This was a very enjoyable course and lesson material is relevant to our everyday lives. Dr. Grimm provided very positive feedback from lesson assignments and was helpful with any questions that I had. This was a great course!

Dr.Grimm's class is a tough class to get the hang of. He will put an outline on the board and then lecture. If you copy the outline off the board and follow along in class you should do fine. Reading the textbook will help out A LOT! Before each test he will give out a study that pretty much will cover all the material on the exam. If you show up to class and read the material, there shouldnt be a reason you dont receive at least a C or higher in the class.

At first I was a little worried about this class. Professor Grimm may seem like a strange man at first but I grew to really like him. He writes all the notes on the board so you can just copy them down. You do need the textbook but he wrote it and it is only about $20!!! Attendance isn't required but after you miss 8 classes he starts taking points away. He does give extra points when class attendance is low. The tests are all multiple choice, true/false, and essays. He does give you a study guide which does help and gives the exact essay questions so you can prepare for them. The class can get a little boring but it was a pretty easy class. Also you have to do 8 extra essays for each test but they aren't due until after the test. Then he adds the grade you received on these to the test which ALWAYS increased my test grade so do them because they help!

Guys listen I took this class after getting on this website (profeval) and seeing all happy faces and thinking that this class would be great. However this was the worst class that I have ever had. This guy can not teach at all, and it is really clear that he doesnt care about his students. Take note that all the "happy faces" that you see on here are from like 8 years ago and the reviews that are from recent years are horrible. I think its because he is part time teaching now and just doesnt care. I usually make A's and deservered an A in this class. I usually never write reviews, but I just wanted to save you all from the worst mistake you'll make at western! This class is the biggest waste of time, you will not learn anything..or at least I didnt.

Mr. Grimm did not understand that this is just a general education class. He taught it like it was a Graduate Course. I reccomend that anyone looking for a sociology100 course should TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFFESSOR! He only gave three tests and only three writing assignments. These 6 assignments made up your grade. He had days where he would be nice but 99% of the time he didn't give a hoot what happened to his students. He has no consideration if you get sick or if someone dies in your family. He thinks there is NO reason to miss class. He also thinks it is not his job to HELP YOU understand the material, he just lectures you and that is it.

Dr. Grimm is a cute and fun loving old man. I must warn you though, if you do not like a lot of cussing from an individual, than do NOT take his class! Grimm is an older gentleman who does not take any crap from anyone and he will let you know how it is, no matter what the issue may be. He is very passionate about his work and he knows his stuff, but at the same time, he is very sweet and is very eager to work with you. Grimm is the type of man who does not like to do what he is told, so if his boss tells him to change this or to do that, he will do the exact opposite, which is where the extra credit comes in. On any random day, he will give the class bonus points, no questions asked, so GO TO CLASS!! With his notes, he makes an outline on the board and then fills in the blanks as he goes. His tests are easy if you read your notes and go through the text. I HIGHLY recommend Grimm!!! He is very sweet, sassy and extremely funny!

Everybody says to take this class because Dr. Grimm is funny. However, he is NOT! He is an idiot. He is highly offensive and has a very vulgar mouth. He makes extremely negative comments towards the university as a whole and nasty comments about his sexual relationship with his wife. I consider myself to be an excellent student, and I hate feeling smarter than the professor. I hated going to his class every week. You DO NOT have to read anything to pass the tests...I did not read a page and made an A on every exam. He claims he has changed the course because it used to be really easy?? I don't know. His test questions are ridiculous. He has like 80 question tests and questions are like "In your professor's opinion......." "Your professor agrees with the....".....THe entire course I learned NOTHING about sociology, and EVERYTHING about his opinion.
If you consider yourself at all smart, stay away from this idiot's class!!!!!

Someone posted a negative review of Dr. Grim for their Sociology 100 class and mentioned that he is vague and often vents to the class about things he doesn't agree with. This person is absolutely correct in their analysis.
Dr. Grimm is conducts his class in a non-professional manner, by espousing his own opinion way too much and venting to the class using profane and vulgar language.
While I do not doubt that Dr. Grimm is an expert in his field and my purpose is not to challenge his integrity in that matter, I do not think he suits the role of what I would call a teacher.

Dr Grimm is a great teacher. He gives a lot of notes but if you just take them and read over them before the test there is no way you shouldn't get an A. He gives 25 extra pts at the end of the semester and pretty much gives 45 extra pts on each test by requiring that you turn in 3 extremely simple activites on each test. He also gives random extra points on days it is raining/snowing and you come to class. He doesn't care to help you at all.

Dr. Grimm is a terrible teacher. He is extremely vague and unclear and makes absolutely no sense. Don't be fooled by his laid-back style...he is offensive and vents to his class about things he doesn't like most of the time. If you study your butt off and decipher the things he says, READ, you should do OK. But this was a torturous class.

