Dr. Poole is a great teacher. I took his class during winter semester and really enjoyed it. The tests aren't too difficult but you still need to study. He makes quite a lot of jokes and makes the class quite fun to take. I would definitely recommend him as a professor.

Mr. Poole is an excellent professor! He's probably one of the best I've had since I've been at Western. English isn't the most exciting subject, but he makes it fun with his sense of humor. There wasn't a day of class when I didn't laugh! If you get the chance, take Poole for English 302!

Dr. Poole is an EXCELLENT teacher who is very passionate about ESL and ELL kiddos. He has deeply held beliefs about teaching English and is not shy about sharing his opinions. His tests are reviewed before given almost word for word and he has handouts that you'll need to take notes on. There's homework which he doesn't take up until the end of the semester but I wouldn't wait till then to do it. He's easy to approach and loves open discussion. He can make boring grammar topics funny.

I loved Dr. Poole. His class was very easy!!! Attendance isn't required but I recommend going because a lot of times he passes out worksheets in class that you will need . He likes to make a lot of jokes and tell random stories which make the class more fun. He tells you exactly what are on the tests so if you study at the very least an hour, you will do fine. I thought grammar would be really difficult, but it has been super easy, I have gotten an A on every test. I also recommend speaking up in class, he likes that.

Dr. Poole is awesome, really down to earth.. if you do the assignments he really helps you out and grades easy. He just can't stand people that don't come to class/write the papers, and expect to pass. There are no tests, only one 10 page research paper due at the end of the semester, and a few papers (small) leading up to it. The class is not bad at all! But he's hillarious I would definitely recommend taking it from him!

This class has dry material, but Dr. Poole does his best to make it fun! He is a really nice guy! Dr. Poole's tests can be hard, hence why going to class is extremely important. You have to study to do well in this class.

Dr. Poole is a great guy and very knowledgeable about grammar. As a future English teacher, I found this information to be extremely useful. Grammar can be boring, which makes the class boring sometimes but Dr. Poole always has a funny story to make class interesting. He prints out the notes for you for each chapter and tells you what is going to be on the test. There are three tests and then the final. There are no papers or essays. The information learned in this class are very relevant to the teaching profession.

Mr. Poole makes this a fun and interesting class! He is funny and helpful. It is mostly lecture, but not boring. He has notes already prepared for you so that you can follow along with the lecture. If you pay attention in class and study for tests this is not a difficult class. I am not very good at grammar, but he is really helpful, and I am now more confident in my grammatical skills. I really enjoyed having Mr. Poole as my teacher!

Mr. Poole is a nice man. He is really smart and likes to lecture. He mostly talks during the class time. You do some group work but not a lot. He test are short but hard. His test are mostly your grades and you turn in all your homework at the end of the semester. He takes attendance the first few classes but then quits. He is a good teacher. Take him if you can.

Dr. Poole is one of the best instructors I have ever had. He explains things very well and no matter what other students on here say he does a great job. The ones that do not like him apparantly do not like to do their work or study. It is difficult, but if you study and ask questions you will do fine. It is a class that will actually challenge you. I recommend taking him because it is a class in which you will actually learn something.

I loved this class! A lot of people didn't like it because they didn't do well on the tests, but if you studied, the tests were easy. Dr. Poole gives you a study guide before every test. If you study what's on the study guide, then you will do great on the tests. I'm a horrible test taker, and I got a 100 on 3 of the 4 tests. It is also very evident that he is passionate about what he is doing. He is a great teacher, in my opinion, and I would take him again for another class if I could.

He is not very merciful. Ok, he's not merciful at all. He does NOT round ANYTHING, which is annoying. His tests are rough because he give NO partial credit and questions will have multiple parts. All in all, you should take someone else if you can.

Dr. Poole is really a nice guy. He knows his stuff and he really wants you to learn it too. I recommend taking him if you are a student who keeps up with his/her work. I recommend reading the chapters he assigns and doing your homework on time. That way, you can ask Dr. Poole if you have questions. He is ALWAYS willing to help if you come to his office during office hours and I would definitely do that because I think that if he sees that you are taking initiative, he might be more lenient on you. The tests are slightly difficult, but he does give you a study guide. If you have trouble doing readings and assigned homework for other classes, you might want to hold out for an opening in Eckard's class.

Dr. Poole is a nice enough guy, but he doesn't do a very good job of explaining things. I've always thought I was great at grammar, but he confused the heck out of me in the first few weeks of class. I almost dropped it because I did terribly on the first test, but the rest were much easier and I pulled my grade up to a B without any trouble. There are 2 books for this class, but one of them is completely irrelevent...we never opened it. Save your money, only buy the black book. And if you don't understand his explanations, ask him over and over until he makes sense.

Aren't all grammer courses difficult? Yes this was a hard class for me but not because of Dr. Poole. He has a kind side to him with some dry humor, but is a fare teacher. He is willing to help in any way he can. Dr. Poole does understand that grammer is not on everyones top of the list as excitment and tryies to work with that, even at an 8am class.
Take Dr. Poole, he is not that bad!!

My grade doesn't properly reflect my overall understanding of grammar because the format of the tests and the grading scale was a disaster. Everyone failed the first exam, though we all felt prepared. No one made over a 50%. The whole class is made up of 100points and each test is worth 22.5 points so each point you miss comes off your final grade. The first test was impossible and eventually he changed his teaching style and test format but the point system still made it hard. He did not offer any extra credit or way to make up the first test's points so basically you are screwed after that unless you make an A on every test. I made good grades on the last three test but my grade was still a C. Basically, if you are excellent at grammar this class is a good class. Dr. Poole has a great personality and interesting stories but that doesn't help you get a good grade. I highly recommend not taking this course with Dr. Poole unless you can do perfect work on every test.

Dr. Poole thinks that he is all big and bad because he is a doctor now but he is the worst teacher that I have ever taken. He thinks that he knows everything and treats students like we are idiots. I will not be taking any of his courses ever again. I strongly suggest that he be fired.

Mr. Poole was a fabulous professor. He got to know his students, he was extremely friendly, and he was reasonable. Though there may be quite a few essays and papers, all they require is effort. If you put time and effort into this course, you will come out a stronger writer and with an open mind on current issues. When I had the class, 5 tardies=5 pts off the final grade, and 5 absences=10 pts off the final grade. This was an awesome class.

Dr. Poole is the greatest English teacher I have ever had in my life. He teaches a specific format that most writers should already know, and if you follow it... you'll receive an A on every assignment/paper. He's also very funny, in his own way. Very interesting class.

This was the most impossible class that I have ever taken at Western. Dr. Poole has no idea what he is talking about most of the time and then gives awful tests about material that nobody knows about. His class is only worth 100 points therefore every single point that he takes off is counted off of your FINAL grade. He is not helpful at all and he makes you feel stupid. I will never take this teacher ever again. I have heard that he was easier in semesters before but whatever he has done, he needs to get over it and come back to earth.

Alex is a wonderful teacher if you can sift through his odd personality. He is very knowledgable in his field, yet he lacks the ability to convey these ideas to the students. I did not have a final and his class consisted of writting papers, reading short stories, and taking a few pop quizes. There were no tests. I reccomend him as a teacher, just take him with a grain of salt.
