Do not take this professor. He rants throughtout his lecture and is really boring. He is a nice guy outside of the class but inside the class it's a different story. His study guides do not help with the exams.

Dr. Shank did pretty well keeping the class interesting. He rambles sometimes about articles and stuff, but overall does a good job. He does a lot of demonstrations in class and we did interesting labs on test days. He also offers a lot of extra credit for submitting science articles or from making a model of a mole. If you do really well on all the tests, you don't have to take the final. I would highly recommend him.

Lowell Shank by far is the best chemistry instructor I have ever had! He keeps your attention through demostration and is very precise in his lectures. Given if you come ot class and do the homework, then you will be very sucessful in this class. The homework isn't required, but I know no one who has gotten a good grade and didn't do the homework. I f you really aren't a chemistry person then this class is for you. If you don't like chemistry then at least show up to class for the demostrations!!! Dr. Shank is freakin awsome!

Chemistry is hard to teach and very boring if you're not just totally into it. Dr. Shank tries to make it interesting with neat facts and world news. But it doesn't work. Dr. Shank spends waaay too much time "reading" from the book. Literally, he reads from the book. He doesn't put it into his own words. Many opportunities to succeed but extremely boring...

The class I took was also a designated lab so I got that out of the way also. Mr. Shank does experiments that really got my attention. Mostly take notes in the textbook b/c that's mostly what he goes by. Usually made B's on his tests! I liked this class.

Professor Shank is a nice guy and if you show an effort, he's willing to give you a break. He does tend to get boring, but he knows chemistry. If you ask a question, he will make sure you understand the answer. He lectures straight from the book, so just take a highlighter to class. Extra credit is available for newspaper articles and if you make a mole.

he gives you a test every other week over 3 chapters. he is an okay teacher but rambles on about things that are not relevant to the class and reads newspaper articles of the overhead all class period. he does give a great curve though. besides every 10 points a letter grade changes, he gives you every 15 points. so an 87 will give you an A in the class.

I really enjoyed Dr. Shank's class! He makes the class fun because he incorporates interesting labs. You can also make a "mole" for extra points, and that is pretty fun. The tests are not easy, I usually studied for a few hours and made a B or so. Take Dr. Shank, be optimistic about it and u'll enjoy his class. Just make sure you attend class and try to do well and he will appreciate that.

Buy the book and highlight everything, Dr. Shank goes pretty much in the order of the book. This course if very easy if you go to class, especially if you've had any chemistry before. If you have an A or B in the class, you don't have to take the final.

I hated this class, but I hate Chemistry, so that shouldn't be a surprise. His lectures are boring, boring, boring! If you read the book, Don't even bother going to class! Just get the questions that he assigns for students who failed the previous test and study from those and you'll be fine! do the extra credit, it really helps.

I think Dr. Shank tries to make the course interesting, but it is very difficult to stay attentive. As a biterm class, the sessions are 3 hours long and very boring. His humor is dry, but tries to help you. Everything comes from the text, so there is no need to take notes if you read the book. Overall, the course would not be that bad if Prof. Shank were not so incredibly boring.

Dr. Shank is an alright prorfessor. He reads everything directly out of the book so it's easy to study; however, there is a ton of information to know for the exams but there are only 24 questions per exam. You have an exam every other week (there are a total of 7 exams). The extra credit is easy to get. If you carry a B average or above, then you are exempt from the final. His experiments though are really neat and he normally does 2 or 3 a class period. If you don't like lecture classes though, then don't take him. Oh and there is NO math involved in this class.

I didn't like this course too much, but I don't like science either. He is an okay teacher and is fair. Basically he just goes through the book and talks about the stuff that students might find interesting throwing in some weird demonstrations and stuff. There are like 5 tests that are multiple choice, but i found them kinda hard. I struggled to get an A in this class. Bascially the tests come from the book and you need to do a lot of studying on your own. The nice thing about this class is that he has a lowered grading scale, an A is 88 and up and so on. Also if you get an A or B in the class, you are exempt from the final. The extra credit is highly recommended because it is worth a lot.

Really easy course! There are seven (!) exams throughout the semester, so if you don't do so good on one you've got plenty of time to make up the difference. Not only that, but the exams consist of only 24 multiple choice questions and a lab! He only gives 15-20 minutes to complete each exam (the rest of the class is for the lab), but that's enough time... if you pay attention in class, take notes, and study a little beforehand the exams are a breeze.
Also, Dr. Shank offers plenty of extra credit. You can make a stuffed mole (people get pretty creative with these) or bring in a relevant article from newspaper or magazine. In addition, if you do poorly on an exam, you can do the questions from the book for the next exam and turn it in for credit on that exam.
To top it all off, Dr. Shank is very personable and helps students out. Perhaps the best part of the class--he also likes to perform neat demonstrations of all kinds of different things (I think he burned or blew something up something everyday for the first half of the semester!)... it's a very interesting class, and Dr. Shank is a great professor to take.

Dr. Shank is an okay teacher. He will relate to you if you relate to him. His grading scale is a little different. What would be a C on a normal scale is a B on his scale, which makes getting a good grade a little easier for those who are maybe not so strong in Chemistry. His test are about 25 multiple choice and if you go to class and at least listen, you can do decent on the test and in the class.

I learned nothing in this class. He is very boring. I could count atleast 5 people asleep at any time during class. Plus, every Friday we had class we had a test. Yea, the experiments were neat, but he couldn't explain them to us. Most of the time he didn't even complete his sentences.

He is a good teacher. He lectures most of class but he deviates from the lecture to have demonstrations or other attention getters. It is very intresting and will stimulate some intrest in chemistry.
