I want to write a lot but I don't feel that I should put more into my evaluation of the class than the department put into the actual class. Dr. W, I am sorry for you loss and wish you the best in retirement. It is a shame that the math department at WKU could not do something to help this class while Dr. W was dealing with her family issues. I can legitimately say that I have learned nothing from the class that will apply to my future in teaching. If I would have run my classroom like this was run, I would have been fired.

This class would've been easier with a different professor. Dr. Weidemann is was sort of scatterbrained when teaching our class. The material wasn't as bad, it was getting used to the proofs and never knowing how Dr. Weidemann wanted them stated that was the difficult part.

This was a graduate, online course, so you expect a higher level of independent study; however, independent should not mean NO PROFFESOR COMMUNICATION. I personally emailed the prof 4 times with not a single response. Out of the 14 assigned sections, as a class we received only 4 back with only two of the 4 having markups.
In short, she was very unorganized, apathetic toward any concept of a professor deadline, and, she was dishonest about returning papers to the class. We were told on three occasions to expect scanned, corrected papers. We NEVER received any papers!!!

The organization of this course was horrible. Dr. Weidemann didn't return emails. At the end of a seven week course, only week one assignments has been graded, so we had no clue what our average was. We got the final review at 11:30pm on a Tuesday. Finals were Thursday and Friday. I had one day to review for the comprehensive exam with no feedback on how my assignments had been completed. I am extremely unhappy with this course (and, no I still don't know my average). If I taught like this, I would have no job!

I asked this lady once if we had done any problems like the one that was on the test and she replayed "Well I guess not but you are suppose to think" then she spent twenty minutes trying to prove that the problem was simple. This lady cost me two extra semesters because I received a 75% in the class. Which anyone taking this class should know that you need a 76% to pass. I would avoid take any class with this woman. I promise you will regret it.

This woman is a disaster. You can ask her questions all day and still never get a real answer. She's not personable, she doesn't care if you understand the material, and she's just rude! I didn't take the final because there was no way for me to get the C required to pass, so I'm going to have to retake it. Take someone who actually wants their students to do well!

This is a hard class, but Ms. Weidemann is a faily good teacher. Be ware the fact that 85% of your final grade comes from the three exams and the final. So, if you are no good at taking tests you do not need to try her class. The tests are very difficult, and you have to be able to remember all of the formulas for the geometry you have to do. I feel that making the emphasis on memorizing formulas instead of the ability to take a formula and figure out a problem is emphasizing the wrong area. I have a terrible memory, and when taking tests I would completely mix up the formulas for surface area, area, volume etc for all of the shapes that she wanted you to do. Personally, I am a junior and have never gotten a D in a class, so that speaks of the difficulty of this class. If you are not good at test taking and memorization do not take this class. If you are good at both of those things that you'll be fine.

Dr. Weidemann is a very egotistical lady who believes that her years at Western means that she is a good teacher. She does not understand how to get off of the math cloud that she lives on and break the material down so us normal people can understand it. Just because you are a good mathematician, DOES NOT mean you are a good math teacher. For a class where the PROFESSOR is teaching teachers how to teach mathematics, she certainly missed the mark. If you have any other option WHATSOEVER, take someone else for this course!

I really enjoyed this class, much better that 211. We missed several classes due to illness, etc. but overall pretty good. She also gives hints as to what is going to be on the test plus a review sheet.

I hated this class and would not take her. Her notes have nothing to do with the material on the tests. The tests are very hard! She is not a good teacher and I did not learn anything that related this to elementary education. DO NOT TAKE HER!

Math 211 and 212 are already pretty difficult. Professor Weidemann is really nice, but the content is really hard and I don't think she understands how to teach it to us in a way to teach elementary students. She was just teaching us the stuff all over again like we were taking geometry all over again. She did very few things that actually related to how to teach to kids. The worst part of the class was the online projects. You have to work on the computer programs that are only in the Math lab at Thompson Complex and they are extremely hard. Every single person in the section I was in failed it entirely, because, she claimed, that they had come out with a new version that she didn't know how to use herself, since the last time she taught the course, three years ago. If you can really grasp math and understand concepts, the class is OK, but you won't learn many ways to teach kids anything.

Dr. Weidemann is nice, and the material is easy to understand; however, her tests are hard!! She requires many definitions on her tests such as: "What is the definition of division?" and "Why can't the denominator be 0 in a fraction?" She seeks a specific answer. She expects all of your answers on a test to be as if you were teaching an elementary student how to do something (which makes sense... but it is tough to do!!) I just think the concepts in Math 211 are pretty tough...

I would definatly suggest taking her for this class. She doesnt take up the homework, but if you do it, it will help you a whole lot on the test. I rather get a C in her class than take another teacher who is awful and get a B. She will help you as much as she can and at the end of the semester will give assignment that will boost your grade. Dont take anyone else but her!

She explains things very well. Just make sure to show up and take notes. Though she doesn't collect the homework its definately a good idea to do it so you are prepared for the tests.

Ms. Weideman is an awesome teacher. She explains things very well and is always willing to help you. As long as you don't miss class and keep up with your homework you will do fine in this class.

This lady is insane... once during class she thought there was an earthquake and made us get under our desks. She also hums all the time and it is annoying. Also another dumb thing she did was put the boys on one side of the class and the girls on the other. Like hello -- it's not elementary school. However, she is an OK teacher - JUST STRANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be prepared.
Updated 02/05/2003:
