before the test and he'll randomly pick one of the 5 for the test. If you study the essays you'll pass that part of the test just fine. As for the multiple choice, good luck! Nowhere near as hard as other Hist119 classes though.

If you take good notes and study them well then this class is easy. The exam is always the same...25 multiple choice questions (over about 20 pages of notes) and an essay (which he gives you beforehand). He lectures the entire time, but I recommend this teacher. All history classes are pretty much the same, but if you are looking for a reasonable, down to earth teacher, this is your guy.

Dr. Antony is a great prof, very laid back. He is interesting and really enjoys talking about his travels to Asia. The class debate we had on Chinese philosophies was GREAT. He's an easy grader and he actually gets through all the material on the syllabus even though we ended class early each week (we were a night class). Two essay exams, two papers, two discussion assignments, web portfolio. Awesome class.

If you have to take Western civ. i would def. recommend him. the text book is not required so he likes to give a lot of notes. the tests are all multiple choice and one essay, which he give you 5 possible options a week in advance. if you study really well for each test, youll be fine. he give 10 points of extra credit once during the semester.

Dr. Antony can come across as a bit scattered and distant but he is a nice guy and this is his area of interest, making him rather knowledgeable. To some he may seem a bit dry but if you have interest in this area of study it will prove interesting. The subject matter is China and Japan, more so than any other Asian nations. The difficulty of this course is in the low moderate range. There is a group presentation which counts as a part of particiaption grade; most groups tended to go a bit long but probably got decent grades. 50% of the grade is from two tests with 5 of 6 ID's and 1 essay, both form a study guide he hands out. He does not grade the tests very hard. His lectures are often enough for the tests; most of the time you dont need the main textbook. Smaller books are read too, but they are just discussed and often you dont have to read them closely. The other 25% is from a 5 page book report. The pick-a-prof stats say he has a 2.44 overall GPA in his classes, but for 461 it jumps to 2.85, with about 75% getting an A or a B.
I spent some time with Dr. Antony at a social gathering; he might not seem to be the hippest guy but he still is nice. This is a fairly good way to fulfill the world area category for history.

I LOVED THIS CLASS! Dr. Antony is an awesome professor and I'd recommend him to anyone seeking upper-division history credit and especially in this course. Dr. Antony is very passionate about his subject and that makes his lectures refreshing and interesting. The notes are way overkill, though, so if you don't like taking a lot of them don't even bother taking this class. A typical night of notetaking for me (since this was a Wednesday night class) was about five pages front and back BUT if you take great notes then your exam preparation will be easy. Dr. Antony makes sure to pass out a study guide filled with some ID's and two essay choices that will come up on the next exam and believe me when I tell you that his ID's are a helluva lot less than some of the other instructors in the history department (we're talking like 15 versus 38 and above for other classes).
The grade breakdown goes as follows: two exams (midterm and a final) worth 50% of your grade where you are presented with six ID's and you choose five to answer (usually filling up a whole blue book page for each term is recommended) and you answer one essay that Dr. Antony chooses from the study guide to put on the test, you also have to write two papers worth 12.5% each of your grade on two of the four books you have to read in the class, and the other 25% of your grade is class participation on the discussions of four books you have to read (here they are: Japanese Inn, Makiko's Diary, Runaway Horses, and Haruko's World). Above all else, though, I'd urge people to stick with this class after they sign up for it. It might appear tough at first but he's just weeding people out and after the fourth week or so things get really fun.
I feel as if this class helped me gain a greater appreciation for Japanese history and believe me, you don't have to know ANYTHING about Japan before taking this class (I didn't) to do well. Take this class if your a history/social studies major before you leave WKU, you won't regret it!

As long as you come to class and take notes, you'll get an A. |t's nice to have the book to add more information to your essays, but, since he only takes 1-2 questions from the text, don't read the assignments. He's a nice guy & gives you plenty of extra credit options. It's definitely a 100 level lecture class: only 3 tests, lots of notes, and you won't get to know him. Easy, though.

Antony is a great teacher. He is entusiastic with his lectures and he keeps your attention. There is 3 tests in this class and a 10 point extra credit available. The tests are composed of 1 essay (he gives you 5 essays a week before test and one of them will be on the test) and 25 mult. choice. The tests come directly from his lectures so, as long as you pay attention, come to class, take good notes, and study really good before the test, you should do fine. I have not read a single chapter in the textbook and I have an A so, his lectures are important to pay attention to, which isn't difficlut since he makes them interesting. Some people in my class are not doing well but, they admit to not studying and not paying attention in class so remember those are important. Overall, I would recommend him because he actually makes history interesting!

This is the easiest class I've ever had, thanks to Antony. He knows his stuff well, but has a way of making the class interesting, even at 9am. There are two tests--a midterm and a final, which is NON-cumulative. This semester he also put in two quizzes for a total of 300 possible points in the class. He offered 10 extra credit points on top of your whole grade, which was enough to raise most people a letter grade. Attendance is mandatory but all you have to do is show up, seriously. I learned a lot from him. Too bad I'm a science major and won't take any more history, or else I'd take Antony.

He is the best history professor you will ever have. He does have a lot of notes, but that is because the textbook is not required. He wants to make sure you understand everythig he is talking about. He explains everything and the best part is "He gives you the essay questions before the test" that way you know what to study. STRONGLY RECOMENDED

Antony is a huge history buff. He is zealous with his lectures. Though, the questions on his tests and quizzes are sometimes random matters that don't seem appropriate to the subjects. Be ready for tons of notes-- personally, I sometimes write nearly every word that comes out of his mouth just in case it will be on the test. The semester is split up into quiz, test, quiz, test. Also, there is a chance for extra credit. All and all, the class is OK.

Professor Antony, was a good teacher, what I mean is that he is interesting. But he sort of reads off of his notes a lot. There are only 3 tests, 25 multiple choice and one essay that is worth 50 points. He does give partial credit, but you cannot b.s. your way through the essays. He gives you 5 possible essay questions that MIGHT be on the test, but only gives you one of them on the actual test. You have to find the answers yourself. I did not do well in this course because there were only three tests, and i am not a good test taker. He won't tell you which are possible subjects for the multiple choice, so make sure you study everything well and are very thorough. I didn't do well on multiple choice; I never seemed to study the right stuff. Make sure you also go to class, because he takes off when you aren't there.

History is by far not my favorite subject, but for some reason, I really liked his class. I had it on tues and thursday, and it was an hour and fifteen of straight lecture and continuous writing, but it'n not all that bad. He gives you an outline of the lecture which really helps. The only grades come from three tests, which make it really stressful, but the tests are not that hard. They consist of an exam and multiple choice. But, he gives you five possible essay questions the class meeting before the test, which really helps.I would recommend him :)

Very enthusiastic about the subject. He required a small textbook and four other books of which we were required to write three to four pages of analysis for each book. You must read the books because you discuss them in class. Participation is very important as it is 25% of your grade. Articles are also required reading which he has on reserve at the library. Very interesting and informative class. Would recommend him highly for this class.
