Where do i start...hmmm well if you've read any of the other reviews of Dr.Crouther then you know that she goes over the syllabus all year long...god forbid you loose the damn thing. I spent most of my time in this class sitting there pondering many of the questions about life in general, while Dr.Crouther rambled on about an analogy to the iraq war. A majority of this class is sitting in circles and discussing absolutely nothing in what she calls "constructive criticism groups". Most of the class period you too will find yourself pondering why in the world you signed up for her class. I took AP english my senior year of high school thinking that it would help me prep for college english.....i could of spent my time doing something else. This class felt like freshmen english for high school.
Dr. Crouther also feels the need to have you move your desk's into a circle....but heres the thing about that....sometimes youll walk into the room and the desk's will already be arranged into a circle. She will then tell everyone to move their desk's to rows/ columns. Then not 5 minutes later request that we go back to the circle.....Each day class felt so repetative. I felt as though i was caught in groundhog day but it was just this english class.
Dr. Crouther also does not "hand out A's" so in other words if youre shooting for that coveted Magna Cum Laude status dont take her class. On just about every paper i have written i have either received between an 83-89...only one time this year did i get 1 of the 3 A papers shes given out by getting a 91. The test's are essay based, and you spend most of the previous days in class going over what the essay is going to be and giving her sample topics. She will then become the "nazi of paper grading". Im not that great of a writer but I find my writing to be at a high level. She will go through and nit pick every last detail. So hello 80-89 paper!
*heres a keeper for ya* The syllabus says buy the books, I say on the other hand save that 50 dollars and do something productive with it like burn it or hand it to someone passing by, hell thats a better idea then buying the course materials. You will NEVER need the book for this class.....EVER. She'll say you do but you wont. I found myself the majority of the semester just cracking jokes or making odd ball comments. Then at times i would get serious and she would think the world of me. Just let it be known that if youre looking for getting a B in english your first semester then have at it with that slightly above average mentality. Obviously reaching for the stars is not your perogative, maybe like a low flying cesna or something.
