I'm sure Maddox is a smart man, but I was rather bored in this class. I didn't go half of the time to be honest. His classes are just him going over powerpoints (all of which he posts online.) All the homework is done online, there are maybe four tests, and a mandatory cumulative final. I had to make up a test, and he was very personal and great one-on-one. He was always very patient and willing to answer even the dumbest questions in class. He's a nice guy, and if you had a good chem (especially like an AP chem) in high school, you'll do great. ...But seriously, do the homework.

This guy makes the class a lot harder than it has to be. I got a B in there yet I put in an A effort. If you are good at chemistry and have some knowledge then take him. He gives power point slides on Black Board, but that is the only thing he uses BB for. He teaches like everyone already knows what the hell he is talking about, and Just like the review before me, if you go to his office he actually teaches amazingly, but in class he is a terrible teacher. The OWL homework is not hard but he assigns a lot of it, and it does NOT help on the tests at all. He rewords them so it gets confusing on the tests. I recommend studying the problems he puts on the Power Point slides for the test. If you can avoid him then I recommend doing so, this class should have been an A, but again he teaches it like a monkey would.

First this is an INTRO course. So most students have NEVER had any chemistry before. Dr. Maddox is a P-Chem instructor and this was only his 2nd Semester teaching Chem 116. He does not know how to teach in a class environment. He reads directly off his PowerPoints. OWL online homework is not helpful because he does not word his questions anything like OWL does. When I went to his office for assistance he was very helpful. If he taught the way he does when you are in his office the course would have been much more enjoyable and LESS Stressful. Not everyone has time during his office hours for additional assistance. He assumes everyone has had Chemistry before. (obviously if you are in 116 this is your 1st College Chemistry Class!!) He made this class much more difficult than necessary. He just needs to talk down at a student level and not a Professor talking to other Professors. He is a super nice guy but not a very good instructor. If you have never been exposed to Chemistry before I would suggest Dr. Burris. (Stay away from Pesterfield as well)
