She comes off as having a chip on her shoulder and this makes her a difficult professor to feel comfortable talking to. For me being able to comfortably talk to a professor is crucial. She also just constantly gives the bare minimum and does not really cover things well enough for you to know if you need to ask questions. The readings are annoying because it is hard to really pick them apart at times the way you need to for the writings she assigns with them.

This class should be an easy A. Yeah yeah I got a C because I quit trying and stopped doing the work. If you do the quizes and discussion board you'll do fine. However if you don't have much self discipline then don't take an online course! It is way to easy to blow off a week of lectures and then next thing you know it's finals week and you're missing half your points because you forgot about the class. I really liked Dr. Krull. I like how she set up the course as well. Again, it's an easy A, IF you sit down and do the work (and the work isn't hard either)

I am a real student writing this..unlike the other reviews which are written by amy herself. You can tell the others are fake cause she wants you too refer to her as Dr. in class and in her reviews they are all Dr.Krull this and Dr.Krull that....noone says Dr. when they are talking about a soc. teacher, give me a break you not important. Wow your a dr. of sociology, that must have been really hard to get,you mastered common sense?cause thats all sociology is..common sense. Amy wants to believe Soc 100 is much more than that, or atleast she grades like it. I hate you amy krull..i hate you.

We got into a discussion about god knows what and she got mad for some reason, even though I was being perfectly polite. I guess she thought I was questioning her authority, because I actually had an opinion on text book sales. So for the rest of the semester she didn't like me, actually held a grudge. I was going to drop but I figured she couldn't mess with my grade if I did good on tests...right? Well... She makes you write purely opinion papers that should be an easy A...but if she doesn't like you for some unknown reason you will get a bad score on them...i got a 28,40,45,52 on a pure opinion papers...how is that? how can you get a 28 out of 100 on a paper with no right or wrong? I had proper gramer/spelling, etc too so that wasnt the reason. Do Not take her! worst mistake of my college career, she ruined my GPA by giving me an F... when i asked her about these horrible grades on my papers she said she doesn't grade them and blames them on a student teacher? what teacher doesnt have the final say on a student's grade? All in all please dont take her, and tell your friends not to take her. This is not just one mad student. Its a student that has totally been bullied by a teacher for no reason at all and its me against the world when i went to the soc. dept and complained. save yourself and just sign up for someone else

Are you serious with this teacher? Look at the little green face reviews on here and you can tell they were written by her. Because she is the most smart ass teacher ever!! I guess she is bored teaching a common sense class like this so she spends her time ripping a student apart and then giving her fake smile trying justify it. She has a attendence policy, that way you listen to her read out of the book/slides...because we can't read. If you wanna take a class that should be easy....but, is totally overkill on a subject that is pretty much common sense. DONT TAKE HER!! I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET! She acts like she watns to help you but if you go ask for it she acts like you are wasting her time! the nerve. Make sure to buy the book...SHE WROTE it! lol...pointless

Dr. Krull has a great structure to her classes. There were a lot of insightful movies and videos that related to the class. The notes were not overkill and easy to keep up with. There were quizzes on Blackboard usually once a week and some worked out to be extra credit. There are 9 papers and you only have to write 4, which are easy 2 pages double spaced and almost purely opinion over material read after you take a quiz over it. She really enjoyed teaching this class and did a great job on her first time teaching it!

Although, she kinda makes sociology harder than it needs to be. Her tests are kinda tricky. She does give a couple of points of extra credit though. She teaches huge, intro classes so don't expect her to know your name or face unless you talk all the freakin time like these two buttclowns in my class....

I ended up taking this course again with a different teacher and made a very high "A". She seriously tries to trick you on her tests. Also, I don't agree with handing in a paper on the day of the test. I like to study for the test instead of writing some dumb paper. These papers were graded very harshly as well. She is very nice, but I would not take her again.

Amy Krull is a great Sociology professor. While there was some reading required, never too much than can be expected. The structure of the class was nice in the way you had 6 papers due over the course and only 2 were mandatory and one extra could be completed for extra credit (papers were about 3-5 pages double spaced...) She gave EXCELLENT notes from powerpoint and they were very helpful. Not a hard class, but it did require some studying of the notes and over the readings, most of which were actually interesting. I already signed up for another class with her.

Dr. Krull is a snake in congnito. She presents with this very endearing, psuedo-caring front but when faced with a student who is having difficulty with the material or with an assignment in particular she belittles you to your face, smiling all the while.
If you don't mind a fight and are comfortable with a professor making you feel like an idiot, take this class... if you dare. I also recommend picking up drinking or some other possibly disastrous vice to help you cope. Scotch..vodka...or a nice stiff martini will help numb the bite of the Krull... man I hope she reads these....cheers all!

