I absolutely love this class, and Blackburn as a teacher. I'm not really good at geography but he goes at a good, slow pace and really knows what he is talking about! there are quizzes after each chapter but really if you come to class and pay attention to the stuff he points out, the quizzes are pretty easy and stuff you are not sure of you can reason out. I'm in this class right now and i'm so glad i took it! you do need to get the book, he sometimes takes stuff for the test from there but overall, i'm having a very good experience with this class! i HIGHLY recommend this class!

Blackburn is super entertaining to listen to and i have attended all lectures, however this class is very reading intensive and there is a greatttt attention to detail concerning dates, pop. numbers, maps, ect.
Your grade is based off your performance on 3 tests (each worth 100 apiece) and the average of your pop quiz grades (100 points cumulative)
Ps this is by first college B and I have recieved A's in honors courses

This class was required for my major at WKU. I thought that it would be an easy class, since it is just 100 level and an intro class, but I was completely wrong. This class ended up being extremely difficult. I had to outline every chapter and studied for hours and hours for each chapter quiz and test. I learned a lot in the class, but I would not suggest taking this class unless you are really willing to work and put in the time required. I am an Honors student and it still took an exorbitant amount of time. He is a really hard teacher (a little too hard) and the class is too difficult for a 100 level class.

Professor Blackburn is a good instructor. His course is very difficult and you will have to really be on your game during each class meeting if you hope to understand the material. There are weekly quizzes and the exams are anywhere from 65-75 questions each. You really have a lot of information to take in and I won't sugar coat it and say it is easy because its not. You will earn everything you get in this class. Professor Blackburn overall is a good in class teacher and keeps it interesting and laid back. He is more than willing to go over material again if you will just speak up and ask. If you take the course be ready to work.

I took Professor Blackburn thinking okay the Profevals weren't so bad, I was wrong. I think he is a total jerk and he makes a silly 100 level course at Western impossible to pass. He got annoyed with our class and gave us 2 days to study the whole map of Europe including; countries, cities, capitals, lakes, rivers, landforms. To make things worse the test was fill in the blank and spelling counted. It was complete crap so I dropped it and I would not recommend him to anyone. On the first exam the class average was a 65%. He makes things impossible for college students. Take any other teacher but him.

Blackburn is an alright teacher, but it all depends on how you take him. He is a wise guy and he takes best to people who are smart right back to him and not submissive. He lectures a lot so all of your notes will come from what he says. He doesn't write anything down on the board for you to copy, maybe just a few pictures sometimes. His tests are easy and there are about 4 assignments due toward the beginning of the semester. They are easy, but the research paper sucks to write because it is 10 pages long. He doesn't like to reply to emails so if you are a control freak, he may irk you at times. It's an easy class, but the professor may rub you the wrong way.

As long as you go to class, take notes, and read the book, you'll be fine. Mr. Blackburn tries to make class fun. We had a few quizzes before each test which were pretty easy as long as you read over your notes a few times. Mr. Blackburn is a really nice guy, and is willing to help if you need it.

Blackburn is a really good teacher, he knows his subject and he is really sarcastic so the lectures are never boring. Only thing is, you must read the book to pass the tests and quizzes, but the book gives you practice tests on the web that will help you study.

Mr. Blackburn is a really nice guy, and is easy to get along with. He uses power point for the notes, which he blazes through. You have to continuously tell him to slow down, and move out of the way of the screen/board. He gives quizzes throughout the semester that are worth 20 points each (each quiz has 20 questions on it -- multiple choice with a few T/F), and he drops your lowest quiz score. There are three exams (includes the final). These are mostly multiple choice with a few T/F, and there is a map where you have to label countries, major cities, landforms, and regions. These test are pretty hard. When I had him, on the first test, the class average was 66%. You will have to read every chapter thouroghly (and they are long chapters). You will spend most of the class trying to copy down the power point notes before he clicks to the next screen because he refuses to post his notes on Blackboard, or give you a copy of them. If you are dedicated to studying then you will do fine, but you can't wing it in this class. Expect to memorize lots of information. He is a good teacher, but he expects you to study and really know the material.

mr. Blackburn is a nice professor. But the class is not all that great. He covers a lot of material and likes to test over 4 to 5 chapters at once. When you take the tests, the questions are always stuff you would overlook when studying. If you dont like to study, I do not recommend him. But if you absolutely like to study, and take large info test, then this is the man for you!

Blackburn is a good teacher. You must take notes and read the book in order to pass the class. I took him in summer term. He made it easy to past just pay attention. He gives you 5 unexcused absenses. But 4th takes points away. However thats not bad in a 5 week class. I think u will like him and his class.
