I thought the class was super easy, but the teacher is a psycho. The first day she imitated an orgasm in class. And from then on she seemed obsessed with sex. It was weird. She also picked favorites, and if you get on her bad side...watch out. I have never had so little respect for a teacher in my life. She made me hate the english language.

This class wasn't overly difficult, but you do have to work for your grade. Attendance is very important to Ms. Bates, so be sure you don't miss class very often. Do what she tells you to do and read what she tells you to read, and you will be fine. She loves to give pop quizzes, so always be prepared for those. All in all, it was a good class and I learned a lot from Ms. Bates.

This was a very difficult class. You have to write a lot of essays about subjects that you probably will not understand (at least our class didn't). And you have to write an 8 page research paper.
If you do your work, read alot, and study you will probably do fair. I did not like this class and I managed to get a C since she gives decent grades for any effort.

Great teacher. I just got lazy for the 8 o clock class. She makes it fun and interesting, and although she has very strong opinions about controversial issues like homosexuality, she will discuss but not PRESS it on you like other professors. Great Teacher. Take her.

This course by Ms. Bates started off fast with papers, but she winds down in the end. You get all kinds of chances to make points in the class and you have to read, she does give pop quizes but they are easy. She is one of the MOST organized teachers, which is good, Unlike Professor Miller, TRUST ME! She is very patient, but the research paper is 40% of your grade, its easy too!

THis class is only hard because you must stay on top of the required readings. She quizes frequently. The essays are difficult at times, and she grades pretty tough. However, she is big into teacher's pets, so if you suck up to her, you'll probably get a better grade than you deserve. The majority of your grade comes from a research paper which you work on throughout the entire semester. She cancels class often for you to work on your paper and you don't even meet for class the last two weeks of the semester.

I loved this class. Mrs. Bates is so easy, and she doesn't excpet anything great. Just try and show improvment, and you're in. I enjoyed her class everyday. In class discussion and just random talks is what class consisted of everyday. Attendance is mandatory, she takes attendance everyday. Notes are very few. She makes you keep a notebook, which you should print off everything she sends you via e-mail, I recommend buying one of those spirals that have the 8X10 folder thingys in the front. There's a research paper to write throughout the semester, I recommend writing it on feminism or something like that. She eats up that kind of stuff. There are about 4-5 in class essays which suck, but she gives you all the info. before you write it in class, so I just typed an essay and re-wrote it in pen in class. The final was the most simple thing EVER! It was the mid-term (which she gives you everything on that too) and we took it 2 weeks before finals week, and never went to class again.

This class is pretty easy. My only beef is that she is very opinionated. Especially during the Poetry section. An analysis of a poem is only correct if it connects to her analysis. She isn't a hard grader, though she might say she is. Make sure of MLA style when writing!!!!

I really enjoyed Bates' class. She is a very understanding and nice instructor. She gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit and you get to miss a lot of class towards the end of the semester because she cancels because of portfolio meetings with you one on one. It is mandantory to attend her class and I would recommend going to each one because she ALWAYS let us out early. The only annoying part of the class is the amount of writing. You have a lot of inclass essays to write and a couple of out of class essays that require a lot of research, but she helps you out tremendously with it and doesn't leave it just to you... you will be well prepared for portfolio scoring because of her. I would also recommend that you do your journal exercises and study for the writing terms tests because they are easy ways to bring up your grade and give you a better grade for the semester. I would totally recommend taking her...she actually cares about each of her students and has a great attitude about teaching.

Mrs. Bates tries to act like she does all of her students these HUGE favors by grading easily, when in reality, she really doesn't know what she's doing. She picks her favorites (ALWAYS male) and if you happen to not be one of them, even if you're good at English, watch out. I never made anything less than a 93 on ANYTHING, but my grade at the midterm was a 90?! She's not as bad as she makes herself out to be, but she's definitely a pistol. I wouldn't take her again, but I'm sure there are worse teachers out there.