Dr. Krull is an excellent teacher! I would deffinitly take another class with her if I could. She's got a lot of humor to her and makes the class so much fun. The tests are 50 questions and they are all multiple choice. You have a chance to do one extra credit if you'd like and she randomly takes attendance and gives you an extra point for each time you're there. Krull made me seriously consider sociology as a major because it was so fun and interesting. She is the best professor I've had so far!

Ms. Krull is one of those profs that does not seem to understand that her students sometimes do not understand what she is teaching. She expects you to know what she is talking about at all times. Dr. Krull will tell you that you can come and talk to her about anything that is bothering you about the class but when you do she tears you apart and really makes things worse. I know that I gave the class more effort than I did for all my others combined and I still ended up not knowing enough except to get a D!!! I was grateful for that, let me tell ya.

Dr. Krull was a good professor. I took her night class once a week, and she rarely let us out more than 15 to 30 minutes early. Her lectures were fairly interesting. Overall, I think she was fair in her policies.
Pros: The tests were all multiple choice with a scantron provided by Dr. Krull. She gave good notes on PowerPoint. If you only studied the vocabulary at the end of each chapter of the textbook, I’m fairly certain you could make a passing grade on each test. If you studied your notes as well, you can do even better. The final was not cumulative. She offered extra credit. There wasn’t a lot of homework.
Cons: If you happen to miss a class, she will not give you the notes for the class; you must get them from a fellow student. You have to buy two textbooks. One is co-authored by Dr. Krull and has worksheets in it. She has you write a response (not all that hard to do) to one of the worksheets, tear it out, and turn it in before each test, making it hard/impossible to resell the book. I don’t think she would allow any makeup work or accept assignments late.
The work consisted of: four tests, four written responses from the workbook, and three quizzes on articles from the workbook. In addition, she offered up to ten points extra credit if you wrote responses to the three articles you read throughout the semester. Do these!!…especially if you are struggling. It can make a difference. Several of the cons can be taken care of just by attending class and taking notes. You’re paying for the class, so go! I would recommend taking this class.

Dr. Krull is AWESOME! She can be a bit too bubbly or come off as crass at times when you try to talk to her but for the most part she is a great professor who doesn't try to throw curveballs at her students. All of her notes are on a PowerPoint that she goes through and explains and offers GREAT examples to reinforce the material. All you need to do in taking good notes it to get the tags from the PowerPoint and write down any additional information she had under that tag line and you'll ace the tests. I feel as if I learned a lot in this class because Dr. Krull took the time to be sure to take her time in explaining the information and she also told students when assignments were getting close to their due dates. While the above tells you that attendance isn't required you should still come everyday because she uses attendance to bump you up to a higher grade if your borderline and she takes exam information from notes and the book so you can't just read the book and expect to pass.
The main criticism I had in terms of grades is you can only miss 26 POINTS before you get a B but really it's 36 because you can write two papers on articles you discuss in class for up to ten extra credit points (DO THIS IT'S EASY!). The rest of the grade breakdown is four 50 questions tests worth 50 points each, four papers that are worth five points a piece (but really ten since she multiplies the paper grades by two at the end), and three quizzes worth five points a piece over articles in the Basics & Applications book she helped write (which are a cakewalk if you read the article). While the above sounds like a lot it's really not and if you have any common sense and attend class getting below a B is inexcusable. I'd recommend Dr. Krull 100% to any person seeking credit for their major or general ed in this course!
MAJOR TIP: When studying for tests memorize the vocabulary from the Schaefer book, read the specific articles she assigns from the Basics & Applications textbook, and look over your notes. I hardly read any of the Schaefer book at all and killed the exams.

She makes you buy a book then rip pages out so you cant sell it back. Oh yeah, she wrote the book, its useless except to rip the pages out and turn them in with the assignment. She won't grade the paper if the page is not "ripped" out and turned in. She wont except the paper to grade even if the paper is copied, she wants the profit she makes on a brand new book. Money Hungary Bitch if you ask me. You can tell in her lectures too. Boring Rambling Common sense shit. Fake.

Dr. Krull and this class were both absolutely fantastic! I learned more throughout the duration of this course than in most of the classes I have taken, despite the fact that sociology is a far cry from my major. Every theory is explained with examples from life that are easy to remember. She does an excellent job at making the course material relevant to the student. Her point system allows you to make a good grade as long as you put forth the effort, regardless of your strengths. For instance, if tests are your weak spot, you can make Cs on the tests and compensate through quiz points and essays. Only three short essays, 2 pages each, are required. I highly recommend her.
