Mr. Cary is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. What he lectures about in class is mostly irrelevant when it comes time for the test. Most of the test material comes straight from the book and probably won't be covered in class. So it is very important to read the book. The best help I found was using the textbook's companion site (which you will have to Google because he doesn't tell you that there is a website) and studying vocabulary/taking quizzes from there. I still didn't do very well on my tests though; the only reason I pulled off a C was because of the map quizzes and paper.