Ms. Bates' excels utilizing carefully chosen instructional methods and develops novice students who truly wish to learn and retain valuable undergraduate grammar and composition tools for later life graduate studies. Ms. Bates provides students with a lower-to-higher building block syllabus and a well organized english program to stretch your learning skills and imagination. Don't gripe; do what she says and you will live the rhetorical triangle. Your training and eduation will precede you! lporch

Ms. Bates is the best English professor I have had since I have been here at Western. Although it may look like she is going to be hard at the beginning, hang it there it will get a lot easier, I promise. You do have several papers due, but she is a very easy grader. I received an A on every paper without really trying. She will also let you out of class early most every session. The main portion of the course is your research paper. The rest of the time, you spend reading Hamlet and taking quizes over it. After this, we spent the last 3 weeks of class watching several versions of the movie. Take her for this class. You won't be disappointed.

I loved Ms. Bates' class. She was a wonderful teacher and very passionate about her job. The first day of class she gives this awful syllabus, but it's actually the hardest thing in the class. Her work is very easy and she is very lenient. If you take her in the evening, most of the time she doesn't like to stay.

Mrs. Bates is WONDERFUL! She is very personalbe and attempts to get to know each student! She is very funny and laid back in her class. She is strict about her deadlines, however if she sees that the class over all is suffering she will offer a different assignment or work with you on it. She is so friendly and always makes you laugh. I can not say enough good things about her.

Bates is the one to take for ENG 100 and 200, we never went to class, she cancelled class EVERY Friday, and for like 2 weeks during the semester because she went to Vagas, which she goes every semester!! We had to write the minimum of papers to turn into the department to pass 100, but overall she was great!! The easiest class I have ever taken!!

She is an awesome teacher. She is willing to help you with anything and the assignments aren't that bad. You have to do several things over Hamlet, but she helps you understand them and lets you watch 2 or 3 versions of the play. There is a research paper due at the end of the semester, but she gives you a little time to work on it in class and grades the different steps as you go.

This class was a class that was not that time consuming. Although there were a few papers that need to be reasearched the papers are not very lengthy. She LOVES her students and is never afraid of pionting you out in class if you are sleeping or doing other things that one should NOT do during class. Being on time and being present for class is a requirement yet she is very excepting and willing to adjust if a problem occurs. She often lets the class out early because she hates to be hot and she often calls off class for a 'research day' or 'reading day.' I HIGHLY reccommend this teacher to you!

Ms. Bates may seem like she is goin to make u do all kinds of stuff in her class, but she is actually really laid back. In this class, u take a few Hamlet quizzes and then one quizz over ethos, pathos, and logos (the rheticoral triangle). The real work is on the research paper. The research paper is ur final and she gives u plenty of time to complete it. She loves to send messages through email, so check ur email at least 2x a day, especially before u go to bed. If she gets hot in the class, she lets u go early. IN the beginning, her syllabus may look scary but just hang in there...she doesn't always go by the syllabus religiously. I had her class in the summer. I don't know how she is in the regular semesters. I suggest taking this class as a summer class. U meet twice a week maybe a couple of hrs those days. Oh YEAH! She does like those "suck ups"! It's like being in high school again where the teacher's pet is favored.

Ms. Bates is great. Although you write a lot in her class, she is always willing to help you with your papers. She is very honest with you but friendly as well. You a few quizzes but nothing hard (as long as you look over the material.) You only have to read short stories and nothing really long. This class is fairly easy and I recommend taking her for a teacher.

I love this lady! She's open and honest and friendly. She wants everyone to have an A. She's extremely positive and we get lots of days off. Her class is undemanding and I love it. Of course it's English and you have to write but that's a given. If you want a good teacher, though, Mrs. Bates is an excellent choice. She even reads my poems and papers that are for extra curricular activities and gives me honest, constructive criticism. She's an English Goddess! Take her class.

Ms. Bates is an easy teacher to have if you are good at writing and do not make a lot of spelling mistakes. She really gets mad if you don't organize your writing or misspell a lot of words, and doesn't really teach you how to do otherwise. I am a good writer and speller so this course was a cake walk for me, but some of the people in our class are not and she isn't very accepting of that. You only have to read these short essays, no long books, but again you write quite a few papers. She does tell you when there will be an in-class writing even though she isn't supposed to and lets you bring in an outline. She also likes suck-ups, so if you are good at that then you will do well in her class, as long as you can also write fairly well.