This class was slightly difficult. Professor Grimm knows so much about Sociology that sometimes it was confusing. Yet, he wants you to do good and he trys to explain everything very well. He also talks about sex and drugs a lot during class, but it is funny. He requires you to come to class and drops your grade if you don't. But, it is to your advantage that you go because he gives a lot of extra credit. You have to study for his tests!

One of the best teachers ive ever had. Our class size was incredibly small, with just 7 people. His lectures are some of the most easy to get involved and immerse your mind in, plus everything he talks about is very relevant to today. He gives alot of extra credit, and is VERY willing to work with students to make sure you get the best grade possible, also very witty and funny!! For soc majors, highly recommended!

Dr. Grimm is a sincere professor who want to see the students to be successful. He got a sense of humor and like to express his own opinion about everything and I think he's a wonderful teacher. He gave us so much opportunity to get extra credit and I did my papers and got A on my tests all way through in semester. BEST to read and be prepare for class. Be nice to HIM, he would be willingly to work with you. He's a enjoyable teacher. I would rate him the TOP of all other teachers I had. He made the course more interesting and more applicable to us.

Dr. Grimm is a wonderful professor! He's very funny; he will cuss and speak of drinking and sex, but nothing offensive. He knows a lot and you will definately learn something beneficial. There are 3 exams and the third is considered the final, but it's not cumulative. Studying is required, but if you pay attention in class and take good notes you probably won't have to read the book very much. He does allow you to "contract questions" which is where the class writes questions for the exam. There are several questions on the test, which allows you to miss a few without it killing your grade. I bombed the first test, but did well on the last two and pulled an A for the semester. He does take attendance everyday, but he allows like 5 absences before he starts deducting from your grade. I never wanted to miss because I was afraid I'd miss a good story!! Overall, I would definately recommend taking this class.

Dr. Grimm is downright hilarious. Although he can be offensive if you're not into crude humor. If you're more laid back and can take a joke, then he's definetely the one for you. There wasn't a five second time span where he didn't mention sex, beer, or how he wanted to execute big business executives followed by graphic detail of how he wanted to do it. Notes are slightly out of hand, due to him just being all over the place, but the tests are fairly easy and there's opportunity for very easy extra credit. You can miss five days, but I wouldn't skip a day of class, I'd hate to miss anything he had to say.

Dr. Grimm is a very nice man. The class passes by really quick, and he's so interesting. He often stops lecturing to tell stories, which is random, but it's funny. He gives AMPLE amount of time to turn things in (if you forget something, he says "oh just bring it whenever"), the quizzes are take-home, and on the tests, you can miss 20 or so and still have a B. He offers a lot of extra credit and "contract questions". (questions that he promises will be on the test) Attendance isn't required, but you get 30 bonus points for going. Grimm knows his stuff, and it's not a real difficult class..though you do take a lot of notes. I recommend him!

This class is pretty easy if you study and do your website reports. I know I half assed my website reports and I still got an A everytime! The test are a coin toss, if you don't study enough you may do badly but then again you may not if you go to class because some of the stuff he talks about you can remember from his lectures. He goes off subject a lot- tells you what he thinks is wrong with everything- especially that he hates that other professors let their classes out too early, you'll hear that alot! He's getting ready to retire, he has an ok sense of humor, like he tries to be funny. He might scare you by using big words on the first day and you'll think he's gonna be hard, but don't let him fool you- bet he doesn't even know the meaning of the words anyways. But I enjoyed his class, you get the chance to express your opinion.

This class was very easy. If you come to class and write down what he says and skim the readings right before the test you will make an A easily. You have to do six website reports worth 50 pts each but he gives you websites to start out with so the work is minimal. I dont recommend this class even thought it was an easy A because Dr. Grimm is extremely offense and often cusses in class. He frequently pauses in his lecture to go on personal rants about nothing related to the class. If you can stand the personal problems then take the class- it will boost your gpa.

Dr. Grimm writes his outlines on the board for each and every class. It is sometimes hard to read his handwriting, and he stands in front of what he has wrote! Everyday he went off on little fits either talking about how stupid people were, how much he wanted a drink, or how much he liked sex. Not my cup of tea. James is a great teacher. On his tests, there are 50 questions and they are mc and t/f. You have to answer two critical thinking questions for each test. You have the choice of those and you do them whenever you are available. Just turn them in with your test. I say attendance is mandatory, because he gives you a point a day for coming, which I think is nice, because some teachers don't care if you come to class or not. He writes notes on the board. Then goes over them. When he repeats stuff, he says it differently, so try to get it the first time. That was the only hard thing, I think was just keeping up with what he says. And also there is something that you have to turn. It is getting information out of magazines and writing a paragraph. You have to do four. But he is overall, affective. I recommend him highly. As with any class, just study the material and you will do fine.

Dr. Grimm is a really nice guy. He puts an outline on the board everyday, so he's fairly easy to follow. You have to do these internet assignments and 1 written assignment that are a pain and take a lot of time. You have 4 tests that aren't too hard, but you MUST study. If you're looking for an easy class take someone else, but if you do take the course it's interesting and it's not that bad.
